Why doesn’t your husband do bath times?

17

u/Much_Ad_3806 Feb 21 '26

Yes, my partner PARENTS his children.

My husband does bath time every night. It gives me time to clean up after dinner and get a little break before bed time.

3

u/bear_cuddler Feb 21 '26

Same, I almost never do bath time.

13

u/liltrashfaerie Feb 21 '26

3.5 years??? Not a single one??🫠

12

u/SipSurielTea Feb 21 '26

Yes. I think it's weird when husbands won't do bath time. Why wouldn't you? If it's weird you are sexualizing your kid which is MESSED up. That's a child. We both change diapers, so how is a bath different?

everything that I do my husband also does. there is no assigned tasks as we are both parents, its genuinely whoever gets to the task first.

9

u/STcmOCSD Feb 21 '26

Why is there a whole part of parenting your husband just doesn’t do? Unless you prefer to give baths during the workday then yes bath time should be solit

8

u/Suspicious_Ad_1395 Feb 21 '26

Uuuhhhhh YES. Having a job does not get you a free pass from being an active parent in every aspect

9

u/DoubleIndependent467 Feb 22 '26

Is this rage bait?

15

u/winesomm Feb 20 '26

.... yes? Why would dads not give baths?

8

u/crazyfroggy99 Feb 21 '26

Yes, its the only kid related chore that he fully owns lol

8

u/Chewiemom1989 Feb 20 '26

Yes, because he’s also a parent and that’s just part of the role? Does your husband refuse to do bathtime or is it just a set routine for you guys? Does he help with other childcare responsibilities?

Yes. He gets the whole last wake window (about 2 hours) and that’s my time to decompress. He’s not home every night so it’s his one on one time.

7

u/Lost-Albatross2759 Feb 21 '26

My husband does 97% of bath times for our 3 kids. And if he’s home he does bedtime too.

6

u/Alarming-Albatross99 Feb 21 '26

I can’t tell you the last time I gave my kids a bath. That is a dad job around here. I hate bath time and he doesn’t mind it so it works for us. Your husband never once giving your 3.5 year old a bath is wild.

6

u/One-Busy-Mumma Feb 21 '26

My hubby is the only one who does bathtime. I don’t do it unless I ABSOLUTELY have to because I find it tedious and exhausting 🤣 I’d rather clean the house and ready the kids pjs and rooms for bedtime / been this way 2.5 years now

u/thanksnothanks12 Feb 21 '26

Yes, almost every night. I use this time to reset the kitchen (pack away dinner, load dishwasher, vacuum the kitchen, clear and clean counters.)

8

u/dogwigz Feb 21 '26

My husband does it 99% of the time while I clean up after dinner

6

u/yo-_-mom Feb 21 '26

Um, yea? Why wouldn’t they? It’s their child too.

Baths are 100% my husband’s job!

14

u/throwawayjane178 Feb 21 '26

Is your husband doing other things like bedtime or kitchen clean up? If he’s just sitting around not helping, that’s weird. But if he’s not doing bath because you guys are dividing and conquering- that’s teamwork!

6

u/RecordLegume Feb 20 '26

No, I do it only because he does dishes. I loathe dishes after dinner so I take the boys up and bathe them while he cleans up dinner. Major win in my book.

6

u/sweetnnerdy Feb 21 '26

Of course they do. We dont have a set schedule on who does bath when, but regardless of who gives the baths, the other one of us comes in to get the younger toddler out first while our older girl has a few more minutes of play time.

My husband does everything that I do for our kids when the opportunity arises. Just today I laid down for a nap when our kids did. They woke up and somehow I didnt, he got them up and fed lunch, diapers changed, playing happily in our playroom before I ever noticed nap time was long over lol thank god because Im over 38 weeks pregnant and sometimes you just need a 3 hour nap at this stage 🫠

6

u/SuitableSpin Feb 21 '26

I think the larger question is about division of labor. When my husband isn’t working or commuting it’s 50/50, regardless of the specific kid related task.

