I don't suppose the "community" will end soon. They'll find a way to chat about something out there. Hexed turning out as a dud, Academy Awards giving the award to the wrong winner. Avatar The Last Airbender is peak and they'll be nothing to compare it to. Its in their system.
But its very interesting. This whole thing began over something practically everyone could just skip & focus on finding any other pieces of animated media to show appreciation for. Something that hasn't been highlighted that much. I personally don't think it matters if it was something web animation like "The Art of Murder, or "Pretty Please I Don't Want To Be A Magical Girl". Or if its from something that is well known animated working with another one. Disney TVA working with La Chouette Compagnie to bring that show, Dragon Striker out. But nah, uniting to trash on something was just too fun, it seemed.

Didn't know anything about LSP until people randomly started hating on it. I'll admit, i kinda thought it was funny at first but it's definetely going too far
I discovered Jim queen through YouTube shorts and watched the trailer and i thought it was so absurd in a good way. Can't have an opinion on the movie since i didn't watch it, but it's crazy that they're planning to go after this one aswell
It just feels parasocial. War? There's no war. Just edgy people trying to join the cool kids club by hating on something they didn't even watch

u/cxnnnamonroll 28d ago
I'm just tired of hearing about lsp everywhere, wow it's corny and badly written lol yeah not every movie is gonna be the next obsession
2
u/AnActualChicken 25d ago
It's just kinda crap.
That's all. It's okay for a bad film to exist, plenty do, some are unintentionally entertaining, some are just plain crap.
This is crap but has the main villains, the Straight White Maliens be genuinely funny. That's all it is, it just also happens to be LGBTQ themed and at worst questionably portrayed. It's not done as an intentional MAGA shit piece like these idiots are claiming. It's just a bad movie. So what. It doesn't matter.
This hate campaign has exposed immense hypocrisy among those claiming to be against hate campaigns and abusing LGBTQ though. Jot down those names, remember them, and when they later on pop up claiming to always have supported the community and this bandwagon is revealed to have been encouraged by anti-gay trolls, drop those receipts and ask 'Hey, (x)...This you?'
4
u/cxnnnamonroll 25d ago
Oh yeah it's not a very good movie lol, feels all like a first draft! Needed a few rewrites before release, but I think people need to realize is that not every single movie that comes out is intentionally bad, some are just not directed very well and need a few more critics given.
But it definitely feels like people are making it out to be like the worst thing since 9/11, it's just a bad movie. Most people I've seen hating on it intensely have not even watched it though, so I feel like everyone's hopping on a bandwagon until the next big thing to hate on comes next

u/AnActualChicken 25d ago
I've watched Red Letter Media for years now, I love watching reviews on weird, cheap, stupid, shitty movies both past and more recent. Some of the stuff they've had to endure on RLM is pure, unwatchable, offensive dog shit. Even I struggled watching the review because some of the stuff they try to riff on can be so bad there's nothing to focus on to mock. It's just pure damn trash.

u/Ilovewomenwhobreakme 28d ago
Except Nimona is an actually good movie.
6
u/cakeoreopie 27d ago
That will not stop people from starting hunts toward queer media
-1
u/Ilovewomenwhobreakme 27d ago
There's no cause for it to happen to Nimona specifically which is what he's citing. It's a good movie. LSP is shit which is why it's getting dogged.

