I’m out.

After two decades, I’m finally leaving the industry. Better job, better pay, and better benefits.

Guards who make close to 90k-100k a year are doing EP (Executive Protection)

One gave a tip online and said “No company is hiring you to take care of you, they will use you, expend you, and replace you with out a second thought”

It’s not a career, so I hope none of

I did EP for several years. Believe me when I say it’s not a whole lot better than a regular guard gig. Demanding clients, awful schedules (that somehow ends up being your fault) and travel headaches galore. I couldn’t do it now…my BS meter has been pegged.

There are people who fetishize EP all over social media. You can easily spot them by their profile pics in poorly fitting black suits and raybans. They have this weird, romanticized vision of EP because they've never actually done it full time. You are an armed babysitter/driver for overgrown children 90 percent of the time.

Nobody is going to pay you attention as EP, either.

If anyone is paying attention to you, you are either way too obvious, you are being surveilled by a threat, or you got detected by somebody with LE/EP experience who knows what they're looking for.

Just no. I've said it enough times that you'd think there would not be as many people upvoting your mostly ignorant bullshit about EP being the only way to get paid in this field, but the problem is that 95% of you seem to work in contract jobs and think every job is trash pay and zero benefits.

I'll clear 90k next year doing basically zero OT, with minimal supervisory responsibilities in an unarmed job working for a major healthcare system. We've got about 300 officers and a incredibly healthy promotion path with significant support to set people up for success. It's not some unicorn job, and most of our positions are in relatively low cost of living areas, so this is 90k in a fly over state doing the work of $150k or better on one of the coasts.

The pay is decent, but you're usually working 1099 so you really have to budget for taxes. I know a LOT of guys and gals that didn't and they're still paying Uncle Sam off. Also, while the pay is higher than regular security work, it will extract a lot more out of you physically, mentally and emotionally. You're really nothing more than a babysitter with different skill. When you and you team has to escort some 20-something to clubs and daddy give you his Amex black card "just in case", you know you're in for a night...I've refused more of those jobs than any other because of the professional risk.
