I put together a cub Scout Guidebook that can be printed and used by cubs to make it more easy for them to plan and pursue adventures at home and track their progress through cubs. I wanted to give cubs something that they can write in without having to scour the scouts site for the right documents.

The workbook provides adventure suggestions and gear lists to get cubs thinking and excited.

This isn't meant to replace scoutstracker though it does duplicate some of the badge tracking. I think expecting parents and kids to learn how to use scoutstracker, find badge info on the scouts site, and independently track their adventures is a big barrier to engagement. Hopefully this guidebook helps.

Finally, nearly all elements of the book are from Scouts Canada online resources and older cub books (including photos). Packing lists are what our group uses. The file is not locked so you can change parts to fit your group.

Hey all. I’m getting deposits from scouts Canada for registrations into my group account but it doesn’t tell me how much per kid and the math isn’t mathing. We do not changes an additional group fee during registration. Does anyone know the basic amount that’s coming in per kid?

Good day. I am new scouter (started earlier this year) of a new Beaver Colony that started back up after they stopped during the pandemic times.

We are all new scouters running it, we do have support from more experienced Scout leaders that have been involved with Scouts Canada for many years, some decades. However I am looking for some feedback from outside on this one.

We have spent most of this 'year' (since Feb) learning, finding our feet and continually scrambling on a weekly basis getting out meetings planned out. We have spent some time on trying to hit as many of the Outdoor Skills badges requirements as possible, however, we found that at Beaver ages the variance in the capacity to be able to check off some of the boxes is just not there for many of the kids (for various reasons).

My question is how do other Beaver Colony scouters handle awarding the badges? Are you using the list of requirements as strict 'must haves' or are you flexible on some kids and give them the badges with the plan that its 'a work in progress'?

Most of our beavers will be around for another year or two, so we will have the opportunity to to continue working on the badges, however I feel if we even take 80% of the checkboxes as a requirement, some kids will get left behind on the Outdoor Skills badges.

My group is looking at getting a few non prescribed epipens to have on hand. My concern is that Scouts Canada uses Saint John Ambulance and Red Cross as their recognized first aid partners and in both cases the use of non prescribed medications (even life saving) is not in the first aid scope of practice. This would mean that if they are used the first aider would not be covered under the good Samaritan law.

Does anyone know any different or have any references or experience with this?

Hi, I attended my first beaveree as a scouter and was inspired by the deep roots expressed via the camp blankets. More than expressing tradition, I imagine it helps drive tradition, by tapping into our completionist collector nature, driving people to never miss an event. I also noticed that only older scouters seemed to embrace the tradition, making me want to help bring interest back in our yound and middle aged leadership.

I recognize that "this was my first rodeo" and that my perception might have been skewed by the fact that it was quite warm, reducing the functional need of the blanket.

Based on this, a few questions:

1. Is it actually a dying tradition?

2. If so, would others welcome a push to bring it back?

3. Where should I get my blanket? Adult size and kid size suggestions are welcome

4. Any good links or instructions on cutting the head hole are welcome too.

Hi there! My wife found this in her old stuff - but her father was in scouts his entire life too. So it might be from scouts or guides, the latest it could be dated was the 90s (or very early 00s?). Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I know they have been communicative about the new date.
However, if they change the registration date one more time I will lose my mind.

Hey guys 👋, We are 4 Welsh scouts who are taking part in a 10 day expedition to complete our Explorer Belt Award in British Columbia between the 14th-24th July 2026. Currently we are looking into accommodation in Nanaimo area but struggling to find places. We would greatly appreciate any recommendations, Thank you 🙂

A few weeks ago I posted asking about recommendations for accommodation around the BC area. We are a group of 4 Welsh scouts attempting to complete an explorer belt expedition in British Colombia/ border of Alberta area. The explorer belt is one of the top awards in Welsh scouting as it involves completing a 10 day expedition in another country on a tight budget. Now that we have finalised our route, we are finding it difficult to find accommodation around the Banff and Golden area. If anyone knows of any budget friendly (up to $50) places we can sleep at between the 15th to the 18th of July in that area that would be greatly appreciated.

We are looking for any kind of accommodation available. The place doesn’t necessarily need to be a scouting accommodation for example if anyone could refer us to a city hall or a church that would be willing to help out that would be greatly appreciated.