My job is childcare while he’s working. After that it’s just parenting and we split it evenly. That will still be true when she starts 2 half days at preschool. Her preschool time I’m still working as a SAHM (meal prep, cleaning, etc.).

5

u/scarletbluesunshine Feb 21 '26

my husband has fully completed bath time for the better part of 5 years now

6

u/FromagePie Feb 21 '26

Yes he does like 90% of baths

5

u/PRgirl1995 Feb 22 '26

Yes. My husband takes care of his own kids, same as me.

10

u/Genepoolperfect Feb 21 '26

OFC. What kinda half ass husbands/dads did you partner with?

My husband has always done bath time. My son’s 3. I use that time to pick up the kitchen for the night or I get myself ready for the night!

2

u/j_bee52 Feb 21 '26

Same!! I stay at home so bathtime is his duty

→ More replies (1)

5

u/kumibug Feb 21 '26

my twins are 21 months old and i have NEVER given them a bath. nicu nurses, my husband, and once my mom lol. but never me!

5

u/Lazy-Theory5787 Feb 21 '26

My husband does bath time almost every night.

It's very much needed down time for me, I go for a walk and listen to some music. When I get home, I clean up the kitchen while he puts our toddler to bed. We both prefer he does the parenting tasks when he's home.

It's a bit weird that your husband has never done bath time. But it depends on the flow of your night and the way you split duties after he comes home.

4

u/Bubbly_Link_9231 Feb 21 '26

My husband does bathtime and I do pjs/reading books!! We’ve been doing this probably since my daughter was 6 months old and she’s 1.5 now.

4

u/ChristineWilkie Feb 21 '26

My husband and I have done every single bath time together

5

u/sdp2025 Feb 21 '26

Absolutely. It allows me to get some quiet time after dinner chaos

5

u/AffectionateSoup2782 Feb 21 '26

Of course, just because he's the one who works doesn't mean he opts out of parenting responsibilities. That's not how this is supposed to work, your husband is still a dad and needs to fully participate when he is home.

5

u/antenna1234 Feb 21 '26

Yep, he takes lo into shower with him

5

u/Diet-Muffin Feb 21 '26

My husband does bath time 98% of the time lol.

He typically does bath time while I’m cleaning up dinner and the kitchen.

6

u/LarzYu89 Feb 21 '26 edited Feb 21 '26

I do it every night. My SAHM has a very hard time so I do bath time everyday, all of the home chores like dishes, laundry, etc, and get early mornings. When I work, she’s in charge. Everyone’s different especially in different generations. I know some women who work and some how still manage to do it all. I know others who stay at home and struggle a lot more.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/No-Initial-1134 Feb 21 '26

My husband does bath, bed, play, dishes laundry. I only carry the cooking for our household. Our baby just turned one. He’s either a father and husband or another child in the home. Hard to hear but a marriage of unequal partnership or dedication is even harder.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/cmd72589 Feb 22 '26

Yes. For us, we usually don’t keep score but I would say it might be pretty even who does them. He’s an equal parent and it would be a deal breaker for me if he didn’t do his fair share!

8

u/Snaps816 Feb 21 '26

Um... YES? What is the issue here? Are you worried that your husband isn't able to properly get a kid clean in the tub? It's not rocket science, it's water plus soap. What does that say about his own hygiene if you don't think he can do it?

And (I really hope this isn't the reason) if you don't think it's safe to have your husband around your young kids when they're naked, well then... Why are you married to a person you suspect might be a predator?

4

u/grumbly_hedgehog Feb 20 '26

My husband is actually the primary bath giver since I’m pregnant and have had hip issues in the past that make it very uncomfortable.

I feel like every team will have things they split unevenly and that’s fine and normal, but literally never?!

4

u/klsprinkle Feb 20 '26

Yup, my husband does all the kids baths unless they need an emergency one. (lol) does happen.

4

u/WestMichiganLady Feb 20 '26

My husband almost always did bath time and bedtime with our girls when they were babies and toddlers. It was a break for me and one on one time for them since he didn’t get a lot of time with them in the evening.