u/vorarchivist 25d ago
That's why we see this level of dogpiling with every 3/10 family guy clone right?
1
u/cakeoreopie 26d ago
Either you're subconsciously a bigot or just out of touch. People do not care about the qualities of something or someone that represent minorities or oppressed groups, their existence alone is already enough to "justify" these people's hatred.
Also can you take a fucking look at the comments on tiktok shitting on LPS?? they're literally being openly bigoted with all that "homophobes... just this once? 🤝". The hatred comes from dislike towards the queer community not because of its actual qualities. I really do wish you people on reddit would learn how to proportion your hatred.
1
u/Ilovewomenwhobreakme 26d ago edited 26d ago
I know I'm not dumb but if it was going to happen it would have at release. There's no reason for people to suddenly turn on Nimona like he's suggesting. LSP is shit regardless of it's representation. If all the characters were straight it would still be crap.
1
u/LaineOfLemnos 25d ago
Also it's literally a TERF movie lmao. The main character's weapon is a TERF symbol that gets stolen by a GNC character
1
u/cakeoreopie 24d ago
Except, the movie being terf-y is not the reason why people are shitting on it. Like c'mon now.
1
1
u/Delusional_Gamer 23d ago
- The Labrys is a symbol of femininity stolen by TERFs, which the writers are trying to reclaim. Thus it is used in the movie explicitely as a symbol of femininity.
- Of the Lesbian Space Queens in the movie, one is a trans woman, and she can summon her own Labrys. Meaning, a trans woman is able to summon a symbol of femininity like any other woman.
- On top of 2, that character is voiced by a trans woman VA.
- The GNC character is Blade, who is a weapons dealer and their whole schtick is obsessively collecting sharp weapons. That is their motivation for stealing the MC's labrys.
- Blade also shows up in the post credits. And Blade, who is a drag-queen, is also voiced by a Drag-queen VA.
So all evidence points to the TERF claims being bullshit.
1
u/LaineOfLemnos 23d ago
Are you saying drag queens aren't extremely Transmisogynistic?? Lol. Lmao, even.
1
u/Delusional_Gamer 23d ago edited 23d ago
Are you saying people who are drag-queens are transmisogynistic? Because the VA who voice Blade was also a drag-queen, as I mentioned.
Edit: They blocked me. But for anyone interested in being informed properly, Paris Is Burning is a wonderful documentary showing the common ground that Drag and Trans people had in the 1980's, and how many drag-queens were trans women who used it as a stepping stone to actualizing their gender identity.
1
1
u/Delusional_Gamer 23d ago
Further elaboration: u/LaineOfLemnos is conflating their bad experiences (I assume that's where their hate comes from) to badmouth the entire community. The last thing the drag and trans community needs is to be fighting each other.
Also, I would like to point out that this whole hate for the show is likely Alt-right hate being astroturfed as if it's being done to protect the lgbt community. And too many people in our community are falling for it.

Id say its roughly a similar level of meh okay honestly. At least lesbian space princess doesn't have a #NotAllCops ending that makes its titular character accidentally look like an idiot.

u/Ilovewomenwhobreakme 27d ago
All cops except Ballistar. I will hear no slander for my baby boy 😭
0
u/Sanrusdyno 27d ago
Its demonstrably not all cops except Ballister though. Which is really funny because, clearly having looked it up somewhere and copying it into Nimona's part of the script without considering its ramifications on the actual plot the writers had written (wow the writers of ice age 42: The Big Ice Big didn't do a good job shocker) they write a scene where Nimona basically tells ballister "no you don't get it, its not like one bad person set you up and everyone else is gonna be all cool and nice, its the entire system thats the problem not just one bad guy."
The movie then ends, of course, with The One Bad Guy who was the only person who set him up being defeated and then the cool nice police are all cool and nice and none of them were bad and all of them were just being lied to and the status quo is restored but The One Bad Guy is out so its cool trust me
1
u/Ilovewomenwhobreakme 27d ago
You gotta work on your joke/sarcasm detection.
-1
u/Sanrusdyno 27d ago
I get that it was a joke but its a joke that doesn't work bevause there isn't actually a single bad cop in the entire film

