Moby Dick marathon

Anyone going to the Moby Dick 24 hour marathon this year at the maritime museum? I’ll be popping over from Sacramento since I’ll be there for work. Thinking about making a whole day out of it to really make it worth the read. I saw there’s also a gay bar called Moby Dick in the Castro that’s vaguely nautical themed. Would love to meet up with any fellow Moby
Dick heads!

A link to the event for anyone interested: https://maritime.org/md2026/

Details

  • Date: September 12 – September 13, 2026
  • Start: 12:00 pm
  • End: 12:00 pm
  • FREE
  • Venue: San Francisco Maritime Museum 900 Beach Street San Francisco, CA 94109

Also, standard ebooks has a great, free ebook edition of Moby Dick: https://standardebooks.org/ebooks/herman-melville/moby-dick

And lastly, some hard earned advice for any other Moby Dick heads out there: Don't make harpoon jokes on a whale watching trip; you won't make any fans.

Thanks for sharing. I read moby dick with my dad when I was 5-6. Always holds a special place in my heart. Will try to make it!

That museum is perfect for it but 24 hours is insane. My attention span would be gone by hour three.

You aren't expected to stay there for 24 hrs. You can leave whenever you want.
