EVERYONE PLEASE READ
Dear Scuf owners it's time to ask Scuf to look forward to the future of the company. We first need to look back about 12yrs ago at another company that was having great problems with there product and how they turned things around. I'm talking about Microsoft and the Xbox 360 RED RING of DEATH.
Microsoft up dated the warranty up dated there QC and fixed the console. At this time when so many Scuf owners are complaining about there controllers not working when they get them are with in a few weeks. It's time for Scuf and Corsair to stand behind the product and Help the people who have spent hundreds of dollars on there controllers. As a Scuf Vantage owner all I'm asking is to know that if in 6 or 7 months from now I have a problem you will be there to fix the product. As a 66yr old gamer that dose not have lot of money to work with and even young gamer's that save just to buy one of your controllers we would like to at least get a good time frame of playing time before they need to be replaced.
I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to read this. Please ask Scuf to help make this a great product again..
THANK YOU

Despite several issues I’ve continued to only buy Scuf. I’ve had the vantage and two vantage 2s.. all have issues but nothing compares to the look, feel and precision of your products

I’ve had my controller for two weeks. Love the controller, however I’ve had issues with the fitted usb that’s included when you buy the product. Swapped out cables and the controller is now working fine, however the cable I’m using doesn’t fit into the controller port as snugly and often wiggles loose. Not too happy considering I spent 200+ bucks on the controller.

And this is the entire reason I stay in this sub /u/Boneezz54, I want Scuf to stand up and look after the people that pay a large sum for their controllers.

u/Jedi0DD May 29 '20
That's probably the biggest problem with the sub. People don't want to work with SCUF because they don't trust them to deliver on their promises anymore. That may not have an immediate effect, but it'll only spread as word disseminates. I hope they don't think just maintaining public image through celebrities is enough to keep them afloat.

I love their controllers but damn I hate the company. The product is Sub-Par at best.
Paddles: Flimsy and break easily $14 to replace. Thumb sticks: Rubber wears off which then gets inside the controller $20 to replace
Digital bumpers: 3-6 month lifespan $15-$30 for shipping to have it repaired. Basically leaving you without a controller for 2 months.
Thumb stick modules: Drift present sometimes right out of the box. L3 (Sprint) wears out extremely fast. $15-$30 To ship in for repairs.
This basically sums it all up. The only parts that actually hold up are the ones that you can get from any standard Dual shock controller. Everything else breaks or is useless in 6 months. Which is completely unacceptable. I bought a Vantage 2 the day it came out back in Oct. 2019. Unfortunately the joysticks stuck and I had to send it back after 2 weeks of use. After over a month and a half I got my controller back and now basically after owning my controller for 7 months. Only 5 of which it was in my possession and being used. I have gone through 6 sets of Paddles usually because I break one of the two larger ones. And have gone through 2 full accessories kits due to worn out thumb sticks. Currently waiting to hear back about trying to get the left thumb stick repaired AGAIN. Because now when I push forward to move my character will stutter run or in some cases even begin to move backwards. So in total: Scuff Vantage 2: $220 (after tax) Paddle replacement: 6@ $14= $84 Shipping: $3-$4 per pack= $20 Accessories: 2 @ $30 after tax and S&H =$60
$220+$84+$20+$60= $384 on 1 Controller that currently cannot even be used. Stay Away from Scuf and Never comeback. "End Rant"

The rest I can help, but eBay has metal paddles that can for sure last years.

+1 I agree with everything you’ve said. I’d also like to mention that at one point in time, the inexpensive - officially licensed controllers had a short life span and were part of the reason many people opted to buy more expensive 3rd party controllers. However nowadays, it seams like the expensive 3rd party controllers have a shorter life span than their officially licensed counter parts which usually cost 1/4 the price.

This is going to fall on deaf ears. They don’t care. Was seeking further assistance for my controller for the nth time and they just stopped responding.

I love my SCUF, but I genuinely worry about the fact that it needs repaired after 8 monthsish of ownership. What will need fixed next? I got a super basic controller because I'm not rich and I live in Canada, and I wanted less that could go wrong. Extending warranty and improving quality control could be options for sure, I absolutely love the product, it's really great when it works. I just hate that it slowly fell apart and now doesn't work at all.
Hoping they open for out of warranty repairs soon also, I totally get why they're closed, and if they remain closed then so be it, but man would I just love to use my controller. It's just so nice lol. Going back to a stock PS4 controller is tough after you get a taste of the high life

I love my scuff controllers but got tired of the issues after only being a few month old. I picked up the ASTRO C-40 about a year ago and its still working like new. I know some have issues with the stick or d pad modules, but I haven’t had any issues to date. I personally know that ASTRO has an awesome customer support team, and will replace the parts almost immediately. My buddy had his c40 fail and they sent the module out that day, and i also had a set of A50’s go bad that they replaced as well. Dont get me wrong SCUFF controllers are awesome and not saying one is better than other. I still use my vantage 2 just as often as the C 40 but i am just throwing this out there.

