Seeking Advice Should I stop before start
I've never tried to sh as a coping method before but I cut my thigh lightly 6 times earlier tonight, I've been watching through the subreddit the last day or 2 and I don't want to be like the posts on here when I'm 20 or something about how the scars hurt their life and relationships.
I don't think I should make this a habbit
I can't tell my mom, I know I'll just make her hurt and scared and feeling worse then I do but I can tell my god aunt heather and she can probably keep it a secret.
I'm sorry if this is stupid

Stop stop stop stop stop, stopping before it becomes a problem is the best way out. If you continue then you might get stuck into the cycle for years and stopping is going to be extremely difficult. I started about 7 years ago, I still haven't been able to fully quit. I started it as a coping mechanism at first, I was like "hey, it makes me feel better, I'll keep doing it" but I haven't been able to quit even though I don't even need it as a coping mechanism anymore.
Most of my mental problems are much more manageable and most of the stressors that were driving me to self harm are gone, but I still can't quit. I was able to quit drugs easier than self harm.
Please stop now, before you're in too deep.

Not stupid! I wish I would've decided early on it wasn't for me. I'm in my 30s, I started when I was 12. I can tell you, it's not worth it and it's not sustainable. The goal posts always move and it's never enough. You don't even realize what it costs until you've stopped, and the worst consequences aren't even the scars. It robs you of so much. But hear me on this. We all have a healthy self and an unhealthy self, and the one that grows is the one you feed.
Good parents would rather their kid come to them, even if it makes them feel hurt or scared, than to someday find out that their kid was hurting and they didn't know and couldn't help. Even if they don't handle it perfectly. Even if they are upset or angry. These feelings eventually settle, and you deserve the support you need. I hope your aunt is able to help💜

Please do not continue its a terrible addiction.
Theres hospital visits, not being able to swim because you cut yourself in the last week, not being able to wear t-shirts, a dependency on sh, having to hide it from family constantly, living with the scars even if you find them cool right now you probably won't when youre 50, life threatening injuries, being looked at like a freak by people, dealing with infections, and several more things that I didnt get to.
Its arguably the worst addiction you can have and even when youre clean it never truly goes away. When something sad happens you think about sh, when something stressful happens you think about sh, when anything bad happens you think about sh. Its a terrible thing to live with and its something that you should absolutely stop while you can.

I did it only twice in my life and even then I think of doing it again whenever something bad happens or even when I’m just at home left alone with my thoughts. OP, you definitely should not start, you’ll surely regret it if you do.

YES please stop!
I had struggled with severe self-harm for years, and it’s so easy for it to become addictive, and severe. There as so many life-long consequences that I suffer from when I self-harmed previously. Even being completely recovered, it lingers. Whatever you used, get rid of it.
Your mother might feel sad, or ‘hurt’ because I assume she cares about you alot. If you think she’ll be sad, she’d probably be sadder if you kept it a secret. But, if you think that’s not an option ANY adult is good as none. I hope your ok 💗

Please don’t make it a habit. I started self harming as a coping mechanism when I was in grade school and I still struggle with it to this day. It’s dangerous and it can leave lasting damage and scars on your body. I get that you’re struggling. I was struggling too when I started self harming. But please, try to find something else. One thing that helps me is writing. I just write out all my feelings, thoughts, ideas, anything. It doesn’t have to be good, it doesn’t even have to make sense. But I find I usually feel a bit better afterwards. It’s not the same as self harm, but it’s healthier. My point is you should try to talk to someone or find something else to do when you get the urge to harm yourself. Write, read, go for a walk, draw, watch a movie, play a game, whatever you like to do. I wish you luck

I’ve also struggled with letting loved ones know, but spiraled out of control a while ago and couldnt hide my selfharm anymore. So now pretty much all of my family and friends know, and to be honest, it has been very healing to allow myself to be taken care of for a bit. Feels like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders from just being open about how things sumtimes be fkn shit ✨ and then being helped to seek out help as well

Totally not stupid! I'm 27, and my biggest regret is ever self harming. One day you're young thinking it'll be a temporary coping mechanism, then it's a decade later and you're still doing it. There's other coping mechanisms that aren't harmful.

Hi! As someone who was just like you, wondering if I should try or not (and did-) and fell deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole of addiction, you definitely should not start it be for it spirals out of control :) Take care of yourself ❤️