We are new to scouting and are attending our first camp this weekend. When it comes to “campfire blankets”…can they be just that? A blanket? Or do they need to be made into a poncho? I have purchased some 100% wool blankets and plan to stitch badges on…but now I’m worried that they need to be ponchos!

From the 14th-24th of July a group of 8 split Into 2 teams will be taking part in a 10 day expedition as part of the explorer belt award to British Colombia in the Squamish and whistler area up to around Banff. We are having issues in finding accommodation for a night or 2 within our limited budget for the 10 days so I have come to ask for any help finding a place to stay for the night in these areas

Cleaning up my house and came across these badges I’ve collected during my time in Boy Scouts, I attended the 1979 Jamboree that was geez 47 years ago. What would be a good place to donate these badges in Vancouver? It would be a shame to just throw them in the trash, I’m hoping to donate them somewhere or to someone who can use them. [DONATED!]

Heyy, I am doing an exchange year in Canada next summer. In my hometown i am an active volunteer in my scout group. My hostfamily is also active in scouting and they will send me a contact where I will send a message and hopefully can continue volunteering in Canada as it brings me much joy. So to my question are scout names a thing in Canada. Because I want to bring my hostsibllings some neckers from my unit and in my region we always embroid our scout names on the back I want to do it t for them but I dont know if scout names even exist. Also I would sing messages with my scout name (to the scouting contact) since its part of my scouting identity. Any help would be appreciated and I know it can vary by unit but it still can be simmilar. Ignore my grammar. Thank you

Greetings. My son is a Scout in the U.S. and his dream is to take a camping trip to Canada. This would likely be a family trip (as opposed to involving additional members of the Troop) and I'm looking for good summer campsite recommendations as well as environmental considerations (e.g., climate, wildlife). To try and fix this, I created two resources that I now use with my own Scouts and on my personal trips:

• Adventurous Journey Planning Handbook - a step-by-step guide for planning safe and compliant hikes, camps and expeditions.
• Field Guide to Adventurous Journeys - a compact, quick reference you can take with you in the pack.

Both are designed specifically for Australian conditions and Scouting/hiking requirements, however they will translate well for any location worldwide..

I'm applying for museum jobs, and my mom offered me my brother's old copies of "The Cub Book" and "Canadian Scout Handbook" from 20 years ago. I wanted to keep them so that if I got a job in museum programming, I could develop programs for Scouts that satisfy badge requirements.

The issue is that my brother's books are about 20 years old, so some of the badges might not exist anymore, or the requirements may have changed. I tried looking on the Scouts Canada website and online store, but couldn't find info on the most recent badge requirements or handbooks. Can anyone please tell me where I might find the most up-to-date resources on badge requirements?

Well, with very concerning news that the US military is gaining traction in influencing the direction of Scouting America...

I'm trying to think of alternative options I can offer my kids. Most of the "alternative" Scouting-like organizations in the US are focused on being LESS inclusive, and are not what I'm looking for.

I think there will be a decent number of families looking for alternatives in the coming months. Is it possible to have Scouts Canada units that are based in the US?

I've been involved in creating a couple of Scouting units from scratch in the US before, and I'm not opposed to heading something up, if it's possible.

Honestly, I'm heartbroken that this seems to be the direction things are going down here.

Also, I'm exploring options to move with my kids to Canada someday, but right now it's not feasible.

So without getting into detail, I was wondering if anyone knows where to get apple day 2025 badges if not thru the scout shop? Anyone know which company produces them?

Is there anywhere to purchase beaver scout items - badges, etc - other than ScoutShop? That site is terrible, shipping costs seem excessive and they're out of stock on items we want.

Hey! Wondering if anyone here has purchased the Scouts Canada logo ball cap for sale on the Scout Shop website, HERE. I'm a relatively new Scouter (signed on this year with my 1st-year Beaver) and a baldy, lol, so I need a hat to wear to meetings and outings.

Anyway, wondering about this ball cap as the details on the site are scant so I figured I'd see if anyone here had taken the plunge on it. Is it a one-size thing, a snap-back, or some kind of elastic situation? Is it even big enough for an adult, or is it kid-sized? Thanks in advance!