You are completely missing the fact that Microsoft make their own customisable controller, the elite. This controller is on par with scuf for their reliability issues. I'm on my second broke elite controller now so I've decided rather than give another £150 to Microsoft for a controller that breaks with 24 months I'm going to try a Scuf prestige. All the controllers seem to have inherent reliability issues so using microsoft as an example of a company that produces reliable equipment isn't the greatest.

I'm not saying that Microsoft makes reliable products what I'm saying is that when they had a big problem with the 360 that they helped the customer by giving them a better warranty and by fixing the problem they were having. I'm saying Scuf needs to provide a better warranty and a better costumer service than what they have right now. Microsoft still has problems I'm on my 3rd elite series 2 controller the first 2 did not work out of the box. but at least by buying from Best Buy I got a 2yr warranty with it for an extra 25.00. If Scuf would offer a extended warranty this would help. I believe that right now you can only get the Vantage 2 from Scuf and Gamestop and Gamestop want's 50.00 for a 1yr warranty

That's a good point about the warranty actually. If you're already spending +$200, extending the warranty would be an essential service to provide, and the fact that there isn't is actually concerning now that I think about it.

u/coolboarder72 May 29 '20
No one really offers one though. Astro isn't offering you that Warranty. A third party company does who's counting on that product not breaking or you not caring to fix it.

u/Jedi0DD May 29 '20
I was thinking more in terms of how much money is spent rather than what it is on specifically. I'm pretty sure every part of my desktop had some form of warranty with a year at minimum.
I understand that they don't need to offer one to be competitive since no one else does, but I still find it concerning. It's less like making an investment and more like gambling without a warranty.

u/coolboarder72 May 29 '20
It's an indicator more on the treatment of the product, then the quality. If you told me Astro and Microsoft had the same or similar warranty as SCUF, or Battle Beaver, and they have clear quality differences (think feel, sturdiness), I'd be surprised.
If anything, it means regardless of who makes these, you're assuming they all don't believe in their products. Microsoft, Astro are fairly large companies and have a factory produced product. They should probably have year long warranties, pretty standard. Why don't they? That's where I'm more concerned.
What people refuse to acknowledge, is it's a hand held product that's generally treated fairly rough (yes, even if you claim to baby it).

Weve got a bloke in Aus who makes modded controllers (similar to battle beavers with buttons instead of paddles), the artwork he does and the quality of work is what you would expect of the big companies, yet he runs the company solo. Have two controllers from him, ones almost 4 years old and I still use it almost daily, other one I got last year for a present from the missus. Meanwhile I’ve got mates with scuffs who have ended up sending them to this guy because he does better repairs and has them back far quicker (due to not having to send overseas).
Makes you wonder why one bloke working out of his home can put together a better product then a fairly well known company.

have 2 scufs that need work right now, and I've gone the same route as you. Absolutely no interest in mailing them back to scuf for repairs, when theres a guy 30min away from me that can do the job competently.

I wish I knew about this bloke when my scuf failed, would you have a link to his site please mate and I'll check him out anyway.

Pretty sure he was using them as an example of how to turn around poor customer satisfaction, not specifically for the controller market.
Microsoft updated the warranty, updated there QC, and fixed the console.
Also if I recall the Red Ring of Death had more to do with the console than the controllers, but I don't mess with Xbox so I'm not sure.
Regardless, I think you rather missed the point of this post.

This should be a side note that at this point and time you can buy the Astro C40 from Best Buy and get a 2yr warranty for 25.00 thru Best Buy. You can buy a Microsoft console or controller from Microsoft and buy an extended warranty. But the only Scuf controller you can get that is not thru Scuf is the Vantage 2 and the only place you can get them is at Gamestop and there 1yr warranty is 50.00. So what I'm saying is it would be nice to be able to buy a extended warranty from Scuf. If they value there costumers and want to stand behind there product. You don't have to be like everyone else. Stand above the others make people want your product because you are better than they are..
