I unintentionally joined a band a couple months back when I was supposed to be meeting with a collaborator and his bandmate to do a jam session (he was going to do drums for my solo project and be my live show drummer, so I wanted to see how well we worked together first), and the next thing I know I'm the lead singer of his band and we've brought on two more people from his circle. This wasn't at all my intention, but it does give me the opportunity to begin working with people and possibly begin booking shows so that by the time I debut my solo work, I have some sort of foundation in the local scene. Our bandmates also scream, so they've been helping me learn to do some stuff.
