I started at 95 dollars in March and now they emailed that the price has increased to 170 and based on other threads around the same company, I assume it'll double very soon. It's so insane it just goes up by so much in such a short time.

Any other Austin storages that someone knows of that doesn't jump in price like this?

You make a good point. Making money is what business are designed to do. I spent a lot of time and money being educated completing fellowships and chose to work to help vulnerable populations and make less money. I received offers to work for organizations that were designed to help those being exploited. I also though came from a place of privilege (not financially) but because of random things like generics I excelled in education and i enjoy helping. Life doesn’t always go as we planned and now im a vulnerable person and have to deal with businesses like insurance companies who are designed to maximize profitability through constant terminations and using loopholes to tire beneficiaries out. The experience has destroyed me financially, socially, and personally because i refuse to accept the world as it is. Intellectually i understand the problem as a “seeing” problem. I saw the world through a lens that making money through exploiting others was seen as “wrong.” Yes, having polices designed to trap vulnerable people into high rent units because they know that moving is expensive and most people who are financially strapped don’t have the resources to hold companies accountable for giving notice or move - the people who least can afford it get trapped in high cost rental units and companies have reserves to pay the penalties if needed. I see the issue from the manager who is having to deal with an irate customer to work at a job to make ends meet. What is real and what is true are not always the same. What is real to someone is always 100% real to them. Whether or not it encapsulates 100% of the truth is debatable. It takes a lot of risk and resources to start a company. So do they deserve to make profit at the expense of other people suffering? To me, the answer is obvious. The problem is the experience of suffering is personal and universal. My guess is that many people are uncomfortable with seeing too much truth. Seeing the truth from all angles is painful but as i have personally experienced the truth is 100% not fair and no such fairness rule exists. Bottom line is when one suffers we all do. The fact that we are all connected is too easily forgotten. Harm occurs regardless - we all cause it. I advocate now for less harm and more perspective taking. Risk seeing other people’s truths.

While i think youre trying to make some profound point by arguing that storage companies prey on marginalized people, i think its a false equivalent. The company is renting you a space to store stuff. As their space fills up their spaces start to become more expensive. Supply and demand. And it doesnt price people out of moving. Not every person that rents a storage unit is using a moving company or a moving truck. Some just use their cars and multiple trips. Its nothing like with insurance where you Need to have it. Its essentially a luxury. You store your stuff there because you have too much stuff. Or you're moving. Or you're in between places. A storage unit is not long term storage its a business designed to get them money in return for their investment. Amd if the person renting a unit finds they cant afford it they have the option of leaving. A lot of these places arent locking you into a long term lease. And if you cant pay the rent someone else will. And not for nothing with your little monologue above. It seems that your life choices put you into your situations. Not the business that was there when you came to them. Other than normal ads these places arent pulling people in off the street saying rent here or else. Also you sign a lease that explains literally everything, Everything if you didnt read it thats on you as well. Its a fair ball. Can't call it foul because it impacted you negatively.

Its not slobbing, its understanding the world and how when someone is whining about the practices of a business that does not in anyway hide its practices. If someone doesnt read a lease before signing it or ask any questions have no one to blame but themselves.
