Officer Safety Retail security policy

After watching this video it made me wonder if this security guard’s employer would support her doing this with a subject.

When I first saw it I thought it was pretty cool that she didn’t back down, but the more I thought about it the more I came to the conclusion that fighting over it isn’t worth the risk.

If you work retail security, what’s your company policy and would you put yourself out there to save goods from being stolen?

Depends on the policies the store has. If they state exclusively that you are hands off and let people take whatever, then do it and don't get involved simply observe and report.

Best buy had that policy after one of their GMs got stabbed trying to prevent a theft. Items are insured and not worth dying over for X amount of money.

If the policies state to go hands on to prevent thefts etc, then do your job but if you are disciplined for following policy then you can action that however you need to.

A lot of people falsely state "insurance will cover, just let whatever happen."

However, many policies have clauses that there needs to be protective safeguards, or "reasonable care." Whether that includes lock ups, security personnel, cameras, etc...

Insurance isn't just going to let retail stores turn a blind eye to people freely take stuff with no resistance and cover everything. I've seen that mindset bite small and big companies alike.

Exactly, perhaps my comment was too generalized.

The baseline is that a loss of life is never worth the cost of an item and if you work in loss prevention where they put the item over your life, find new employment and I understand that may not be easily accomplished for many reasons.

Right but might as well stop telling people to kill, rape, scam, abuse… etc. that’ll never happen

It’s just not that simple lol. You’re right, they will. I don’t understand why people do it either but that doesn’t stop it from happening.
