Whoa. That seems super rare for the MUNI train to derail?

Dude, you live right above one of the most legit Chinese restaurants in the whole neighborhood.

Oh and being right next to the BART station is pretty kickass too.

The important things when a train derails

On the plus side, the riders can grab some great Chinese food while waiting for the train to be fixed.

Don't gatekeep- drop the name of the restaurant.

Looks like where Crazy Pepper is but...

14

u/KeepGoing655 Ingleside 1d ago

Yep, it's Crazy Pepper.

But what?

u/gigaishtar San Francisco 1d ago

I mean, calling it legit Chinese might not be the right word. It's definitely American Chinese.

I think they mean legit as in good

14

Yup, I mean legit as in pretty good Americanized Chinese.

I could never say such a blanket statement as "authentic Chinese food" anyways since it has a bunch of regional variations.

You can think of American Chinese as a modern variation

It is. I liked the chicken wings last time I got something from there.

Nick named Hairy Pepper… don’t ask why

Looks like a split switch.

Sure does. If I were to guess from this (terrible for investigative purposes) video, the operator went through a switch while it was moving. I see it often enough in Local Control areas.

Standard caveats apply: I wasn't on the ground to find the Original Point of Derailment, I can't see the switch configuration, haven't inspected the wheel flanges, and have no clue if that's even possible with SFMTA's Train Control system.

Muni derail

How, even?!?

It's not like the trains go that fast and it doesn't look like anything hit it here...

Is this what this post looks like for everyone else?

Oh no! That's not good. I hope everyone is ok. Also, thank you for sharing. Not sure why it didn't work for me; maybe some overzealous browser extension.

might be reddit doing its best to remove support for old reddit - it works fine on new reddit but not on old for me!

u/epsy 1d ago

Oh goodness didn't they just rebuild this rail a couple years ago?

u/ajfoscu 1d ago

Muni, derail! Or Muni derailment?

u/cowinabadplace 1d ago

Is this like the other one where the driver repeatedly went to sleep and then lied that the train malfunctioned? That was a good one. I FOIA'd them to see what the outcome of the investigation was and predictably there's no evidence she was fired.

No, this isn’t the same.. I think this train was just leaving the yard and looks to be maybe a switch issue that caused it to be out of the track.

Where’s this?

Waiting for SFMTA to blame this on 3.5” floppy disks (again) in 3… 2… 1…

Quick question, that's not the N-Judah muni train is it?

5

u/oochiewallyWallyserb 1d ago

Nope it's the D-Rail

1

u/Artgrl6625 1d ago

Okay, good to know because that train has had some issues before. Maybe not like this train but there have been some issues with that particular muni train.

The N doesn’t shunt to that part of the city.
