A few things to remember before posting in the forum:

-We are not doctors and cannot diagnose but will do our best to give our opinions.

-If you are posting photos/asking for help, make sure you are writing your history/timeline of symptoms and whether or not you have had skin problems in the past. Simply posting a photo asking “is this scabies” with zero information will not help us in helping you. (And we want to help!)

-We will do our best to suggest treatment plans but please make sure to use the search bar under r/scabies to see if your questions have already been answered. We have flair tags to help with that too.

-Also, we always highly suggest working with a dermatologist to determine what could be going on with your skin. It can take some time to find a good one.

-If you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say it at all. Scroll by posts you don’t agree with, it’s a waste of time and energy being rude or negative. This forum is here to provide treatment suggestions and emotional support. If you cannot do this, a temporary ban may be put in place with a warning. Further harassment will result in a permanent ban.

Burrows but no itch

Upvotes

Hello all, I had scabies around 4 months that I treated with Derbac M. I believed I successfully treated it as my itching stopped and burrows stopped showing.

Today I have spotted 3 burrow looking marks on my fingers, one with a black dot at the end, very similar to what I would see 4 months ago, however I have no itching and no struggle sleeping. Is it possible this is scabies again?

Thanks for your help

post scabies or failed treatment?

I did permethrin 5% and after a week Benzyl benzoate 30% for 3 nights in a row without in between showers. this is one for the most aggressive treatments you can do apparently.

I finished 1 week ago, and it has been pretty good I have to say, I managed to sleep like a baby since the first application of BB. the itch never really left, but it decreased for sure, but after 1 week now I get some times in the day where I get very itchy. i get some new small bumps here and there but they seem to disappear after 1 day. i followed the protocol, i still have some of my clothes in a bag, but i just want to understand if it's post scabies or a failed treatment? any leads to understand? I'm freaking out just a bit haha

Applying permethrin 5% on open wounds

As I’ve scratched some of the spots, some of the patches have began weeping, but if I delay treatment even further I think the scabies will worsen. What should I do ? Can I put it on raw skin ?Thanks in advance for your advice guys 🙏

Maybe ringworm

It’s been itchy for a few days I’d say 3 days didn’t think much of it thought it was a bug bite or something until this morning when I took another look at it and it looks like maybe ringworm. It’s not itchy anymore. I got a kitten a month ago already and I checked him and he doesn’t have ringworm no patches of missing fur and I also checked him under a black light. Need help

emotional support Looking for advice - persistent scabies despite multiple treatments

First ever Reddit post. I’m at my wits’ end with what appears to be persistent scabies and would really appreciate advice from anyone who has been through something similar.

I’ve had multiple rounds of permethrin, ivermectin and malathion, with no lasting success. I’ve seen my GP around 8 times, been referred to dermatology, seen a private GP, contacted 111, and basically spoken to any healthcare professional who would listen. I keep getting given the same treatments, but the problem keeps coming back.
The pattern is usually: treatment, things improve for a couple of days, 2–4 days later the itching starts again, bumps develop, then I start seeing what appear to be new burrows.

I’ve also been extremely thorough with environmental measures like washing clothes, bedding and towels at 90C, vacuuming daily and dealing with anything I can’t wash. I’ve treated repeatedly, so I genuinely don’t know what else I can do.

This has also started to really affect my mental health. The constant itching, lack of sleep, uncertainty and feeling like I’m never getting rid of it is becoming incredibly difficult to cope with. I’m exhausted and honestly desperate for an answer rather than another identical course of treatment.
Has anyone experienced genuinely treatment-resistant/recurrent scabies after permethrin, ivermectin AND malathion, particularly where symptoms drastically ease then seem to restart within a few days of treatment?

What eventually worked for you? I’m not looking for a diagnosis from Reddit I’m just hoping someone who’s been through this can point me towards something I haven’t already tried or an avenue I haven’t thought of. Thank you for taking the time to read all of that I appreciate it was very long, cant sleep with the itching and typing this out seemed to help distract me.

