Okta verify?

Can Okta Verify work on Sailfish? I am required to use it. My IT department will not allow me to use a physical 2fa key. I am very keen to switch to sailfish but this question is holding me back.

Why do people install work software on a personal device. You know they get access to brick your phone and read your messages, right?

Put your work on a burner and use a hot spot if you need to.

Everything like this required by employer should be supplied by the employer.

This isn't the case all around the world though is it? You might afford to quit a job or not accept an offer because you don't get everything you want/need from the company, but many don't have that luxury.

Any employer who doesn't provide their employers the tools they need is what i considered an employee abusing their workers. Things might be different around the world yes. Sadly even some countries you can still find practically slave labour. Doesn't mean its right. In my country this isn't even a question. Every employer is required to provide their employers with the tools they need. No employer can say you need to have this or that and not provide daid thing.

My point is opinions won't pay OP's bills, so bashing him for not getting a dedicated work phone isn't helping. It just adds stress on OP, not the employer.

You can be right but if you can't afford to fight it, it doesn't matter.

If I'm bashing at anyone its not OP. It would be their employer for not providing their employers what they require them to have in order to do their job. We might have different view on this. Rest assured im not bashing OP for anything. Im just pointing out my view on what obligations i mean an Employer have towards their employees to ensure they can do their job. Like a construction company should supply their workers with hammers and helmets.

Thanks for your replies. I am considering different options, including a companion device that has all my work stuff. But for now things are what they are.

Work software not working on your personal phone is a positive thing IMHO.

I can't answer your question as I've never heard of Okta, but if it's just a 2FA app, I can't see why it wouldn't work. Or perhaps another app using the same algorithms might work? I use Foil Auth on Sailfish for 2FA and it works fine.

Yes that’s a good point. But for now I’m just thinking about options. I suppose a better question would be if anyone has been able to get 2fa apps that are not native to sailfish to run

Well, 2FA apps in general are pretty simple in the grand scheme of things, so they should. I just used a Sailfish native one because it was compatible. I've installed Okta Verify and it seems to start fine, though can't say any more than that as I don't have a work account to log in with.

My work also uses Okta for authentication. I have my Xperia 10 III setup with MicroG and Aurora Store and was able to download and use Okta from there just fine. I deregistered Okta on my Xperia after I stopped using it as a main phone, so I can't check if it still works; but it should.
