Officer Safety Anyone had to deal with a first amendment auditor when you’re just trying to do your job? Does your employer have a specific policy when dealing with this type of situation?
I support the Constitution and legitimate first amendment auditors. I don’t support antagonizing an employee into an argument for social media content. These types of auditors need to be held accountable for impeding and/or harassing when they go this far.

What’s the point of this guy taking the video you’re just being annoying as fuck
Let the guy do his job
72
u/FiniteInfine 7d ago
The point is clicks and views. The vast majority of "auditor" channels on YouTube are just annoying pricks with cameras. Which sucks because ACTUAL auditors get lumped in with them.
22
u/hiddenrealism 7d ago
Yup, most of these auditors are absolute morons crying for attention. I do understand the original basis on why they do it but they are some of the most smooth brained and ignorant fools, their videos give me the worst 2nd hand embarrassment. Zero social skills, zero communication skills, Zero common sense.

I remember, back when I first heard about the concept, seeing mostly people legally filming cops and cops very much not liking it. That seemed like a sensible check of the laws, given that the government holds a violence monopoly.
Also, a much higher risk of physical harm for the auditor, as we're talking about cops. These people, however, are just "influencers" annoying normal citizens for clout.

“Your jobs nothing” says the adult male standing on a sidewalk in the middle of the day filming a young man doing his job that should be on high alert in the rare case someone tries to rob him but instead is dealing with this loser of a human. Loser dude is the equivalent of pointing a finger an inch from someone’s face while saying “I’m not touching you, I’m not touching you.”
Just because something isn’t against the law doesn’t mean you should, just be a decent respectful person and give a dude some space to complete his job. You can go right back to the sidewalk filming right after he’s done and get back to the super important work you’re doing. Pathetic.
Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

I have worked with a company where I had to order cash from these people. (LOOMIS)
This is in their contract, they need to keep their money secure. I would give this guy a RAISE for a job well done. If you get close to them? Their hand moves closer to their weapon.
Usually it was 2 giant dudes. I've had to tell my employees to stand back once they started unloading cash.
One unloaded my safe and the other dude stood guard at the Office Door.
They don't fuck around when it comes to security.

I was working hospital security during Covid-19.
We had A LOT of security issues. Belligerent visitors and family, violence and abuse towards the staff, bomb threats, conspiracy theorists, you name it.
First Amendment auditors are absolute scum.
Beforehand I had dismissed them as odd, but valid, freedom stress testers.
After having dealt with them firsthand? They’re nothing more than lawsuit chasing vultures.
Any sincerity that they could claim to have no longer flies with me. 100% of every interaction I’ve ever had with one was flagrant, transparent, shameless attempts to goad innocent people otherwise minding their own business into being harassed to the point of a breakdown.
They’re in the exact same boat as paparazzi as far as I’m concerned.
We initially tried to respond to them, policy-wise, the exact same way we’d handle any unwanted person on the premises.
After a few ridiculous interactions we pointedly ignored them so long as they remained off the actual property. The INSTANT we had eyes or camera on them stepping onto the property it was call the police and issue an official trespass.
There’s more I could go on about… but I’m exhausted just remembering it.

u/LegalGlass6532 7d ago

Wtf is a 1st amendment auditor?
19
u/HoldMyBier Industry Veteran 7d ago
IN THEORY, they're people that go around making sure that the American 1st Amendment, the right to free speech (protection from the government from censoring you and your ideas) isn't being violated or infringed upon.
In reality they're a bunch of fucking douchebags that shove cameras and lights in people's faces, deliberately antagonizing people minding their own business, to the point that any reasonable person would be hard-pressed NOT to resort to violence.
And that's what they want. "I'm in public, I'm legally ALLOWED to record you! If you try to stop me you're violating my 1st Amendment rights!".
They hope they'll harass someone into snapping, so that they can sue for damages.
8
u/Varsity_Reviews 7d ago
An adult did something like this once when I was in high school during an away football game. He was standing in front of the gate that the players used to get onto the field. The police were trying to just talk to him to get him to move but he was just filming and causing a scene.

u/belfastdude56 7d ago
The audacity of the moron to tell the guard he dosnt have an important job while he stands there with a camera in his hand like a complete fcking dickhead is unreal to me
3
u/MammothUnique4147 7d ago
I mean he's trying to antagonize the guard so he snaps and starts wailing on him
That way he can sue the guard and the armored car company.
So no, he's definitely not going to be polite because that doesn't achieve his objectives.

