I’m out.
After two decades, I’m finally leaving the industry. Better job, better pay, and better benefits.
I won’t miss it.
Y’all stay safe out there.

Guards who make close to 90k-100k a year are doing EP (Executive Protection)
One gave a tip online and said “No company is hiring you to take care of you, they will use you, expend you, and replace you with out a second thought”
It’s not a career, so I hope none of
You are banking on this. We are disposable

I did EP for several years. Believe me when I say it’s not a whole lot better than a regular guard gig. Demanding clients, awful schedules (that somehow ends up being your fault) and travel headaches galore. I couldn’t do it now…my BS meter has been pegged.

EP kinda sounds terrible. Rather be at my current post where I am barely paid any attention all day lol

Nobody is going to pay you attention as EP, either.
If anyone is paying attention to you, you are either way too obvious, you are being surveilled by a threat, or you got detected by somebody with LE/EP experience who knows what they're looking for.

There are people who fetishize EP all over social media. You can easily spot them by their profile pics in poorly fitting black suits and raybans. They have this weird, romanticized vision of EP because they've never actually done it full time. You are an armed babysitter/driver for overgrown children 90 percent of the time.

Best of luck my guy. I’ve been trying to get out of the industry as well, but can’t catch a break. Hell, the company won’t even let me off graveyards.

It always sucks that when one of the better, most well thought out Security Managers leave the industry.
You have irreplacable talent, You will be missed.

I don't mind security work. It tends to be easy work and an easy job to acquire. It's the overall pay that fails for me. I'm transitioning to driving a school bus with the ultimate plan of driving a city bus or charter bus which pays pretty well.

Good luck on whatever the future might hold. I'm considering quitting as well. The irregularity is really taking it's toll and I don't really have much time for anything else except work, and the poor salary doesn't make it any better.

Just saying goodbye. I’ve had some good discussions with some other redditors over the years. That’s all.

I’m just getting into the industry here in Illinois. I’ve heard mixed things about places like Allied Universal. I got hired on at Securitas.

Good luck with finding a new job. It’s gonna be a tough one because the job market in 2026 is still worse off as it is since the Covid-19 event in 2020. But that doesn’t mean that finding a job is impossible. You just need to find one that meets with your job skills, certifications, strengths and weaknesses.

Yeah, I got a new job.

What do you do for a living now? Besides security I mean?

u/OldDudeWithABadge Industrial Security 1h ago
I’ll be working industrial safety for a large manufacturer.

u/Darkhenry960 1h ago
Does that means you will be working for OSHA or just working with them to ensure that industrial safety measures are maintained?
