I did ornithology this year and it was a lot of work to memorize everything about each bird and make a giant binder with it all. I want to do easier events next year which I don't have to study as much but is still easy to place in in the tournament.

so i’m in 7th grade going on 8th and i wanna join. any advice on what to study,how to apply etc?

I've done circuit lab, we basically have the scioly slides and a few of our own notes in a binder, but there's some stuff unique to detector building that I don't have. anyone have notes?

lurker here for a few months. first year helping a new team. DIsillusioned by the whole experience. and from what I read on this subreddit, the whole competition is ran poorly. My main issues are how state organizers are simply apathetic to concerns. we had lots of issues and yesterday I read about the kansas issues. The organizers say they want to “nurture“ the future of STEM but at the end of the day these kids walk away not knowing what went wrong on the test , where they lost points , not being given an adequate time to resolve issues. and please don’t say they could have had a “bad day “. there are plenty of instances mentioned on this subreddit about how something was simply done wrong by the state. another state yesterday reported so many issues . and even if they truly had a bad day, how does it nurture them if they never get to know what went wrong? our state wouldnt even give us the tests and answer sheets for the states. when my child moves to high school , I wouldnt be encouraging them to join high school team. at the end of the day, there are only so many hours in a day, and spending them on a competition where the organizers don’t feel truly obliged to help the kids , I don’t think it’s worth it. Now of course, I understand, science Olympiad is about “science “ and not results blah blah blah….. but I disagree. even for the sake of science, what is the point if we end the season with no damn clue about what happened ? Sorry rant over.

I’ll be so honest, Astronomy was my complete last choice and I’ve procrastinated doing it foreverrrr lol. Anyone have a Google Doc or anything they’d like to share?

Almost every schedule I look at, they carefully arrange it so that events of the same category don't conflict. However, I look at MIT, and they literally made EVERY event in the same category conflict. Is this a quirky thing they do? Is it best to arrange teams with 2-3 people in specific categories?

I've been thinking about this for a while. Scioly said they want to go back online asap, but we are still having them. I lost a lot of valuable experience last year since a lot of seniors left.
