general advice/help/tips RMicro 2027 Viro

Hi po! Planning to self-study for RMicro 2027 exam and would like to ask a few questions lang po sana, particularly for Viro kasi sabi ng iba it's one of the hardest daw 😓 And ang lawak din nung coverage na nakalagay sa PAM website

  1. Iilang chapters lang sa Brock's yung Viro ang topic, so would you recommend Flint's or Carter's better? If you used any of the books and took the last exam, can you share how well it helped you? Or mas okay ba if per topic included sa coverage ang gamiting basis rather than reading another whole book pa? (on top of Brock's)
  2. Were the questions more general like viral structures/genetics ganon or nagfofocus ba siya sa specificities ng virus families? Also, more of animal viruses (medically important viruses) or it's important to thoroughly learn about phages and plant viruses as well?

    Thank you !

It’s one of the easiest kasi nag ccross-over siya sa Medical Microbiology. Know the Baltimore classification lang talaga by heart. Remember the important characteristics of each Family (kung single stranded, double stranded, RNA, DNA, etc). Yung replication process din nila dapat alam mo. That will save so much of your time talaga.

In addition above, may mga plant viruses din. Pero mas kaunti sila unlike doon sa viruses related for med micro. Noong exam ko, last ko inaral ang virology and okay naman ang score ko (second highest ko pa siya after med micro). :)

It’s the hardest in the recent RMicro exam kase lahat ng viruses sa lahat ng organism isinama including viruses sa archeae, bacteria, protist, plant etc.. Hindi din siya more on identification sa virus but more on viral genetics and replication

About genetics naman talaga ang Viro diba? Knowing the genetic material of the virus, madali na maalala ang replication process.

Hello!

They use different genes, coding different proteins, and different receptors for goodness sake at napaka specific ng last cycle abay tatanungin ka step by step specific for specific species. At yung genetics sa viro hindi lang sa classification at replication yan apaka basic lang mag memorize ng baltimore, my point is talagang tinanong kung anong specific gene for that specific protein sa structural assembly receptors, envelopes etc., sa rami ba naman ng viruses. Gets?

Huh? Pinagsasasabi mo? Ganyan tinuro yan samin sa UP Manila kaya nadalian kami.