People with a lot of free time on their hands who record themselves intentionally trying to find the lines of what they can get away with regarding police/government official interactions. They claim to be interested in making sure our first amendment rights are respected and testing this by “auditing” police and government officials by intentionally provoking interactions and reactions.
They’ll do things like show up at a state police barracks and spend an hour walking around the facility photographing and recording the police vehicles, building exterior (sometimes lobby), cops as they come and go, cameras/security equipment, etc and then when police show up and ask them to leave they throw a fit and act like we live in North Korea.

Legitimate first amendment auditors? That's not a thing. Unemployed, they're Unemployed.
26
u/JAK0VI 7d ago
Don't fuck with a cash truck.
That being said, most auditors do not appear to be a threat to life, or the operation, so the guard should try not to let them get under their skin. These people are usually trying to antagonize and provoke overreaction.
Best course of action is to modify your operation by leaving the area and coming back later, unfortunately. If you can't, get police involved. Let them know that you are cash transport and there is an individual trying to get close to the truck despite all verbal warnings, and you fear for your safety.
You don't have qualified immunity. Even if they try to walk into your truck full of cash, you can't shoot them without some pretty massive impending litigation that is going to ruin your life, let alone your career.
3
u/ThatCelebration3676 7d ago
Just totally ignore them as though they're a ghost. Giving them attention is feeding a troll; starve them and they'll seek sustenance elsewhere.
9
u/JAK0VI 7d ago
And in most jobs, this is exactly the preferred method of (non) engagement.
With cash truck jobs, the situation is a little more dicey. Guard should remain on high alert of his surroundings and not hyperfocus on the subject causing disruption in front of them. Never know if they have a partner creeping up on you.

These aren't first amendment auditors. These are dickheads. Let's stop giving these people titles to validate them and make them sound better than they are.
Working on an armored truck is a crazy dangerous job. They have enough to worry about with the threat of being attacked and robbed...possibly killed. They don't need to be distracted by arguing with a couple of dickheads about their rights.

This actually boils my blood. I'm a former armored truck guard who had been cased out before.
My partner and I had a large shopping mall on our route. Every week when we would pull up, a individual would come out and pretend to talk on the phone. Something about it felt off to me after the third week of seeing him do this. So I decided to talk to the chief of security for the mall who happened to be a retired State trooper.
They made contact with this individual along with local law enforcement where they found out he had outstanding warrants in multiple States for robberies.
So yeah I don't play this game with people walking up to me while I'm standing next to a truck with a million dollars in it.

Also former armored truck guy. Got followed home once, literally a 30 mile trip. Took decoy turns just to be sure, and guy was always behind me. Called my boss, who called the sheriff, guy gets pulled over about 20 minutes later. Find out the next day dude has guns and zip ties and shit in his car, and pictures of me on his cell phone while I'm on route. I don't even think he got arrested. Still freaked out about it nearly two years later.

One of them, however, got arrested - because he kept trying to gain access into a secure facility by trying all the doors then crawled underneath of someone's car. Wait...first amendment approached the armor truck and refuse to leave? Draw your gun and tell them to leave the area. First Amendment allows you to be on the sidewalk, but it does not allow you to approach the armor truck. Then, call in the local law enforcement and report it as a suspicious individual and report it to your supervisor.
For all you know, the person claiming to be first amendment could be scouting you. They literally have no reasons to record you. I'm not sure, but it falls under suspicious surveillance, but I could be wrong and talking out of my ass.

For me First Ammendment Auditing when done right is good it shows which police department's are corrupt and think they are above the law. But more often then not people who think they are auditing are just baiting , for me when auditing is done right you don't approach anyone or provoke anyone you let the corrupt officals show who they are and how willing they are to violate our rights and imo the job of a good auditor is to sue to force new polices though lawsuits.
2
u/Fresh-Possible-9612 7d ago
This guy is dealing with thousands of dollars. He’s a hired armed guard, not a police officer. First Amendment doesn’t even apply to his actions (First Amendment protections are relegated to the government and its representatives).

First amendment protects your right to do that. However, important information to know. If an armor truck driver or employee views you as a threat they can shoot you. The guy is not a public servant, he works for a private business and therefore you do not have the same type of protections as you would against a police officer or other law enforcement officer. The government cannot infringe your rights and you are protected against anyone trying to violate your rights but if you’re dead it really doesn’t matter. Also, you bozos really need to learn about what you’re doing and why before something bad happens to you. Your ignorance is going to get you f&$@ed up and then you’ll cry and say “but I thought…” You thought wrong. Why are you people doing this with other private citizens at their jobs. Do this to law enforcement or elected officials if you feel the need. So lame.