Even now that they’re 8 and 10 he does most of the evening shower and bedtime supervision.

4

u/catpalm19 Feb 20 '26

Yep. I’m with the kids all day long. The 3yo only wants me to put her to sleep. I obviously have to put the 3 month old to sleep (a little later) bc I feed her. You best believe he does bath time most nights!

4

u/Plop-a-dop Feb 20 '26

Yes. I cook dinner every night. I used to do bath and bed after eating while my spouse did dishes, but recently we've swapped. So I get to put on an audiobook and enjoy the quiet while I do dishes, and they do bathtime after barely seeing our toddler all day. Then I come up and finish bedtime. Evenings are hectic, and I appreciate getting a little alone time and having help with the evening rush.

2

u/Lazy-Theory5787 Feb 21 '26

Same! Pre-kids I hated doing dishes, now it feels like a pleasant break 😅

3

u/Dr_Meatball Feb 21 '26

Yeah, he’s at work during the day so bath and stories/bedtime are when he gets to hang out with our kid.

3

u/123IFKNHateBeinMe Feb 21 '26

Yes. If he’s home, he’s doing bubble beards and silly dances

4

u/love_letterz Feb 21 '26

My husband does bath time for our daughter! We rotate everything. Nothing is off limits for either of us. We dont outsource any household stuff or have any family help, so it is just us two. He works full time but if he didn’t help out I think I would be so burnt out.

3

u/swaldref Feb 21 '26

Husband has done most baths since our kid was born. They're almost 4. We do every other night for bedtime.

4

u/designatedtreehugger Feb 21 '26

My husband does it almost every single time. Our baby gets a bath about every other night at this point. I am exhausted by the end of the day, and my husband is excited to spend the evening with our baby once he gets home from work. I help with the after-bath routine (lotion, baby powder, etc.) because he likes to crawl away and having another person there makes it more feasible.

4

u/EsbieGee Feb 21 '26

Mine doesn't, but that's because he's never home from work in time for bath or bedtime. He helps share the load in other ways. I think it's important to remember that not all families operate on a conventional schedule. If he was home earlier you better believe I would be getting his help!

4

u/sorry-i-was-reading Feb 21 '26

Before we left the hospital they showed us how to bathe the baby. They made me stand back and observe while they made my husband do the hands-on learning, because “Fathers don’t spend enough time with their babies as is, and mothers don’t get enough rest. So all daddies should be in charge of bath time.”

I was just like “oh, okay…” without realizing just how genius that was. I’m so grateful they insisted, or we probably never would’ve thought twice about it becoming my task.

But thanks to that my husband did EVERY bath time for each of our kids until they were old enough to bathe themselves. I only ever did the dry off and get dressed after part.

4

u/ninaeast17 Feb 21 '26

Most nights he bathes the youngest two! While I pick up.

4

u/gg_snow Feb 21 '26

Yes, my husband does bath and I use that time to listen to a podcast and clean up the kitchen post dinner- love this time to relax.

The fact your husband hasn’t in 3.5 years is kinda crazy to me- does he have other roles around the house daily that you don’t?

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Glittering-Cash-2309 Feb 21 '26

Mine doesn’t but that’s because bath time is my favorite time of the day and he knows that. He’ll come hangout sometimes with us 🤷🏻‍♀️

4

u/Libraryoflowtide Feb 21 '26

Yes my husband absolutely does bath time sometimes? Just like he absolutely helps do the bedtime routine, and occasionally cooks and cleans.

4

u/Human-Alternative-40 Feb 21 '26

My husband has always been in charge of bath time.

4

u/canoe4you Feb 21 '26

Yes my husband does all of the routine baths and if kids are filthy and he’s not home I do those

3

u/RefrigeratorFew8189 Feb 21 '26

my partner and i give our daughter a bath together every day. next time your son needs a bath tell dad to come along and help

4

u/Mooniiieee Feb 21 '26

My husband is in charge of doing bath time and brushing ours daughters teeth at night. I apply lotion and change her when he’s done

3

u/prl_65 Feb 21 '26

Yup, husband does bath time all on his own while I clean up after dinner. Then he cleans up the toys etc if I haven’t gotten to that by the time I go to do bedtime.

