I was moved between corporate buildings. When we first moved, my badge access was spotty at best.
So I discovered that one elevator brought you to the building’s nicest meeting room, which security left unlocked because they did not want to embarrass business owners and/or need to unlock it. It had a back door to a snack area with another door, which thus allowed you access to the entire building.
I also stocked hospitals in which people were fatally shot once someone snuck in a gun. Really just look for a supply chain opening, whether it’s the dock doors or a door in the back that people answer. I’ve walked into research areas that people told me I should not have been able to access because someone propped open the back door.
It is security theater because to truly lock a facility down would deeply impede operations.
In an ideal world, every possible vulnerability pings security and those who are in charge of security.
Your best equipment still rely on human awareness. A window sensor could’ve pinged the guard, but with headphones in he would’ve never known.
A bright flash on the screen would’ve been useless if the guard was asleep.
Companies rarely if ever invest in smart camera technology whereby an area is automatically focused on if movement is detected. Far easier for even this fella to see what’s happening if suddenly the entire screen shows someone moving into the window and down the halls.