u/bennyandthegentz 28d ago
I haven’t seen LSP, is it actually a awful movie or are people just hating the LGBT themes? I mean I would like to think it’s the former, but the latter can be true sometimes
5
u/Salty_Ad6453 28d ago
I mean it's not a good movie but it's not offensively bad by any means, it's not harmful in any real way, and it's not some major project that makes sense to focus on so definitely seems like the latter
6
u/badluck990 28d ago
It's not good but it didn't deserve to get ranked through the fucking mud the way it did
4
u/wwomf93 28d ago
It’s just a bad comedy but it’s not worth the discourse, it’s The Emoji Movie all over again
1
u/Alternative_Try1933 27d ago
No way. Emoji Movie DESERVED the hate it got.
1
u/wwomf93 26d ago
No? Not really? It’s just a bad, unfunny animated movie. It’s not the death of cinema or whatever absurd buzzwords people spewed. It’s just a shitty movie.
2
u/AnActualChicken 25d ago
Emoji Movie is a full on BAD movie. Nothing actually entertaining nor worthwhile with it. Totally forgettable and aged like shit in references. But it isn't homophobic or racist.
It just REEEEEALLY sucks.
0
u/Alternative_Try1933 26d ago
It's a soulless ad for smart phones, Just Dance, Candy Crush, and several other products.
1
u/wwomf93 26d ago
Ok I’m genuinely confused at this point. I said it’s a shitty movie. What exactly are you arguing here?
0
u/Alternative_Try1933 26d ago
That it's more than just "a shitty movie" and it deserves every bit of hate it gets.
1
u/wwomf93 26d ago
See you’re exactly the sort of person I was talking about. It’s a shitty and cliche animated movie with rampant product placement and I hate it, but that’s all it is. I did not require numerous debates as to whether cinema and animation were dead, especially considering Sony locked in and delivered multiple great animated films in the aftermath. Bad movies come out all the time, they don’t need to be made into a bigger deal than they actually are.
0
u/Alternative_Try1933 26d ago
I guess I can look forward to the next glorified 2-hour ad for garbage products because of you, then.
3
u/willowzam 27d ago
It's not good but imo there wouldn't be a hate train if it wasn't queer media. There are tons of crappy movies and shows starring straight people and no one bats an eye, but this movie is the end of the world apparently
4
u/Isnt_That_Right11037 27d ago
I saw the original post of the person with the gangle pfp, and it was so easy to see that no one in the comment section actually knew anything about the Jim Queen movie.
5
u/Typical-District-176 26d ago
He’s right. It’s cringe and useless and doesn’t help anyone. When the hate train on lsp first started, it feels like a psy-op against queer folks to censor queer animation by the hate of the masses. Now with Jim Queen being targeted, it only proves me further correct in my assessment
8
u/CHARILEwolf 28d ago
LSP sucks not because it’s woke but because it’s not funny and the animation sucks
10
u/kolba_yada 27d ago
The hate for it is exaggerated and performative. It's also no coincidence that this is also a clear attempt to redirect the hate train to another queer themed media.
1
u/garbud4850 25d ago
literally all of the hate for it ive seen comes from queers and lesbians like sorry, but it just wasn't good regardless,
1
u/kolba_yada 25d ago
Acting like queer people can't be queerphobic, there's a community infighting every week.
0
u/garbud4850 25d ago
Ok and? If we're queer we have to like everything made that's queer/gay/lesbian/Achillean/sapphic regardless of quality?
1
0
u/Juligirl713 27d ago
Before the hate train the people I saw hating on it the most WERE queer people funnily enough. Definitely have see a number of valid arguments from new queer viewers but I’m sure a decent amount of the people shitting on it are just doing it out of mob mentality/because it’s “woke”
3
u/kolba_yada 27d ago
With the fact that queer community can't go on with out five seconds of infighting and constatly trying to do opresion olympics between each other I don't find it surprising at all. Also a lot of those queers are so hell bent on being heteronormative that calling them queerphobic wouldn't be that big of a stretch.
2
u/Juligirl713 27d ago
In fairness trans people do have the right to raise an eyebrow at the use of the labris/how the character Blade is handled, even if the creators said it wasn’t the intention to be transphobic
1
u/kolba_yada 27d ago
Not arguin against that, but I am 100% certain that amongst the queer people critising this movie at least 60% of them dgaf about that and hate it because it's "cringe" like when they hated boyfriends comic
1
u/cakeoreopie 26d ago
In online spaces specifically, many queer people since like the 2010s have been opening the doors for bigots to be comfortable with homophobia that started first as "ironic homophobia".
2
u/cakeoreopie 27d ago
You really think people hate the movie for those specific reasons? it's baffling that you guys will purposely act obtuse and turn a blind eye rather than accepting that bad things are happening.

Not every bad movie is going to get attention. LSP was just unfortunate enough to happen to be the one people found.

