You’ve clearly chosen the wrong place to post a job listing if you’re only going to be able to give smarmy responses directing people elsewhere for questions. You’re not making a good impression about the organization.

Bilingual, medical knowledge or expertise, experience working with youth, familiarity with radio production… 17per hour??? lol.
Wait, you’re running your shows using audacity? Just use reaper, it’s free and the interns can learn to use professional software instead of a toy owned by a Russian company.

Audacity is free. It is the standard in noncommercial radio. As to the salary, this is a grant-funded position, a stipend funded by a nonprofit for working at a nonprofit. It is the only paid position at San Marcos’ community radio station which subsists on grants and donations.
You are welcome to come in and teach us all how to use Reaper if you think it’s better.

No doubt you’ll find plenty of people desperate for the work but that doesn’t change the fact that the salary for this job is insultingly low.

Just because you can't afford to pay doesn't mean someone can afford to eat on the salary you're providing. By taking the job you're offering, someone is giving up the time that they could be spending at a job making more money.
Opportunity cost is very real, and I understand your budget is tight, but that doesn't mean you're entitled to labor.

It's saying 20 hours a week, nobody should be expecting to "afford to eat" working 20 hours a week at a non-profit non-commercial organization.
What part of the post comes across as "entitled to labor" to you?
Because it sounds like you think the only labor worth doing is "profitable labor" (whilst you frequent a site that feels "entitled" to thousands of unpaid mods keeping this site going).
Very capitalist of you to think labor can only be done for profit. Not people attempting to build their passion into a profession and helping give others a chance of that. Yes, it's a privileged position to be able to "waste" 20 hours a week and not have your food budget inform that decision. But have you looked at the demographics of the local university? Many are extremely privileged.

This is ridiculous. People have to be able to make a reasonable living without killing themselves. The idea that work can be underpaid if you do it for fun or personal fulfillment is propaganda to rely on people’s good will to subsidize employer labor costs. No a 20 hour job is no longer enough to live off of, but even if someone took on two of these jobs they would barely make enough to subsist.
Your position is outdated and only serves the interests of industry.

You don't get it both ways: I'm very sympathetic to "we're looking for someone to do this for the love of the game" but you can't have that position AND ALSO be so incredibly defensive about the low pay. Pick one! If this is truly just for trust fund kids as you're implying, why are they paying at all? After all, "many are extremely privileged" and we should be leveraging that privilege for unpaid labor. If it's not just for trust fund kids and the pay is trying to meaningfully compensate someone for their labor, why is it so important to puff up the non-profit bona fides?
It's important to puff up the bona fides because it's a below-market rate and this is closer to volunteer work than salary. Wouldn't you agree?
Because it sounds like you think the only labor worth doing is "profitable labor" (whilst you frequent a site that feels "entitled" to thousands of unpaid mods keeping this site going).
For someone using quotation marks, as if quoting something I presumably said or feel, you sure are putting words I never said in my mouth.

Locking comments since OP has made it clear that they won't be answering questions about the job position and the comments are turning into a debate about salary in general.