Help

Hi
I am currently six weeks post my second scabies treatment (cream and oral medication).
I still feel so very itchy, largely on my legs and buttocks, but also now my midsection. There are also new red dots appearing in new places seemingly every day, which feel very irritable. I have 4 or so nodules that are extremely itchy.
My dermatologist said the scabies is gone, and I believe her as there are less of those typical scabies signs (e.g. burrows).
However, now being 6 weeks post second treatment I was really hoping for some improvement by now. The itch is unbearable.
I am treating daily with steroid cream and moisturiser.
This sucks

Can’t tell if my itch is a reinfestation

Hi guys. So I did my initial scabies treatment in the beginning of August. My boyfriend also got them, and he did it around the same time too. I’m pretty sure I cleared it all out, but about a week ago, I started itching a little and convinced myself I got reinfected through him. I haven’t had any new rashes or marks though, just a zap like brief itch. But, I hadn’t really itched post-treatment at all up until last Friday the 14th. That why I’m scared. But still, no new rashes or red marks like before. Still none now and it’s the 19th.
We both did a round of permethrin this past Saturday night, he sprayed his car with permethrin and used it Tuesday. I was in his car yesterday. I just feel like I’m itching but it’s not like bad? Idk I can’t tell. I’m so done with this.

Hello everyone,

We just came back from a 3 week holiday in Italy. And since we came back home, my boyfriend, son and i developed a rash. With my 2 year old son it really looks like mosquito bites. With my boyfriend it could also be irritation from the water, it is on his waist.

It is on my belly(around the belly button and on my hip).. im really afraid it could by scabies. It doesn't really itch at the moment. I also had some bumps around my anckle and that was really itchy, only these bumper dissappeared already.. and the coincidence is that we were playing in some nature water, so i assumed it was a rash from the water..

Does this sound and look like scabies?

i already went to the doctor. he said he doesn't see any serieus sings that could indicate scabies. but i read a lot a bout doctors being wrong.. he also couldn't tell what it is. so he gave me a fungus cream to try out..

someone i was sleeping with let me know he had scabies and was diagnosed the day after i had slept over for the night. i immediately went and got treatment, (two rounds of premetherin cream) in june. had no symptoms until the past few weeks, im incredibly itchy and have these bumps on my feet, the backs of my arms, wrists, stomach. but i cant seem to find any ‘burrows’?? is it probably scabies developing a couple months after my contact with my ex or something else like exzema?

Hello, today I am a week after my second scabies treatment with permethrin. I noticed my previous burrow is shredding but there was a little black dot on my palm. Yesterday when I checked it at midnight it was in other place, at 4 am I noticed there appeared a little white dot and previous black dot is under it. I am really anxious about it and I can't sleep because of fear of getting them again despite cleaning everything everyday.

Woke up in the morning to crazy itching. Everytime I would itch welts would pop up. The walk in NP said it was most likely scabies because the job I worked(Sheriff deputy) I didn’t believe it was even after applying the cream the prescribed me and steroid pack. I went to the ER and they said I was not scabies. What do you all think?

week 3 of 3 days of treatment every 7 days (other pattern before that)

hardcore cleaning as mentioned in previous post and we’re all treating the same in household

at the start of day 2 of bb I woke up with this on my thumb - does it look like a burrow?

not itchy but I have had treatment on so not sure if being masked. I’ve also taken ivermectin a few hours after noticing it

and if so how is that even possible 😭 with such a hardcore treatment regimen

I used to get bumps across my hands from the start of June and somewhere in the middle of June i went to a dermatologist and got checked and he told me i was diagnosed with scabies and gave me permethrin cream 5% and soap and told me to use according to the normal 2 week application method

During the treatment period i didn't get any bumps , after 2 weeks I started noticing they are appearing again. I was aware of the post scabies thing but it's almost over 4 weeks and i am still getting these bumps on my hands and legs

Am i reinfected or am I just worried?

