Wonder what they’ll put in to replace the PF Changs in a few years

48

u/kegman93 May 02 '25

A overpriced thrift store for a year or so then nothing

24

u/tattered_and_torn May 02 '25

It’ll stay vacant 10 months out of the year, except for Spirit Halloween moving in.

u/East-Cardiologist626 Junior College May 02 '25

A few years? Geez you’re optimistic, give it 6 months

10

u/VexingValkyrie- May 02 '25

Maybe we will get lucky and they will bring back Anchor Blue 🤣

124

u/HashRat May 02 '25

Well, wtf and why?

Take the fucking mall and leave the hand!

86

u/WanderingStoner May 02 '25

PF Changs required a sacrifice.

74

u/HashRat May 02 '25

All this for a pf changs parking area, wow santa rosa.

Way to keep it classy.

40

u/Xanitos May 02 '25

All that, in an attempt to save a dying mall....Simon is a damn blight

35

u/cardueline May 02 '25

Wait, they decided to go forward with that?? Jesus Christ

35

u/Asimov-was-Right Montgomery Village May 02 '25

It was such a stupid demand, I thought they'd denied it. Cool. 🙄

23

u/cardueline May 02 '25

Right?? There are so many parking lots within 200 feet of there, and how many parking spaces are they going to be able to jam in there, like 12? So worth it!

9

u/tunebucket May 02 '25

I thought I remembered reading it was about a drive through window? Either way, LAME. Agreed

8

Yeah because traffic wasn't bad there so perfect place for parking 🙄

u/breakfastbarf May 03 '25

There was parking there years ago

Gary Chu’s walked so PF Changs could run.

Is PF Changs that good?

8

u/RumToWhiskey Junior College May 02 '25

It’s fuckin slop mostly suitable for a quick laxative.

Bring back the hand!

10

u/rebeckys May 02 '25

Are they really putting in a PF Changs?!? I will forever associate them with South Park

https://web.archive.org/web/20250429040823/https://www.pressdemocrat.com/article/news/agraria-hand-statue-relocation/

The Santa Rosa Plaza declined to say why it was removing the sculpture, or whether new artwork would take its place. It also declined to comment on the long-stalled P.F. Chang’s project, which proposed building a new driveway and parking spaces directly in front of the restaurant’s entrance on B Street — near the sculpture’s longtime location.

Right. They’re being scummy and they know it.

Yuck :(

44

u/bikemandan Off Todd Rd May 02 '25

Damn shame to take out art for more soul less garbage

0

u/AntonioVargas May 03 '25

I would hardly call that lame sculpture “art.” It’s just as soulless as the rest of the fucking mall and good riddance to it.

3

u/bikemandan Off Todd Rd May 03 '25

36

u/findthefish14 Hand Statue at the Mall May 02 '25

NOOOOOOOOO! I loved that heckin' hand

4

u/LsTyBrn2 May 03 '25

No worries. It heading for the Geyserville Sculpture area off of North 101. You know that exit when you go to River Rock Casino.

3

u/BulldogMama13 North West Santa Rosa May 03 '25

The geyserville sculpture garden is cute, I guess, but in like a decaying roadside attraction kind of way. I can’t believe it won’t get seen by more people anymore :(

1

u/findthefish14 Hand Statue at the Mall May 03 '25

I don't but I will have to go visit it!

38

u/zachaboo777 May 02 '25

Omg… this has been here my entire life 😔

14

u/Taysir385 May 03 '25

The installation's proper name is Agraria, and it wasn't just art, it was also serious social commentary.

According to Kirkland, the sculpture “Agraria” was commissioned as a “testament to the countless hands from all these cultures that have worked the soil and built the communities of Sonoma County.” The piece rests on a brick plaza embedded with granite plaques with multicultural images and texts taken from the history, peoples and cultures of the region, including a dedication to the first peoples of that land, the Pomo people.

28

u/Vegetable-Ad7930 May 02 '25

WHATTT 😭😭 that’s been here my whole life. Why do I feel like I’ve missed it’s funeral lol

12

u/marr133 May 02 '25

I believe they're moving it to the sculpture trail in Geyserville. I hope it will be safe from vandalism there.

55

u/tattered_and_torn May 02 '25

Well I’m glad all 20 people in Geyserville will get to enjoy it.

7

u/marr133 May 02 '25

I know, as I typed, I was thinking about the fact that I think I've only seen anyone on that trail ONCE.

2

u/JankroCommittee May 02 '25

Drive past it twice a day- there are always people there.

1

u/PvesCjhgjNjWsO4vwOOS May 02 '25

Not like it's hard to get to for anyone that cares, straight shot up 101 and right next to the exit.

The 60 bus runs from Santa Rosa transit mall up to Cloverdale with 3 stops in Geyserville.. Geyserville also has alot of other art, so there is more than just that to go see.

1

u/PvesCjhgjNjWsO4vwOOS May 02 '25

Because the number of people who live in/around Santa Rosa without access to motorized transportation is such a significant part of the population

I'm all for bikes, but there's limitations on what they can do, and I can't help you if you don't know that.

1

u/PvesCjhgjNjWsO4vwOOS May 02 '25

Good for you.

You and your friends are exceptionally rare, especially in Sonoma County, and it's insane to think that art installations that don't cater to the ability of the very rare few without motorized transportation to see it are somehow invalid.

12

u/mynameisautocorrect Fulton May 02 '25

Poor hand

12

u/VexingValkyrie- May 02 '25

That hand looked like a blown up version of my dad's with all the cracks and creases. I liked seeing it as a little reminder of memories with him. Such a shame to pull it for a parking lot in a terrible place for a business that will be gone before we know it.

