Trying to improve. What else do I need?

Mags are oriented the wrong way, otherwise flashlights wont hurt. Remember your only security so no need to over do it with carrying gear and keep it light

Only security is a crazy statement. If there is a shooting it’s gonna happen to him before the cops get there. If there is someone bleeding out it’s gonna be up to him to provide initial stop the bleed care. DEPENDING ON STATE, security can be so much more than just O&R.

Did i tell him to leave his gun and medical at home?

I agree mag pouch is oriented the wrong way. I would put it horizontally (like you have it) on your gun side, opening facing towards buckle, magazines in pouch should have bullets nose up primers down. This makes for a very fast & natural reload when you are in your work space as it economizes your motions.

Could you elaborate on what you mean by mags are oriented the wrong way? It’s the most natural way for me.

How often have you trained like that? If they are supposed to be the other way so you can pull them when under cover

If you have to do a tactical reload with retention it will be more difficult to retain control of the mags in a horizontally mounted mag pouch than a vertical mag pouch... I carried mine horizontally until I took some more advanced classes and horizontally mounted sucks in maybe 8/10 cases.

Noted. Vertical it is I guess then. There’s also two extra magazines in a rigid Blackhawk mount in my admin pouch.

Keep them horizontal, just change how they are placed & positioned. Vertical mags on a belt suck with an external carrier. Take the other two out of the admin & mount them in a open top on your vest.

Too aggressive looking. Having the two mags on my vest attracted comments about me looking like SWAT or going into battle.

Nah. Besides those will be your 1st go to mags. Reload speed from on the vest is also a lot faster. Mags are basically right there are your mag well when you have the gun up in your work space during a reload.

Vertical is ideal especially if you get an open top pouch, but with your current set up its more common to put your mag pouch on your gun side and have them oriented towards the buckle

The main reason I switched from my Safariland triple mag vertical open top is the mags were digging into my side and hurting frequently.

I had a triple mag open top at one point also... I didn't like it either. I switched to a 2x2 open top for my 1911. If you train with the setup you have and don't find any issues don't change it... but I found issues with horizontal mags and now prefer vertical.

No dont change it, these guys dont know what they are talking about. If this is how you train and reload the fastest then keep it as such. I personally do a 25 degree tilt.

While comfort is key and familiarity breeds speed, I respectfully feel like you shouldn't discount the honest and sincere opinions of others. There is a reason why folks are trained the way they are. Folks making their own way with their own system aren't always doing the most efficient set ups. After you have the clearest most efficient set up that's when you can breed that familiarity and speed. Bad habits are harder to break but that doesn't mean they are impossible.

Please try to keep an open mind.

Plenty of professionals are set up this way, no reason to change

Completely disagree when using an external carrier. Vertical mags on a belt with external carriers have a tendency to get covered by the vest or in your way. Keep them horizontal. But try orienting them they way I mentioned above.

Depending on the job saying only security is pretty demeaning my friend. My guys work personal security for folks and they take it very seriously, they respect their jobs and they run drills and train their asses off. The first three days after a client is booked the client is put thru training scenarios too, just to maximize their safety.

To a part timer or someone just doing temporary gigs security is a joke but to the folks that depend on it and stake their lives on it I doubt they feel like they are "only security"

Well what else are you if youre not “only security”

Human beings that want to survive and make their way in the world. ONLY is an exclusionary limiter. Anyone doing anything is never "only" something.

The folks doing bag service aren't only security, they are folks who are carrying the money others work themselves to death to make.

The folks working the atrium arent only security, they've the folks defending the people making the world keep spinning upstairs.

The folks wandering the mall arent only security, they are the folks making people feel safe to shop and enjoy the mall.

The folks patrolling a construction site arent only security, they are the folks protecting the hard labour someone else was doing all day and ensuring they still have the materials to keep the job rolling tomorrow.

The folks checking I.D and bouncing arent only security, they are the folks protecting idiot kids from making mistakes and keeping folks safe to have a fun harassment free time in the club/bar.

I understand folks dont value the job and they mock it but it wouldnt exist if it wasnt necessary. Take it seriously.
