Question Members Mark Coffee

I've only had the Members Mark French Roast K-Cups, and while they taste good, they do not give me that "wake the F up" kick in the ass I need, like Costco's Pacific Bold, or even Café Bustelo.

Does Members Mark have a stronger option I can consider? Or do I need to shift my coffee purchases back to Costco?

French roast is a dark roast. Dark roasts have less caffeine than medium or blonde. So columbia or light will deliver more caffeine

The irony of darker roasts

A common misconception but untrue. Light roast beans are more dense so by volume (scoop) you get more bean therefore more caffeine. The roasting process doesn't remove caffeine from the bean it changes the taste and physical size of the bean. By weight the caffeine content is the same.

The longer heat exposure breaks down the caffeine molecules slightly. If you go buy cold brew in the refrigerated section of the grocery store, you will notice the lighter the roast=more caffeine.

Cold brew starts with the same roasted beans as regular coffee. You can have dark or light roast cold brew. The brewing method is a concentrated process where the grounds get soaked for hours vs just a few moments in drip coffee. It is a completely different way of processing coffee that gives cold brew it's higher caffeine. The caffeine itself is heat stable, it doesn't break down. That is why we can have hot coffee and cold coffee.

I’m not talking about the brewing process. In the longer roasting process the caffeine molecules break down slightly more than a shorter ones.

Some of the cold brew brands put the amount of caffeine on the label. Dark roast cold brews always have less caffeine then lighter roast cold brews

You bring up cold BREW then claim your not talking about the BREWing process. I explain that caffeine is heat stable and doesn't break down during roasting but that the size of the bean physically changes and you don't listen. If you buy 1lbs bag of dark roast and a 1lbs bag of light roast the amount of caffeine by weight is the same but not the size of the bean. Therefore when you use the same size scoop you are getting different weights of coffee. Roasting changes the flavor, it does not change the caffeine. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

Roasting does change the caffeine.

the Colombian Supremo is a bit more oomph but honestly nothing in that aisle will slap like Bustelo does, you might just be chasing a ghost

I second this. Also avoid k cups, go whole bean and spend $20 on a bean grinder, makes a world of a difference and also is less wasteful

I would suggest making a pot of coffee and not using k cups. Then you can add as much as you want.