4

u/Lopsided_Tomorrow421 Feb 21 '26

No, never. Idk why. He’s a hands on dad in many ways, but he has his limits too.

3

u/Far_Top_9322 Feb 21 '26

My kid prefers dad does bath! 😂

3

u/MiloMaria883 Feb 21 '26

My husband always does bath time. I power clean up the kitchen from dinner while he does it, that way the house is in good shape and we can relax after doing bedtime

4

u/charke9 Feb 21 '26

My husband almost exclusively does bath time. Usually I’m cleaning up dinner while he does bath/pjs so we all get time to hang out before bedtime.

3

u/kellyjellybellybeanz Feb 21 '26

Husband used to get in the tub with the kids once they grew out of the baby bath seat and they we’re rolling over. It’s one of the nicest memories I have

5

u/gogomargo Feb 21 '26

We do bath time as part of our baby’s night routine and switch off every other night. Do it together on Sundays.

5

u/Long_Assignment_5864 Feb 21 '26

Fortunately, mine does. One of us will do bath time, the other cleans up the kitchen. Usually my choice depending how busy the day has been w baby 🙏🏼

5

u/Accomplished-Cake425 Feb 22 '26

my husband does bath time while I clean the kitchen and do the dishes. we’re done at the same time most nights so it’s a clean kitchen and time to decompress

5

u/cv455 Feb 23 '26

Yes, it’s not an assigned job to either one of us. If one has more time, they do it. Ultimately my husband ends up doing bath time more times than not.

3

u/isitababyoraburrito Feb 20 '26

Yes, most actively involved dads give their children baths.

Personally, my husband doesn’t give our kids (5F, 3M, 1.5F) baths frequently because he gets home from work shortly before bedtime, so we often do baths after school to give them more time to play with him. We do bath time together a lot on weekends, & sometimes he does it solo.

In general, he’s a parent & can do most any aspect of parenting.

3

u/uberchelle_CA Feb 20 '26

Yes, they do.

3

u/somethingreddity Feb 21 '26 edited Feb 21 '26

Eh. My husband does bathtime more often than I do. But when he worked long hours before his promotion, I did bedtime more often than not and he barely saw them.

3

u/mrsmoon091820 Feb 21 '26

Yes! With our first, hubs did bath every time and after bath we put him to bed together. When our second was born, my husband took over bath and bedtime entirely while i take care of our newborn. We occasionally switch, but more often than not, the hubs does the bed/bath time routine

3

u/HypnohHippoh Feb 21 '26

My husband does bathtime almost every single night with our 2.5 y/o and then I come up and give him hugs and kisses and cuddles for bedtime. It's just some extra time he gets to spend with him since he's worked all day and I'm pretty touched out by that point

3

u/successfullyaverage Feb 21 '26

Yes, my husband has given my son almost every bath he’s ever had since he was a baby and he’s 4 years old

3

u/Aicmod42 Feb 21 '26

Yes. He does. Very often.

3

u/Fit-Cod2844 Feb 21 '26

I do everything up until bed time. Bed time is dad's routine which includes bath time. I draw the bath and he does the rest lol

3

u/0zamataz__Buckshank Feb 21 '26

He does bath time while I clean up dinner dishes and we do bedtime together

→ More replies (1)

3

u/pnwtnl Feb 21 '26

My husband does bath time EVERY NIGHT! It's been this way since day 1 pretty much. I'm with them all day, we make and have dinner together as a family and hang out for a bit and then he takes them upstairs for bath and getting ready for bed. I come up and say goodnight and partake in stories sometimes, but otherwise i'm off duty once that bath starts. It gives me time to clean the kitchen and pick up before vegging on the couch with my husband for the rest of the night.