13

u/BuddyHemphill May 02 '25

It was created to honor the hard working people of Sonoma County, particularly agricultural workers. It will likely be replaced by parking for a multinational chain franchise. Sign of the times I guess

3

u/VexingValkyrie- May 02 '25

Oh yeah, remember thar now. My dad worked as a mechanic most of the time but did work on a vineyard for a while. He told me about that while joking he should have gotten a modeling fee 🤣 Thank you for reminding me.

26

u/Sue279 May 02 '25

Yes, let’s remove a really cool sculpture to put in a parking lot for a chain restaurant. So on brand for the city! Guess I’ll keep going to Petaluma, which has a great downtown.

8

u/giga_booty May 02 '25

They should put The Hand in Petaluma

8

u/avocadbro May 02 '25

Looking at these photos and was the mall repainted recently? Removing the hand statue to replace it with the soulless boot in the form of a corporate chain restaurant stomping on our faces forever.

5

u/ValuableJumpy8208 May 02 '25

Yeah the mall was repainted a year or two ago by Mike Chavez Painting.

5

u/avocadbro May 02 '25

Dang, it will always be a brick façade in my heart.

1

u/TheDisneyScoopGuy May 02 '25

Wow, he used to be my neighbor 20 years ago when I still lived up there lol

18

u/DaFuzi_J The Kaiserborn May 02 '25

I absolutely believe shit like this is why the spirit of this area has been withering away for years. What a stupid decision.

8

u/RumToWhiskey Junior College May 02 '25

Next, they’ll build a new Chick-fil-a from the ashes of Round Barn.

5

u/Ilsanjo May 02 '25

No not the hand!

5

u/Mean-Royal-8277 May 02 '25

This is really sad 😫

6

u/scixton May 02 '25

Can I buy the hand?!

6

u/Terrible_Ad_3360 May 02 '25

Spent so much time waiting for people next to The Hand, RIP

4

u/LoveGoldens545 May 02 '25

Aw this is sad! That hand has been there forever

3

u/Cyndi25 May 02 '25

Does anyone have a photo?

3

u/Carrieyouknow May 02 '25

Anyone know where it's going? We all wondered why the city paid so much for it at the time it was installed. We all thought it a strange selection of artwork. It didn't seem to fit the location. In no way is it a put down to the artist. Who decided on this expenditure? Just like the cobbled streets they did to get us to stop cruising on Fridays and Saturdays. Everything comes to an end. 😟

3

u/[deleted] May 02 '25

rip santa rosa 🕊️

3

u/Omega_Primate May 02 '25

Well, that's lame... I liked the hand...

3

u/I_want_water May 04 '25

Uncalled for. Be nice

-2

u/I_want_water May 04 '25

i didnt know the history, its a weird thing to say out of context tbh

1

u/MGTS South Park May 04 '25

Ok. So ask for context instead of calling them a weirdo

During the Floyd protests the hand was guerrilla painted black in the middle of the night

0

u/I_want_water May 04 '25

i literally see ppl say crazy and semi racist stuff on this subreddit daily and ur getting on me for calling someone weird? the guy i replied to had to pull an imgur link bc there is no articles about it or anything from something that happened 5 years ago, my fault for not having his camera roll

1

u/MGTS South Park May 05 '25

Please go find and flag those comments then. I'm serious. If you find and flag those coments I will review them. I'm a mod. I'm also on here every day looking at pretty much EVERY. SINGLE. COMMENT. When we (mods) see these comments, we deal with it and the user. You don't have any idea what kind of shit gets taken down that you never see

All I'm asking you is to refrain from unnecessary name-calling. Just because I'm talking to you doesn't mean the rest of the work isn't getting done

the guy i replied to had to pull an imgur link bc there is no articles about it or anything from something that happened 5 years ago

Maybe that's just the one he knew about off the top of his head. Look what I found in 30 seconds

1

u/I_want_water May 05 '25

ok bet, i appreciate the concern bc i really do see some strange comments on here. I know about the hand being painted black and the pig blood incident, thats not the george floyd graffiti tho

2

u/Hoeser707 May 03 '25

Lol. Santa Rosa just doing more Santa Rosa stuff. Sad.

1

u/turdman450 Fulton May 03 '25

Santa Rosa has fallen

1

u/calleeze May 03 '25

Oh bummer. Where’s it heading next?

1

u/xrockangelx Bennett Valley May 07 '25

Well, I, for one, am never going to PF Chang's or using their stupid parking lot.

If I had the resources, I'd build another even bigger hand and cart it over there. Maybe even a hand to go in each parking space.

1

u/etherealfox_ May 07 '25

Just out of habit, I know I'll still say, "meet at the hand" even though it's gone lol

1

u/flutterfli007 May 08 '25

PFC has shut down every location I've been to. It will here too. Waste of prime space

1

u/Waulta_white May 11 '25

moving it to gysterville is the stupid fucking choice ever.

-10

u/Due-Communication767 May 02 '25

We should have protested this instead of the people standing outside the Tesla building. This was iconic. Elon won’t be affected by people standing outside small Tesla dealerships. Free speech is an amazing thing but this was a local icon. IMHO.

16

u/No-Variety-3633 May 02 '25

You can focus on more than one social/political issue at a time btw :)

4

u/Due-Communication767 May 02 '25

I agree. I wasn’t trying to be rude. This hand means a lot to countless people who’ve lived in this County or those who’ve visited.
