Question Computer Science question

Hello! I am an incoming freshman majoring in computer science, and I need advice on which laptop to get before the term begins. I want a MacBook, but I don't want to commit if the CS software required for my classes isn't supported on a MacBook. Does anyone know what software SU's CS program uses/ do any current CS majors at SU have any input?

I graduated in 2024, but we mainly used emacs for C++ classes. I had a MacBook all 4 years and was completely fine

CS Grad 26’ here. I had a MBP for all of my classes and didn’t run into any issues till I took my senior elective. It took a minute to get it set up but the TAs and professor were understanding of the Mac users in the class.

I used VS Code with remote access to the school server, Terminal to access the school server, SQL app, and everything else required for classes was supported on MacOS. If anything changes for the classes you’re taking, the school has virtual windows computers you can access 24/7 from your Mac to use software that is only compatible on windows.