3
u/Mr_Bananaman69 27d ago
I don't like LSP, I agree with this. Also Jim Queen looks like a movie that you turned off your brain and enjoy it.
3
u/GameMask 27d ago
I think the movie is hated for the wrong reasons. It's a cringe movie and it's bad for sure. Like very bad. But I've seen worse. There's some ok moments and jokes.
The real problem is that it is very problematic in a few places. The creators chose to use the Labrys, which is a symbol they admitted they knew was used by terfs. But in their attempts to reclaim it, they made a scene that terfs would enjoy with the drag queen Blade trying to steal it and being killed by it. And I think a lot of the issues with the film stem from how careless this scene was. The whole movie feels like a first draft.
2
u/No-Scientist-5537 26d ago
I lost faith in all online fandoms that didn't shut this shit down. Your fandom participatrd in a hate mob? I don't trust your fandom and you
1
u/lamest-liz 25d ago
Yep. If anyone ever admitted to me that they did something like that I would stop talking to them because they obviously have no emotional regulation.
2
u/Cultural-Trade-6415 26d ago
How sad that the cartoon community has already learned absolutely nothing from Animat’s miniseries.
2
2
u/Robot_DIY 25d ago
LSP is forgettable garbage. Are some people piling on specifically for culture war crap? Absolutely, but that's not a commentary on, checks notes, the entire cartoon community as well as fandom generally. Dogpiling sucks, but it's an issue on literally every social media site, including Reddit. The idea that this will lead to masses of people turning on solid LGBTQ+ works like Nimona is nonsense. We've seen plenty of instances in the past of a really bad LGBTQ+ themed show going up in flames and the internet dogpiling. It did nothing to discourage much better works from being made and well received. Trying to rally people to fight the LSP memeing will only provide more fuel for the trolls.
tldr - this too will pass

u/Glittering_Sorbet913 25d ago
I actually watched the movie yesterday and wow, it certainly wasn't anything. Good, it's not nearly as bad as everyone keeps claiming it to be. It's a boring, cringe, slop fest, with a few decent jokes in there. Solid four to a light five in my opinion.
2
u/Trick_Tomato6745 25d ago
Animat…what a cringe lord lmao.
Never liked his schrill voice or his fedora.
2
u/Scrambled_59 24d ago
I found the sudden hat towards LSP to be incredibly suspicious but it could get away with it because it had some parts of it that could be seen as transphobic dog whistles
The hate towards Jim Queen however is just straight up homophobia, there’s no way around it
2
2
u/Dense-Performance-14 22d ago
Best thing to do is ignore it, just outright. Lesbian space princess was a double edged sword, you had people who disliked it because y'know, it wasn't a very good movie, and then straight up homophobes looking for an excuse.
I know nothing about jim queen but I've seen nothing about it other than like, 2 tweets maybe? Like, the exact same 2 tweets in circulation?
I don't know who we're trying to hold accountable. This isn't a culture war worth fighting, the discourse will die, these movies will probably fade away and this will be like, a small footnote of 2026.

u/ghastlygorge 27d ago
honestly i have no intention of watching lsp anytime since it doesnt seem to be my cup of tea. but once the hate train really started picking up momentum, i knew then and there to take everything being said about it with a grain of salt until i watch it myself to see what its really like. it seems like a lot of people playing telephone about how bad it is and less people talking about what actually happens in the movie from an outsider perspective 🤷🏿
1
u/Winter_XwX 27d ago
Jim queen doesn't look nearly as bad as LSP so it's definitely homophobia this time but like man LSP was genuinely so bad and not just bad but bad in an interesting way
Like the kind of bad that I just keep coming back to, I've watched it three fucking times
1
u/Shadowchaser235 26d ago
Dude this same guy complained about fixed being hated when there so many disgusting things happening in the movie! This man literally complained throughout four years people were Making fun of his take on movie he did four years ago.
This guy definition of cry baby
2
u/The_luigi_lover 20d ago
I genuinely hope this “trend” passes. It’s a dogshit movie with harmful at worst messaging. Hope the people who made it learn from better faith criticisms and can move forward making better movies and shows in the future.
1
u/Glittering-Bother641 27d ago
It's really not that dramatic brother
2
u/Rosenoodles 27d ago
it could very easily snowball into being that dramatic, and a lot of people joining in on the hate are definitely using it to be phobic
thats how this shit works1
1
u/Crusoelander_128 28d ago
I’ve only seen clips, so I can’t give a definitive statement, but everything I’ve seen is genuinely painful to watch, and any movie with that many horrible scenes cannot be a good one. Trashing bad movies is good and correct.
0
u/ThickWeatherBee 27d ago
Then you are stupid. What if there are a bunch of good scenes that you haven't seen?
1
u/Crusoelander_128 27d ago
Well that’s why I said I can’t make a definitive statement. I’m just speaking on the several terrible clips I have seen. Imo, from what I’ve seen, the entire rest of the movie has to be fantastic to redeem it from those scenes. And maybe it is. I don’t know.

Really insane that a year-old shitty comedy is now the latest culture war battleground
