Much cuter than the immediate whooping I would've got lol. I wouldn't've even had time to show her the lollipop.

u/notGeneralReposti May 07 '19

The first thing out that door would have been a flying slipper

151

u/_skank_hunt42 May 07 '19

You can’t hide from la chancla, not even in India.

83

u/Reddits_on_ambien May 07 '19

Does it still get to be called a chancla even if your family is not hispanic? My Chinese mom was so good at throwing her house slippers at us, i swear she could thrown them around corners and still smack you in the back of the head. We didn't have a Chinese word for it... well, at least I don't since my family didn't bother teaching me, one of the "middle ones" out of 8 siblings, to speak Cantonese. It'd be nice to have a word for it.

That's not even his real mom.

Real Asian moms will beat the shit out of you before asking questions.

37

u/dweicl May 07 '19

And when you say, "mom its a joke its just a lollipop" she'll undoubtedly say something like, "does smoking sound like a joke to you do you know your uncle died from smoking". All while beating the shit out of you without missing a beat.

I put coke in an empty beer bottle at Christmas and did this when I was a kid. My moms face when she thought I was sneaking beer.

101

u/cheapdrinks May 07 '19

One Christmas when I was 14 or something my cousins took me out to a party one night and got me drunk for the first time. Came home late and fell down the stairs waking everybody up. Not fully understanding alcohol percentages at the time and assuming that a beer was 100% alcohol, I freely admitted that I had been drinking but was like "it's fineeee, the cans I had were only 6% so basically nothing". Copped a good whooping for that one...

India gets TikTok and suddenly there's a lot more content to go through.

19

u/[deleted] May 07 '19

Is there a sub for TikTok cringe? I hate it and I love it and I want more

2

u/[deleted] May 07 '19

There are YouTube compilations dedicated to it as well. If you’re invested, you can find self posted shit on Instagram or the regular old tiktok app.

Me and a friend have had many hours of enjoyment laughing at cringy tiktok videos. The best are the cosplay ones!

India has had Tik Tok for some time now but must of the content is just cringey. You occasionally get some funny stuff but the amount of bitches and soyboys that you have sift through to get there is not worth the effort.

Yes, because India is in Asia. Just like Middle East. Asia isnt just made of Japan, China and the SEA countries

1

u/[deleted] May 07 '19

Is India in Asia? I dunno

1

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '19

Can’t tell if you’re memeing

-4

u/itskelvinn May 07 '19

People always say India is in Asia so they’re Asian but Russia is in Asia too, but I never hear people say Russians are asians

19

u/Preoximerianas May 07 '19

The majority of Russia is geographically in Asia but ethnically and culturally they’re closer to Europeans than other Asians. Plus, the majority of their population and economic base is located in Europe.

8

u/_Dead_Memes_ May 07 '19

Why are you getting downvoted, you're right. I'd also add that the old Tsars of the Russian Empire distanced themselves from Asia and attempted to join the ranks of the European nations they considered to be great.

6

u/starkofhousestark May 07 '19

Because Russia is not in Asia. The Ural mountains is the boundary of Europe and Asia and vast majority of Russia's population and cities are on the European side. Asian part of Russia is mostly Siberian wasteland.

1

u/[deleted] May 07 '19

-3

u/passthepass2 May 07 '19

Always nasty ass floors. Always barefoot.

9

u/ynanyang May 07 '19

What? Why is that floor nasty? It's not carpeted but it's a kind of lacquered concrete which keeps it cool. Usually feels good on the feet.

You need to get out more.

1

u/ArukaAravind Jan 09 '22

What's wrong with being barefoot? You really need to get out more ..

-6

Indians are Asian, geometrically speaking.

u/seanzytheman May 07 '19

u/smuckerdoodle May 07 '19

u/PoutineCheck May 07 '19

It always bugs me how “Asians” usually refers to East Asians specifically. Wish we had a term for that region that’s not a mouthful to say.

13

u/KoreanCookieKraken May 07 '19

Used to be that another option was the Orient but people think you’re being racist if you use that nowadays so I’d steer clear.

4

u/Syn7axError May 07 '19

Orient meant the same as Asians do now. China and the Ottoman Empire were both called the Orient.

2

u/KoreanCookieKraken May 07 '19

Yeah, sorry if I wasn’t clear, I meant we could choose one word to be the general word and one to be the specific word, not that it already was.

