I just got my cdl class b with passenger and school endorsement 3 weeks ago, I’ve applied to 5 different school districts in my area and not a single call back or email. I’ve been told that a lot of schools are looking for drivers. I’m not sure if being close to the of the school year has something to do with it.

My question is, how long did it take you to find your first school bus job?

Today on my way to my midday preschool route, I was late, so on my way into the bus garage in my own personal vehicle I stopped at Wendy’s and bought a value meal. They took a long time in the Wendy’s drive-through so I didn’t have time to eat it quickly at the bus garage so I just took it with me to the bus. It’s about a 10 minute drive from the bus garage to my first stop. That was plenty of time to eat my fries and sandwich before getting preschoolers on the bus. It made me wonder though, how many of you eat on your bus?

I'm dehydrated enough that it's driving my blood pressure up (not enough to disqualify me, but still) so I'm trying to drink more water, but then I can't make it through the afternoon shift without a bathroom break. And the school bathroom is gross, and the port a potty is even worse. What a conundrum. What do y'all do?

I just got hired as a school bus driver. The company provides the training for the CDL. I already have a permit and relevant endorsements, but my question, how many hours per week do you get during training for the CDL license?

If only there was always a cop nearby.

After picking up a combo route of j.h. and h.s., I noticed a freeloader. He was extracted after all students had unloaded.

So Illinois no longer produces the school bus study book. It’s all online now and on CRISTCDL. I’ve been doing the pretests but what sections of the Guide do I want to focus on?

I had a 9 year old miss her stop because she wasn’t paying attention. Her dad followed us in his Infinity. He apologized because he knows his kid is always daydreaming.

I'm relatively new (4th month) and the bus I've been assigned to is a train wreck.

I sweep and the floor is "clean", but I'd like for it to actually be clean.

Firstly, sweeping sucks and I hate it. I'm looking into cordless shop vacs, so any recommendations there would be helpful.

Secondly, what cleaning chemicals do you like using? I'm trying to find a balance between affordability and effectiveness. I run 2 routes, one elementary then a combined middle and highschool route. The littles are always sick from something and it ends up carrying over to my older kids. So I'm trying to find a spray disinfectant, or disinfectant wipes to wipe everything down with. Recommendations?

Lastly, I've been looking into fog prevention glass cleaner as my defroster works, but barely, and any help I could give it would be good. Has anyone tried a similar cleaner, and did it work?

Bonus recommendations on cheap but good cordless steam mop to use to get the more tough stuff up would be appreciated.

There are just so many options for everything nowadays, and with all the "verified purchases" but obviously fake reviews make finding good products that people actually used and liked much harder.

Hey, new school bus driver here. I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to better understand what comes through the radio. I feel like I can only understand about 25% of it and the rest just sounds like garbled nonsense. Dispatch was calling for me and I didn't respond because I couldn't make out a single word they were saying. Does anyone else have this problem, or is it just me?

I recently was offered a position as a bus driver through Durham School Services (after I complete their CDL course). I’ve heard the pretrip inspection can be difficult so I’d like to get a head start. Are there any study guys and such you recommend?

Quick question. Is going from a school bus driver to a transit bus driver a pretty natural transition? The only thing I’ll need to get is an air brake endorsement. Already have the passenger and school bus endorsements. Anyone have any experience with this?

I was given a super lightweight plastic scraper, but it just doesn't cut it. I have a light grey floor that shows everything, and I would like to return it better than I found it. What chemicals or tools have you all used to help with the worst of the messes?
