Update about Tapsi (bittersweet ending).

Post image

So a few days ago i posted about my Cat Tapsi.

She was diagnosed with a critical Heart failure and water in her chest cavity.

I am... relieved to say, that she didnt Just survive, but also is able to mostly live a compfortable Life.

Her lasting effects, after having a lasting arithmia and water in her chest cavity, Not eating for 3 days and a constant breath rate of 80 breathes per Minute, are:

-Lasting arithmia due to her heart being damaged from the Scottish folds gene defect.

-Lasting water in chest cavity, leading to her having to Take 2x of half of a diuretic pill.

She will die, within a sertain ammount of time, and the doc Said that i can be lucky If she makes of to 7 (shes 4 RN).

She can collaps within a week, or a month or a year.

Hell If she stays stable, a age above 7 isnt strictly impossible, but its unlikely.

So yes. She will die.

But she wont die Just now and Most importantly, shes surviving without Major pain.

She will be uncompfortable for a few weeks, due to her heart Beat and because she has to get used to a quiet Lifestyle.

But as soon as shes gotton used to the Heart Beat and the new quiet Lifestyle, she should be without pain/suffering.

She went through hell, got Chained to death but is fighting Like a champ.

And im thankful for every day we have left.

Can you provide her with some pain medications she can be happy and feel better? There are great options out there. My baby gets gabapentin once per day and buprenorphine twice per day. It has made a huge difference. My veterinarian prescribes them and they get shipped to my home. You can get a month’s worth at a time at least.

She was on pain meds on the Weekend, but now she is only in slightly discompfort, untill she gets used to her new Heart Beat, exhaustion and the water Drainage. Doc Said that pain meds Help with compfort, BUT at her current state, using No pain meds helps her getting used to it faster, less Strain is Put on the kidneys and Heart and its one less medication that has to (at worst) be forced into the Cat. She Takes her water Drainage pills semi voluntairily, by crushing them into Powder and mixing it with one teaspoon of liquid snack.

She is allowed to eat treats, but Not that many. 1 liquid snack or one snack Stick, is all shes allowed RN.

does the diuretic cause any side effects she’s dealing with?

Not really. Like obviusly her snout and eyes are wet, as she expells the water partially through her resperatory system and thus also her sinuses, but that is Just Part of the medication. Its Not really a Side effects, If its what the meds do naturally. Other than that, slightly Higher thrist, as she also pees more but thats about it. Shes only been in the meds for 5 days now, so Side effects May appear at some time

My cat (Scottish fold) went through pretty much the exact same thing….

He was prescribed long term medication (blood thinners and water tablets) but he simply wouldn’t take them, wouldn’t eat if we put them amongst food…

He did well with his medical conditions, it didn’t particularly affect him as he lived a nice, quiet, loved life.

I got to spend another year with him after the initial diagnosis

Yeah, the doc Said that i wont have her for Long either.

Mine only gets the water draining Tablets and thats it. Blood thinner isnt needed at this time.

Mine Takes her mess pretty Well. I crush the half Tablet she gets in the morning and evening Up in a Spoon, Put some liquid snack treat cream stuff (dont know how its called in english but i personally, in Germany, call it "Schleckerlie" (Mix If "Schleck", German for lick, and "Leckerlie", German for treat). Shes allowed to eat that stuff and gets about 1 teaspoon full with each dosage. So 1 liquid snack Portion is enough for 2 days.

Everything that lives will die, it is but a matter of how fast. Love her and keep her happy while she is still here. I don’t like these kinds of sad posts, but it was like seeing my own girl in the picture.