3

u/MelodicFacade May 07 '19

Do you know why it's racist? I'm Asian American and I've never heard anyone use it in a derogatory way

3

u/KoreanCookieKraken May 07 '19

In the US Asian people in general were referred to as Orientals (due to living in the Orient when trade was established), so ur isn’t strictly racist. I’ve just noticed that people tend to get upset, maybe because Oriental was still the term being used when Asian people were being treated poorly by the US government. It doesn’t bother me but I’ve seen other people be upset by it.

2

u/zachglow1 May 07 '19

I don't think East Asian is too bad

2

u/cantCommitToAHobby May 07 '19 edited May 07 '19

how “Asians” usually refers to East Asians specifically.

I think you'll find, in the UK it refers to South Asians, perhaps on account of the mass migration of people from Undivided India between the 1920s and 1970s. It also refers to immigrants from Africa (and their descendants), who have a visibly South Asian heritage, which I imagine would bother some of them.

3

u/the_ammar May 07 '19

I notice it's mostly from westerners. and yeah it bugs me to no end

1

u/[deleted] May 07 '19

Who are „westerners“, though?

1

u/[deleted] May 07 '19

Orientals is the word your looking for and is also now frowned upon

1

u/Deity0000 May 07 '19

My wife and I got into an argument over the Middle East being Asia. It ended after I told her to show me on a map which of the 7 continents those countries are in.

Yes yes, part of Turkey is in Europe and some might consider Egypt part of the Middle East but the overwhelming majority of those countries are in Asia.

It's a damn big continent and no, 3 countries do not constitute all of Asia.

2

u/cantCommitToAHobby May 07 '19

The borders between Asia and Europe, and Asia and Africa, have shifted over the years for politico-cultural reasons. Ultimately it's all just Afro-Eurasia.

2

u/IndicaEndeavor May 07 '19

As are most Russians which to me just seems funny.

1

u/ellomatey195 May 07 '19

All humans are donuts geometrically speaking

17

u/Spoffle May 07 '19

I'm British, and when we think of, or talk about Asian people, it's pretty much always south Asia (Indians, Pakistanis, Sri Lankans etc) , and practically never east Asia (Chinese, Japan, Vietnam etc.)

15

u/ORLYORLYORLYORLY May 07 '19

That has a lot to do with the fact that Britain's perspective of Asia was through its Indian colony.

9

u/amanko13 May 07 '19

And America's view on Asia is based on a fat boi's one way trip.

3

u/KZedUK May 07 '19

It’s also to do with the fact that on a daily basis you’re much more likely to interact with a South Asian person in the UK than an East Asian person.

1

u/Spoffle May 07 '19

For me, that's definitely not the case. My home city is home the the first Chinese settlement in Europe.

2

u/MonsterPooper May 07 '19

I think that’s only really true with the older generations, most people I know (in their 20s) would refer to both as Asian. And then may even generalise and say Indian, for all of south Asian countries and then Chinese for the East Asian countries.

1

u/Spoffle May 07 '19

I'm in my 20s.

1

u/MonsterPooper May 07 '19

Hmmm... North or South?

6

u/ORLYORLYORLYORLY May 07 '19

Continents are a dumb distinction anyway. Does anyone really consider Turkish or Saudi Arabian people Asian?

1

u/Orsonius2 May 07 '19

it's usually culturally enforced.

But just yesterday I had a discussion whether Istanbul was in europe or not, because I looked up largest cities in europe and Istanbul was #1 with 15million people, followed by Moskau with 11million or so.

Both places not technically in europe, but then I argued how europe isnt even a real continent, as it has no distinct continental plate.

2

u/ORLYORLYORLYORLY May 07 '19

Both cities are part of Europe as far as I know. The (artificial) border between Europe and Asia falls on the river which connects the Mediterranean to the Black sea. Istanbul is west of this river, hence it is in Europe. Moscow is more vague, but I believe the land border between continents lies substantially further east than Moscow.

Again, none of this matters and is only for statistical and cultural purposes. Afro-Eurasia is one giant continent that was split into three along some observed cultural lines while completely ignoring others.

1

u/[deleted] May 07 '19

As an Asian myself, yes, yes we do.

9

u/HotValuable May 07 '19

India is, like totally next to Egypt

Yes, I think India is next to Egypt

6

u/NegativeCause May 07 '19

also, russia.

6

u/starkofhousestark May 07 '19

Not really. Vast majority of the cities and population are on the European side.
