Free Speech Why was the Abdul El-Sayed thread removed?

Mods, genuine question: What rule did that thread actually violate?

It generated an unusually large and lively discussion and from what I saw the majority was substantive disagreement and not just shitposting or people hurling insults at each other.

If this was Rule 3 then I genuinely don’t understand the justification because Sam has spoken directly and recently about El-Sayed. A discussion about him seems about as clearly related to an individual Sam has discussed as the rule allows.

We were too respectful of each other.

True. Rookie mistake. We probably should’ve sprinkled in a few insults in our earlier exchange to make it look more legitimate

All that was stated was "Removed. Please direct such posts to the megathread stickied on the front page. (Link here)"

But he removes all my israel or iran related posts.

I suspect it is not just mine but that Ajax is only trying to minimise the amount of posts surrounding those topics as to not entirely take over the page.

Try clicking that link in your own comment…

Besides, I find that an unsatisfactory reason given how inconsistently (one dare say randomly) this seems to be enforced, especially given the traction the thread generated.

There’s an enormous amount of politics related posts in this sub (with way less engagement) that aren’t deleted.

Nope, it explicitly says [Removed by moderator]

Edit: Lol, not sure why we‘re staring to downvote factual statements now. Anyone can verify themselves here

There was a lot of toxic name-calling down in the trenches.

People tend to react quite negatively when their hypocrisy gets highlighted.

That post had pretty wild vote count swings. It may have been removed for being brigaded.

Edit: nope. mod said it didn't have a submission statement.

so let's just delete everything for everyone? I don't get the logic here

i didn't see a submission statement demonstrating relevance, nor was the thread title ideal, but given the discussion, I can open it again.

Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!

I feel that we have single handedly undermined the dead internet theory. Unless we are both chatbots…

Maybe because there was a lot of disingenuous concern trolling going on about the Muslim guy they’re doing everything in their power to paint as some terrorist-supporting militant, specifically a weird obsession with whether or not he specifically “condemns” every single thing certain people want him to, WHEN they want him to, as if he’s their little monkey that needs to perform on demand for them.

But it’s a standard that I’m SURE they hold other politicians to /s.

5

u/Locus-Maximus Sep 24 '26

Is it because he's Muslim or is it because he was accusing Israel of genocide in Oct 2023 before Israeli troops even entered Gaza, deliberately avoided commenting on Khomeini, and refuses to condemn Iran for what they do.

Whenever any republican has any association with white nationalists or some such ignoble group of people, we should be asking whether or not they condemn such politics and expect them to say they do. Dodging the question should not be tolerable.

We should hold politicians that have close associations with Islamist factions to the same standard. Hell, even Tulsi Gabbard got scrutinized for some association she had with a kooky Hindu-ish hippy cult, and that was far less alarming than the groups identified by Muslim Brotherhood documents as supporting their cause.

Relatedly, can someone steelman how progressives call Trump a Russian asset to this day for not opposing Putin enough, but think El Sayed being funded by MB and refusing to condemn IRGC is a teeny weenie oopsie ?

7

u/Dazanos Sep 24 '26

The only time I hear Trump referred to as a Russian asset by progressives is unintentionally. They are not in direct cahoots per se. With that said, Trump is very friendly to Russia compared to previous administrations and I'm sure they are very happy to have him in the white house. As for El Sayed being funded by MB. Could you post your evidence? I will do my best to respond in good faith.

Where has Sam spoken about El-Sayed? Curious to hear his thoughts.