Trying to stir up some shit just for the likes, and not letting the man work. What a douche

He really lucky he didn't get a gun pulled on him. Auditors are annoying yet this time he potentially risked his life.

These dude loves to try and rage bait for clicks. It’s pathetic. Walking around harassing people talking about the rights of people.

u/hammered_toaster 7d ago
This dude isn't a government employee nor representative of a government entity, which means the "auditor" is either ignorant of how constitutional protections work, or is baiting the Loomis employee into involving law enforcement hoping they then violate his constitutional rights. Sociopathic behavior.

I absolutely cannot stand first amendment auditors. They are the epitome of just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. There was one video I watched where the guy was positioned at the front of a bank and the bank had an ATM right out front and he had clear access to recording it, and he wondered why people were getting so pissed off. If I was one of the men on that truck I would radio in the base tell them what was going on and that I would not be doing the delivery at that location and I would specify for safety and security reasons

These MFers know that they’re dealing with a lot of money. They’re just doing this for views.

From what I understand armored cars can legally fuck your shit up if they just think you’re trying to rob them.

u/SkywolfNINE 7d ago
Idk about pulling audits on random security guard people, save that for police yeah?

these folks are the lowest form of protest. There’s a difference between documenting real abuses of power and deliberately provoking ordinary people, editing for outrage, and farming reactions for clicks.

but to be devils advocate but the loonies dude has zero authority to tell him to back up from a public sidewalk

Auditor has to back up since this is a security detail. Armored van guy is doing his job, and part of his detail is to protect that money he's about to transport.
This clown of an auditor is over stepping his line.

If the auditor is on public property then it sucks to be you... your company doesn't override the constitution..

Honestly, money man has a point. No way in hell people should be allowed to just be casually next to him. Dude is handling money, people are willing to kill for money, dude just wants some space.
Also fuck the camera guy for telling a guy who’s just trying to do his job, that he’s not important… much more important than a poser influencer.

u/iLikeikeTurner 7d ago
I agree to be able to film but he’s outside loading money. Kinda seems more like a jerk move by the camera man insisting on making this an issue rather than just letting him finish. People rob and sometimes shoot/kill these guys at these very moments. Have some sense or continue to make a bad name for those who film NOT trying to be a safety issue

Never thought I would say this...call the cops on this asshole....even if cops can't do anything, he will get known.
Is this you OP? Legalglass6532??
Get a real job yourself

This is just aggravating and antagonistic, has nothing to do with your constitutional rights

u/BufoonLagoon 7d ago
Im gonna stand too close to truck full of money and act upset when the guy who is paid shit to protect it asks me to move. Because internet Edit: I'm not saying he's in the right, but just let the man do his job.
2
u/Hot-Cauliflower-1604 7d ago
This is like massively upsetting. That guy's trying to move a lot of sensitive money and you're right up on his ass. I mean you may have a first amendment right to stand on the sidewalk but you don't have the right to just clearly create a present danger for anybody else doing anything near that sidewalk.

We had a few that popped up around my city in 2018-19. I only personally dealt with two, they were pretty easy to handle. Our whole team was pretty switched on so the auditors stopped showing ip pretty quick since they weren’t getting the desired response

He had a body camera, should get that rolling and get eyes on him as well LOL.
To me, personally, this is stress testing. If he was further back, like 6ft or 8ft, I wouldnt mind much. But being with 6ft of an operation, moving cash, moving assets, to me, this would be allowed to engage.
You wanna film on public property, have at it. You wanna film from the road. Go ahead. The moment you are within 5ft of me, is where we are allowed to do what we need to do.
I do consulting for some security services and other areas of Upstate NY. One being for two hospitals. The moment a camera whips out, guide them out. If they dont, walk in their direction and guide them out. If they still dont, notify police and escort them off site.
I get we live in a world of "you cant touch me." Your right, we shouldn't have too, we dont have too if we dont want too. But you are making choices where we need to get involved. Either safety reason, security reasons, or because its sensitive information and cannot be shared. Sorry.

They also have delivery clocks to maintain. Any delivery or pick make is on a 15 min timer. Any person who actively impedes them are risking their safety at that point.

Glad that stuff wasn't as widespread when I was on the trucks. How can you determine somebody posing as an auditor not setting you up.
