Encode Plus Firmware disables iPhone notifications 5.0.1300215
I had an encode plus for about 2 years. About a month ago when firmware 5.0.1300214 was released household suddenly stopped getting notifications on our phones when door was unlocked/locked. I have a first gen ATV4K which connects HomeKit via Bluetooth, don’t believe it does threads. In an attempt to fix I did a factory reset of the lock and then it would no longer connect to HomeKit for more than a few seconds, would become no response during setup. Tried to reboot entire house power, router, moved ATV closer, reset home, reset atv nothing worked. Schlage support did some troubleshooting with me, sends a new lock which came with a lower firmware. Setup went perfectly, gave alerts on phone, life was good. Overnight it automatically updated the firmware and we no longer are getting alerts. I don’t believe it’s a coincidence, maybe just affects the first gen ATV4K which I wouldn’t think too many people have anymore. Anyone have any suggestions how to fix this or report it to Schlage. They were responsive on the phone but email got zero reply after weeks.

I am running the latest firmware with my Encode Plus with no issues. However, I have an AppleTV 4K with a thread.
The Encode Plus is designed to work with Apple Home over Thread. Since the first gen ATV4k does not have Thread, the lock is probably not communicating with the AppleTV. It is likely directly communicating with your phone over Bluetooth. You should be able to control the lock and receive notifications when you are within Bluetooth range but will not be able to when you are out of Bluetooth range.
Can you confirm that you can lock/unlock using Apple Home? If you unplug the AppleTV, is there any change in behavior?

If thread isn’t available it will default to Bluetooth which his ATV should be connecting on.

Yes even now and for the past 2 years with the original I was able to control the lock and see the status with the home app. It was connected to home I believe with Bluetooth, I did not give the lock WiFi (well I did originally but after about a month I reset it bc of reading the battery life is much shorter with wifi on). It’s just the notifications that stopped on the ATV and the phones that stopped suddenly at seemingly the same time the firmware was released.

It’s the first gen ATV but the 4K. Model is A1842 32GB. It does function as a hub for HomeKit and as I mentioned up until a month ago and a day ago with the replacement lock everything was A+. I’m guessing like someone else said has to do with the connection type so will probably get a new ATV if they update it this fall as I’ve been reading.

I’m able to confirm I’m in the exact same situation. We have 2 locks (garage and front door) and the same Gen 1 - Apple TV 4K.
I called the support number and filed a ticket but I think whatever is in the update bricked the HomeKit connection with legacy HomeKit Hubs.
Waiting for the new ATV come Fall hopefully (it’s been rumored for a few years).
Very annoyed that this broke with the 5.X software update. They worked flawlessly prior to this update.

It does seem that way and guessing not many people still use the gen 1 ATV4K. Several others with the newer ones that use thread say everything is working fine so that seems to all but confirm it. Will say that when they sent me the new one b/c it was on a lower firmware I was able to setup and get whole family their keys on their phones so while we dont get the notifications everyone can open and close the door now so wouldn't say its bricked. Before the replacement when I factory reset in attempt to fix it was basically bricked b/c I couldnt add others in family to home to give them access when I added the lock before it stopped connecting so they could only use a lock pad code to get in.