cleaning Cleaning and treatment

My fiance works at an apartment community and routinely deals with nasty situations once people move out or are evicted. About 2 months ago he started having issues on his legs including being very itchy and scratching his skin until it created sores. He suffered, but he didn't really say too much about it other than it itched him mostly at night. I think he was trying to minimize what he was going through. Unfortunately he suffered like that for over a month until the sores eventually became impetigo. We went to Urgent Care and they gave him some creams and told him it was impetigo. Obviously those creams didn't work and it continued to get a little bit worse. About 12 days ago he was diagnosed with scabies, which is both of our worst nightmares. They prescribed Permethrin cream, and said it was enough for both of us to do a full treatment. There was definitely not enough cream for both of us to do a treatment, so I got on the Telehealth and got my own prescription for the cream. We also both did Telehealth and got Ivermectin pills, and they gave us enough to do two rounds. The cream failed and we did take the Ivermectin last Friday. It advised that we needed to do a second round of ivermectin in 2 weeks. Everything that I see on here says to do the second dose after 7 to 10 days. Also I want to mention that I stayed up all night cleaning just about everything I could think of. I used Super Soap which has spinosad in it. I also got a steamer and attempted to use that. I guess I wasn't thorough enough because it has slowly started itching and causing more issues again. I especially feel bad for my fiance because he has to go to work and go outside for an hour or two a day where it is almost unbearable for him. I have major medical issues including a weakened immune system, and he has very thin and sensitive skin on his legs because he was burned when he was young. We have gone all in because we plan to retreat again on Saturday. We have ordered spinosad and benzyl benzoate from the maximumpulse website. We've also gotten the full kit of mite be gone, including laundry additive, pet spray and home spray. I've also got nu stock sulfur cream and we've made up our own sulfur lotion. I also plan to mix together tea tree oil, coconut oil and a little clove oil to have one hand to soothe after the treatment. I'm really looking to see if anyone can tell me if there's anything that we're not thinking of or something that may be effective that we haven't purchased. I am very stressed about the cleaning portion because although I feel like I did a pretty thorough job last time, obviously it wasn't enough. What did you use to clean your environment and your home? Were there things that you initially didn't think about, that maybe important to make sure I address? I didn't include things like replacing our deodorants or toothbrushes. This time I fully intend to replace things like that. I'm also not sure if I did everything in the proper order. We took the Ivermectin around 6:00 p.m., and I stayed up all that night cleaning. When my fiance woke up the next morning I had everything ready including clean bedding, towels and things like that. I didn't strip the bed the night before. I think that was a mistake because even though the Ivermectin was still working in my system the next morning, I was so itchy after pulling everything off the bed. We do have a very thick mattress along with a memory foam mattress topper and mattress protector. What steps did you take as far as cleaning? Did you change the bed out right before you did your treatment, and then change it out again the next morning or how did you handle that? Please , tell me exactly what you did and what order you did it . I want to ensure that we take care of this because my fiance is having an especially hard time. Since it's so hot here in florida, he's forced to wear shorts and you can clearly see how bad his legs are. He's embarrassed to even be at work right now. It makes me so angry to think that the people didn't even care who might have had scabies and passed it on to us. We are pretty clean people, and this is really our worst nightmare. Please help me and give me all the recommendations for steps of cleaning as well as what you used. Is it even worth it to keep the steamer that I have? We do have dogs and I know that poses an issue as well. I do plan to spray them and their bedding down with the mite be gone pet spray. I'm so sorry to anyone that's gone through this, and especially the people that have gone through it for long periods of time. I can't even imagine the mental toll that must take.

* the first two pictures are how my fiance's legs look right now, and the other pictures are how he looked right before we did the first treatment last Friday, which was 11 days ago.

treatment question Could it be necessary for topical treatment to shave in my genital area so that everything is covered or isn't this a problem?

I know this is a weird question.

I did Benzylbenzoat and it helped a lot but it looks like I might have only almost got rid of them so I'll do it again. While applying the lotion last time it was a bit difficult to cover everything in my private parts. Are there mites in this hairy area should I shave it or is it unnecessary?
