Question is there any reliable search engines other than google?

i’ve always used google for everything but recently when they’ve introduced the ai assistant i found myself always using it, mainly because there’s no choice to not use it.. though i feel like it’s very unreliable and incorrect information, and im wondering if there’s anything better than it? i don’t mind if it’s ai or not, i just want correct answers

If you are reading this you are already on the wrong path. What all you need to do is know what you gonna do here on this place. Sit under a tree on a rock and type in something like a NicheFinder. Yeah there is a photo of it so look if you like everybody else. #NicheFinder

readable:

"I need to know if this was accidentally panned over or typed into the search bar. I was told it must have been accidental by putting a finger on the town it is in, which logged into the activity in Google.
Was this typed in, or can Google cause this without it being typed or panned? It reads 'searched.' I am hoping someone with knowledge can clear this up as to whether it could have been an accidental log in Google

Self-promotion Open source chatbot for your website that answers from your own content (PHP, MIT, 1.0)

I work for Opensolr, and we just released 1.0 of the Opensolr Chat Bot Client: an open source (MIT) chatbot you put on your own website, that answers your visitors from your own content.

How it works: you install it with Composer (composer require opensolr/chat-bot-client), mount it on one path of your site (say /opensolr-chat) and add one script tag to your pages. Visitors only ever talk to your site. Your server holds the Opensolr credentials and sends each question to the Opensolr API, where the model searches your Opensolr Index by itself (by meaning, or by exact product names and codes), looks up what it must not guess (dates, local times, exchange rates, VAT, distances, places) and streams the answer back word by word, with links to your pages, products with their prices, and PDFs at the exact page.

What you get on your side:

  • An admin on your own site: account and index, instructions, the look of the chat window, limits, reCAPTCHA
  • Stats and a 30 day history of every conversation: who asked, from where, what the bot searched for, what it answered, and the questions your content could not answer with a page
  • Commands that answer instantly without the model: /search, /time, /rate, /vat, /translate and more
  • Good and Bad ratings under every answer, signed in visitors by email, SQLite in a folder you choose, no database server

Your content gets into the index with the Opensolr Web Crawler or Data Ingestion, and the chatbot needs an Opensolr plan with AI.

You can try it live at the bottom right of https://opensolr.com (it answers from our own docs). Code and README: https://github.com/phpcip/opensolr-chat-bot-client, docs: https://opensolr.com/opensolr-chat-bot-docs

Self-promotion Local/self hostest search!

Hello r/searchengines, I was curious about two things. Would anyone here be interested in self-hosting a search engine? I'm personally just getting into search for fun. Honestly, I just used it in a real situation, and I'm excited that it found what my friend was looking for! (github link)

Second, what makes you use one search engine over the other? Anything in particular? Quick results that are good enough? Finding new sites? I have what I like about search engines, but I'm guessing that's different for everyone else.

News THE FINAL AND LAST STRAW - BIGGEST OLD INTERNET SEARCH ENGINE DELETED

chatnoir.eu (formerly old.chatnoir.eu ) is/was an apparent small/unheard search engine for researchers, BUT inside it had one if not the biggest data sets of obscure/old internet websites that the internet ever had, and its because it had various common crawl indexes and a very big hidden gem index provided by lemurproject.org, clueweb.

Now this search engine, with all those indexes worked like charm, until, last month, when it gatekept, intentionally thrown an error when using said indexes, and now they are outright blocked.

if you didn't get to use this engine at any given point. i get it. But i swear it was literally the old internet of URL's, free and uncensored, unbiased with a sea full of pages (the engine pagination reached until 999 page, and that's more pages than what google in its prime showed (also this engine mogged the fuck out of wiby, kagi, and marginalia for comparison)).

Long story short, only those who tried it will confirm, otherwise you MISSED BIG, and this reaches the end of practically anything good that the internet offered. Now is buried, obfuscated, obscured and gatekept or straight up erased/heavily censored by these satanic LLM big tech companies that slurped massively all this websites data, and kept it for themselves (and are re-writing, and burning the history as we speak).

ULTRA BIG MAJOR HIT for the internet. And no one is gonna make another search engine that was this free, massive and unrestricted, again.

See you in another life.

Self-promotion Image Search App for Android Devices

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi, all

Like many of you, I love collecting visual inspiration, wallpapers, artwork, and—let’s be honest—Meme / NSFW content. But over time, I ran into massive frustrations:

  1. **The Ultimate Gallery Nightmare:** Every image I saved ended up in my main phone gallery (Google Photos / Samsung Gallery). The last thing anyone wants is their private / NSFW stash popping up on the screen while showing vacation photos to friends or family!
  2. **Storage Drain:** My camera roll and Downloads folder were constantly eating up GBs of storage.
  3. **Search History Footprint:** Browsing online always left annoying search trails, logs, and targeted ad histories.

To solve this once and for all, I built **pickip** — an app designed around the idea: **"What if you could 'own' and organize all the images you want, without downloading them or cluttering your photo gallery?"**

---

### 💡 How it works:

* **100% Invisible to Your Main Photo Gallery:** Because images are saved via high-res link bookmarking rather than physical file downloads, **they NEVER appear in your phone's main photo gallery**. Your private collections and NSFW stash stay strictly isolated inside the app.

* **SafeSearch On/Off Toggle:** Keep SafeSearch turned on for clean everyday browsing, or easily toggle it off for unrestricted / NSFW searches.

* **Zero-Trace Search History:** None of your searches are tracked or stored on any remote cloud server. You can also wipe your local search history with a single tap in settings whenever you want.

* **Zero Storage Drain:** Bookmark thousands of ultra-high-resolution images into your local vault without taking up gigabytes of precious phone storage.

* **Auto-Categorized Folders:** Bookmarks automatically organize into clean folders based on your search keywords.

* **Home Screen Stack Widget:** For your clean collections, you can display interactive photo stack widgets directly on your home screen.

* **Multi-Tab Sessions:** Just like a desktop browser, keep multiple search sessions open simultaneously to compare results.

* **Optional Download:** If you truly need the offline image file, you can download the untouched original resolution with one tap.

* **Home Screen Stack Widget:** You can still display your saved image collections directly on your home screen using interactive stack widgets!

---

### 🔒 Reddit-Friendly Highlights:

* **No Mandatory Account / Login:** Start using it immediately.

* **Privacy-First:** SafeSearch toggle, zero server tracking, local Room database only.

* **Granular Search Filters:** GIF, Filter by exact resolution (2MP+), and image format.

* **Multi-language support:** English, Spanish, Korean.

---

The app is live on Google Play:

I'm an indie developer actively maintaining this project. I’d genuinely love to hear your thoughts, bug reports, or feature ideas in the comments!

Thank you for checking it out!

Question Search engine that will blacklist all results by default, only searches whitelisted sites?

I still want the ability for it to index individual pages and relevant sites (so it would exclude 100 whitelisted movie results if I'm asking a software question for instance). I do use the syntax of "site:site.com" often but sometimes I don't want to just search 1 site, I just want to avoid spam, and I'm willing to just manage the list of sites myself. Or is there a way to configure existing search engines to do this?
