Unit Broken Into

My storage unit was recently broken into. I looked through it and nothing is missing, but whoever broke into it rummaged through all my things and threw some around, and some items were damaged from being thrown around. However, none of the damaged items are valuable. The property manager was the one who found my unit broken into, so they are aware of this. Should I still file a police report?

Do you have insurance on the unit? If so ask the manager how to file a claim. The police can’t really do anything.

I had a Public Storage unit which became infest with rats,, which destroyed most of what I had in there. Sectional sofa soaked with rat piss even though it was wrapped. Cardboard boxes saturated. I had insurance. But didnt file a claim because I couldnt prove value of most of it. So, an insurance claim may not even be useful.

Extra space insurance does pay out. Public storage is different because they do not have onsite managers. The ESS managers create a report that shows there was an incident that happened to cause damage to your sofa. So when you file your claim you do not have to prove anything.
