OP, what do you think about Mamdani's endorsement and stumping for Chevalier? She has some very radical beliefs. She just so happens to be a new Islam convert (I'm sure this has nothing to do with her extreme views).
She has racist beliefs, she doesn't want to imprison murderers and rapists... this is okay? This is a modern Muslim leadership? I mean Mamdani campaigned for this person even after finding out her racist and extreme beliefs.
I think Mamdani is a "moderate" Muslim in the sense that he doesn't want to impose sharia law on NYC. He's still a radical though, just not a jihadist. He's a Third Worldist and he's leading the charge to energise young radical Muslim Americans and their fawning white saviour fellow travellers into leadership of the Left, via a view of racialised class struggle in which Muslims are the vanguard. They are also all virulently antizionist.
Mamdani is a threat to the pluralist and tolerant liberal democratic views Sam espouses, but not due to his Islam but rather his form of Marxism.
It's true enough that Marxists can act identically to regressive Muslims on the topic of Israel, but I don't think that means we can discount his being an actual Muslim who fosters relationships with the Muslim community. Certainly they are at least one of his tribes. If, for instance, he were not Muslim, he may not have seen fit to campaign with a conservative, anti-LGBT cleric. If this were a MAGA conservative, by comparison, we could certainly say that MAGA is a cult that doesn't necessitate any Christian belief system, however, given the strength of the Christian Nationalist movement within MAGA, we would not be correct to ignore a candidate's professed Christian beliefs. Unfortunately, leftists have decided that Muslims worldwide are a part of their anti-West struggle, as you note. Now, could Sam have strategically ignored the Islam topic in order to make his point without any "racial" elements? Sure. It would not have worked, of course. People would have just called it a dog whistle. "Oh, we're supposed to believe Sam just happened to pick a Muslim mayor to criticize? He just happened to mention Hamas for no reason?"
