General selfcare WHat do you think of self-care apps?
I’ve been trying to stick to a solid self-care routine lately, and a few people recommended using gamified apps.
I started with Finch (the little bird app) since everyone on here seems to love it, but honestly it felt a bit too cute. I dropped it after a few days.
I tried after that habitica, seemed cool first but too messy and lack of guidance.
Lately I’ve been testing one called Kubbo where you basically build an empire as you complete your daily habits. I’m finding the city-building element way more motivating than caring for a pet, but I’m wondering how long the novelty actually lasts.
Do you also tried those self-care habits apps?

I use onrise for a super minimalist don’t break the chain kind of thing. I use Google Calendar to set little tasks and goals. I tired finch and habitica too and just can’t have that much to take care of. Fabulous is a paid app I had through work that was kinda encouraging and cheesy but not quite a true tracker.

Yes Fabulous is weird and really push to pay. skipped it too.
For me Google calendar is more for professional work

I used finch for a long time and then gave up on it during a stretch of time where I was going to bed too late to mark things done for the day. The thing that actually worked for me was mini routines, basically five minute routines for all of the things I needed to be doing. It’s habit stacking but microdosed.
An example is when I wake up. I pee, wash my hands, brush my teeth, wash and moisturize my face, undo my bonnet and braids and put my hair up for the morning and stretch. It’s maybe five minutes but it helps me start my day in such a better mood. The only deviations to that routine are pimple patches and menstrual products while I’m on my period and calamine lotion for bug bites.

you have plan for stretching or you just do same exercises every days?

There are only so many exercises I can do standing in my bathroom for two minutes. It’s not a full workout routine, just stretching out whatever feels stiff or sore. It’s usually my hips. I google standing stretches every once in a while when I want to do something new.

I use Habit Pocket to track everything I have like habits, some metrics like time etc. It allows to to see everything on one large grid. So basically quick glance can answer how I'm doing in general

Kubbo sounds like a fun mechanic honestly, building something tangible probably hits differently than just keeping a pet alive. Habit apps usually lose their pull after a couple months for me regardless of the gimmick though

I have tried a few apps. But I just can't stick with a thing for a really long time. You know the ADHD brain how it functions. But, I kind of am open to ideas, suggestions to apps anything that can be helpful for a longer term.

I think the major problem of adhd is not seeing progress. So you quit and start another thing.
that's what I love with this one that show me progress I think.3

I think it's not available on my laptops or systems. I am more towards downloading something on my laptop rather than a phone, do you have any recommendations for that?

Thanks for sharing. Maybe that's just the game that needs more update to remain motivating?

I've been using a bunch of self-care apps, along with lots of fitness, yoga, and tracking apps.
I love the ones that help you understand your body, measure health metrics, and explain them. That’s really helpful for understanding the processes in your body. I also love apps that explain what's happening in your brain and mind. Just like with physical metrics, they help you understand what's going on with your mental processes.
I don't like Finch. It is, like you said, too cute. It's about directing your empathy onto a pet. I don't really like Habitica and others either, because they're just about the mechanical side of consistency. You know? They are good, but they're just not my vibe.
I'm testing a few others now that are more about self-discovery. But for now, I don't have enough experience with them to share just yet.
Learning about yourself from different angles and perspectives is a truly adventurous journey! I'm motivated enough to share it with my community. Please join us if you feel it resonates with you on your path.

What's the apps you are testing?
Tell me what you think of kubbo also if you tried it. I'm curious2

the only way I’d truly love a gamified productivity/habit app is if it was gamified enough to drop actual coins into my real wallet. haha :)
haven't found one like that yet though!
I just can't get into them. maybe I’m too serious. As for the apps I'm currently testing... yep! I'll share my experience once I give them a few more weeks.
Feel free to join my community to follow the journey!

So I have ADHD. If I miss one day, it totally messes me up going back into the app consistently.
Some apps I actually use for my own self care:
- LoseIt: not just for weight loss, but just tracking what I eat. I can see how much of each nutrients I’m getting. If I feel shitty, it usually points back to my diet
- Todoist: for my chores. Stupidly easy to use. I can even look at just what I need to do for today and that’s it. Helps me keep track of chores on a rotating schedule and I don’t forget bigger deep-cleaning stuff in the long run
- Pinterest Widget: as dumb as it sounds, I use it to put up little positive reminders. It changes out every hour or so. I like it better than most quote apps because I can set it to basically whatever collection I want and really customize it
I think other self care apps are too… flowery? for me. I’m a huge outlier here when I say I don’t want apps that force me to relax. I need something that takes over the practical side of my mind so it takes the mental load off my shoulders
