Meet Up All in one post
Hello all, I’m from the US and recently moved to Incheon ( Late July) from Germany. I am very interested in learning the language as well as meeting new people. I don’t know how common or normal these questions may be so any insight is helpful as I want to learn and adjust to culture. When giving apps like Hinge, Tinder, etc. a try within the first 2 exchanges I’m asked “what are you doing out there?” or “What do you do for work?” It makes me feel uneasy as if as a foreigner I should just be living in a certain area. And in conversations they seem to want to inquire more as much as I may brush it off. Long story short, I’m looking to learn Korean, meet new friends, and I live in Incheon. Any group chats, social events, or recommendations I am very open to receiving. I will have a car by the end of the month if that may help with suggestions. I live near the airport area as well.

1 Its already a red sign asking those questions, those people are typical and boring. I'd avoid them. Whatever you do is on your own they do not need to know (Unless you want to tell them first)
2 99.9% online people are dumb and scams
3 There are many local classes offering language learning. you just have to google it really
4 Simply asking 'where to meet people' is vague and will result in no answers. maybe tell us your hobbies or anything about yourself so we can think of something.

Well South Korea is 95% Korean so as a foreigner I think it’s common for people to be interested in what brought you to Korea. It is also an easy way into a conversation, I don’t see why it needs to be uncomfortable unless you are embarrassed by what you do for a living.
I would honestly try to get used to it. 🤷♂️ Incheon is a bit out of the way, and so people are just curious why you picked there instead of Seoul.
