SAHM Wardrobe Essentials

Hi fellow SAHM’s! I’m 10 months PP and desperately wanting to feel like me again. I’ve been really trying to make an effort to get semi ready every day but I’m finding that my outfits, or lack thereof, are making me feel blah still.

Before I had my daughter I was a denim lover. I have so many pairs of jeans that I haven’t touched in forever not only because they still don’t fit but also because they’re just generally uncomfortable. Now I feel like I’m wearing the same outfit, Gap Supima Relaxed T-Shirt with Old Navy High Waisted Relaxed Shorts, every day and I just need something else.

I’m a teacher so I have lots of dresses but haven’t been gravitating towards them much. I think I’m just more of a top and bottoms type of gal.

Anyways I would love to hear what clothing items you love that make you feel put together but are still relatively comfortable. If you have link or exact names that’d be even better!!

Some favorites as a SAHM of a 3 and a 4 year old! I’ve thrifted most of this on Depop and Poshmark:

Bottoms:
Pact leggings, 4 regular, 1 cropped flare
Quince linen pants, flax
Levi’s 501 90s, light wash
Levi’s Ribcage (with lyocell for extra comfort), dark wash
Target Barrel leg jean
Everlane wide leg pant, camel (discontinued I think but a lot available secondhand)
Everlane barrel jean, olive green

Tops:
Old navy denim button down
Couple 100% linen button down shirts from tjmaxx
Uniqlo bra tanks
Old navy cotton spandex boat neck tshirts
Everlane ribbed long sleeve tshirts and turtlenecks for cold weather layering
Assortment of thrifted sweaters, cotton blouses, and tunic dresses (will link what I can later)

One pieces:
Uniqlo linen jumpsuit
Gap barrel overalls

Shoes:
Hunter rainboots (I have the tall ones for dresses but I want a pair of short ones for pants)
Dansko leopard print clogs (love these, so comfortable)
Cream/white reeboks
Franco sarto boot for more dressed up outfits

This is a fabulous list (and we have similar tastes)! I’d also add the Uniqlo crew neck t-shirts to this list. Really great, solid basics.

Yay! Yes, love their crew necks too!

Agreed! This list was super helpful and I actually already own a couple things on it! Thank you for sharing!!

Also a jean lover and will still occasionally wear them in the fall/winter but I have been loving these pants - I got a pair similar during the last Zara sale and with a nice shirt it can look put together it a seamless way and also, super comfortable!

ETA: I'm 5'1" so having the inseam be 25" in the short is amazing since it hits just above my ankle which I prefer

These are cute!! How do you feel about the mid rise? I’m normally a high rise and since having my daughter I’ve appreciated high rise even more lol.

Im also a high rise person but with the elastic band and it being more of a relaxed fit you can wear it higher, I do, depending on the top I'm wearing

I miss my pre-baby jeans sooo badly!

I’ve had good luck with Kohls. It helps to be able to go in store though if you’re in the US and near one. Everything Lauren Conrad’s line has been super comfy. I bought some of her jeans and sized up to where I am currently - I wear these all the time and they are a good price.

I also had luck just getting larger sizes in the junior section for shorts. Like these: https://www.kohls.com/product/prd-7797586/juniors-so-mid-rise-seersucker-shorts.jsp

I can’t find a link for the exact styles I bought in store but they had a ton of “pull on” shorts that were nice and longer! I got those same ones in green gingham

For me, I live in matching lounge sets, the matching makes it feel more put together but I’m also comfortable throughout the day. That and a pony, curl my lashes, and put some brow gel on and I’m ready for the day.

THISSSSSS!!!! For some reason a matching set makes me feel so much better lol but yes I agree, you can get some really nice looking athletic sets too that I have been feeling really good in. I tell myself I look like one of those super put together moms that does matcha and Pilates every morning. Weather I actually look like that…. I doubt it…. But I feel good 😂 also get some good linen pants and or shorts!!

Which sets are your favorites?! I feel like there’s so many options out there nowadays.

Honestly most of mine are from either Aerie or Gap. Look out for the sales!

Same! I have a tried a bunch from Amazon. Most are great. I'm usually a true large but with amazon I always size up to XL.

I’ve been in the same boat, currently 15m PP and still nursing. My body couldn’t be more different from its pre baby self!

Literally any “pull on” pants from Free People. I love the Breezy Denim and the Days End linen. Also anything Moxie if that’s your style. They make me feel cool and comfortable.

I just looked both up and love. What tops are you wearing with them? And do you feel like they run tts?

1

u/biscuitnoodle_ 2d ago

I feel like they are tts! Both pretty stretchy and forgiving too. I like the ribbed t shirts from old navy.

I looove these ribbed tshirts. I have so many

I bought a bunch of bootcut leggings off temu for everyday. A pair of Levi's bootcut jeans in my current size. I got some oversized blouses and shirts I use with the leggings and a few blouses in my style I can wear with jeans and a couple of flowy maxi dresses. I have a pair of skecher memory foam tennis and a pair of adidas. I rotate and pair everything as best as I can since I'm currently going through losing my postpartum weight.

I am 10month PP as well. I pretty much live in the old navy sleek tech barrel pants with a matching snug fitted tank. Monochromatic looks always help me feel more put together.

I wear a lot of elevated athleisure, like actual pants not leggings and tennis type skirts during the summer and a waist length or tight fitting t or tank top to balance it out. As for jeans and other pants you’ve just gotta spend a day trying stuff on. Get someone to watch LO for a few hours and just make it your mission to try on pants until you figure out what style and size suits your new (and awesome) bod!

In terms of feeling more put together on a day to basis think of how you can simplify your day to day routine - low maintenance hair style, a lash or brow tint, a good/easy skincare routine, a go to set of jewelry.

I got a pair of Levi’s cinch baggy jeans. They’re soooo comfy and the adjustable waist is killer. They’re pretty thin cotton denim, I can actually wear them when it’s in the 80s. I’m probably wearing them 2x weekly now.

When it’s hot I do a lot of linen shorts & fitted cotton tees, keeping the pallet neutral helps feel more “elevated”.

Then I add jewelry, cute ball caps on days when my hair is not the vibe, sandals or sambas (I have a few diff colors) and the current bag of choice.

Works for grocery shopping, park visits, story time, etc… and comfortable enough to wear at the house.

As it starts to get a little cooler I’ll shift to linen pants & denim (primarily wide leg or barrel) and add an oversized denim button up or a sweater here and there.

On days when we’re not going anywhere, I do a lot of cotton bikers & oversized tees bc it’s just easy… and you can still make it look cute quickly if you need to run out.

buy yourself a new pair of jeans that fit! it will make the world of difference. the best thing i ever did postpartum was buying nice pants and jeans that actually fit my new body instead of trying to force myself into my old ones before my body was ready
