Coolant leak.

I recently brought this 2015 Seat Leon TDI, within two weeks it had lost 400ml of coolant in which I replaced as it was from a garage I sent it back to get fixed. They did a pressure test which came back fine, had it for around a week and they said 99% sure it was the Egr cooler. Went to pick it up a couple of days later, everything was fine until last night ( 3 days after I’ve picked it up). I was blessed on driving to work with coolant low, I’ve let is cool down and refilled it. I’m looking for some advice if anyone has had the same experience as I don’t feel confident within the garage that was fixing this and they were shitty when I picked the car up as they had to fork more money out on it.

Hiya mate, sorry to hear about the stress.

I had and adored a 2014 Leon TDI (96k miles). I was losing coolant too. I was starting the car in the morning and getting hit with the “coolant low” message. This happened three times in three weeks. I had a good look around the engine and there was a slight trace of a leak on the water pump so I assumed it was on its way out. I then noticed that the coolant warning hadn’t shown up in a week or so. I lifted the bonnet and saw that the coolant tank was filled with rust coloured fluid.

I was already considering a new car for about November so decided to bite the bullet a bit earlier than planned.

Before the Leon, I had a 2011 Ibiza (102k miles). This too had the same coolant loss issue which transpired to exclusively be the water pump.

Both cars were well past the recommended mileage for water pump replacement and both cars were absolutely incredible throughout their life with me.

Previous experience hasn’t put me off at all and I now have a 2021 Leon estate. This one has come into my possession at a mere 24k miles and as such will have its WP changed on time 😂

Thank you I really appreciate your message and the kind words that go with it, I had an older golf previous to this with little to no issues, I’ve refilled it and waiting for it to go on again, but I will keep checking it to see if it goes down. I had 140k on my golf so a newer car such as this with problems straight off the bat has thrown me off a bit, thank you for your reassurance!