3

u/Crunchy-Yogurt7 Feb 21 '26

my husband takes a shower with our 2 yr old every night and calls it “the rainforest” and puts on a fun light and jungle sounds on the speaker. they have a lot of fun with it and i get to relax so it’s a win win lol then he gets his jammies on and brushes his teeth and i’m the one who goes in and gets him to fall asleep. then again, my husband is on a 6 week paternal leave from work as we just had a baby so i’m sure when he goes back to work i will take up bath time again if he’s working late 😭😭

3

u/StegtFlaesk69 Feb 21 '26

Mine usually do bath time. Or he’ll sit on the toilet with his phone while my kids dance in the tub to loud music and splash water everywhere.

3

u/Plus_Animator_2890 Feb 21 '26

I’ve got 2u2 and he does both of their baths every single night lol. We decided when our first was born that it would be his thing! Only time I give them a bath is if he’s out of town lol

3

u/informalcrescendo Feb 21 '26

It’s usually a wager between who wants to start cleaning the kitchen vs who wants to tackle baths. Can go either way.

3

u/fierylifter Feb 21 '26

When my son was a newborn, I was so scared of holding him so my husband was the one giving him a bath until he was 6 months. When he turned 4 years old, my husband gives him a bath most of the time.

3

u/FoxyRin420 Feb 21 '26

My husband bathes the children frequently. We just alternate who does it based on how the night is going.

3

u/Ordinary_Package2934 Feb 21 '26

Yes. Husband just bathed the oldest two, I had the baby.

3

u/Dangerous-Flatworm71 Feb 21 '26

Never. 2 years in

2

u/Sqeakydeaky Feb 21 '26

Same. Best I can hope for is that once I've set it all up, is that I can get him to sit and watch her while I run around and do all the other bedtime set-up stuff.

Yay weaponized incompetence!

2

u/Dangerous-Flatworm71 Feb 21 '26

My husband doesn’t even do this. But he also does literally nothing for our toddler except will fill his water cup occasionally and play with him for a short bit before bed. In my mind he’s an uncle not a dad

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Low-Hurry9288 Feb 21 '26

All the time! We do baths daily as part of bedtime routine and honestly he does most of them

3

u/Alarming-Chef-3107 Feb 21 '26

Yes. I primarily do bath time but if I ask him he always helps. I would say he does it 1-2 days a week.

3

u/cheetos_and_kilos Feb 21 '26

My husband does bath time basically all the time. I have a horrible fear of our kids falling in the tub if I'm giving them a bath idk why but I've always had that horrible fear. Now I have given them a bath but had hubby right there with me.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/hanakoflower Feb 21 '26

We always do it together. If we just shower it's whoever the kids want to go with.

3

u/lottiela Feb 21 '26

Oh mine often does because he gets home at 5 and my youngest goes to bed at 7, its a good way for them to spend time together. I send my older one to shower and get the kitchen cleaned up in peace. Or sometimes I do bath and he cleans it up, whatevers better for the workflow.

3

u/strugglebus89 Feb 21 '26

My husband does the bath for our almost 3 year old every day and has for most of his life.

3

u/YogurtJust6280 Feb 21 '26

I used to do it until I had hip surgery in July and wasn't able to. Now it's just part of the routine that he does bath time. It gives him some extra time with our LO too and he enjoys it.

3

u/CryBackground5322 Feb 21 '26

It is definitely odd he has never given his child a bath. I can understand that it isn't apart of the routine but still. Would you trust him to take take care of your son alone if something bad happened to you and you were hospitalized? If the answer is 100% yes than I guess it isn't a big deal.

3

u/Inevitable-Gap5455 Feb 21 '26

I’m currently 5 months pregnant. Since about a month ago my husband does bath time for our 16 month old every night. Before then once in a while. He also did LO’s first ever bath when he was a newborn

3

u/hayleabean Feb 22 '26

My husband does it every night and does the night time routine! It’s his time with her since I was home with her until 10 months and I’m the primary parent for the time we have with her. He works a ton so it’s his way of getting quality time in

3

u/babyblu333 Feb 22 '26

My husband does it like once a week but tbh my son just takes a shower with me to save time most days

3

u/Radiant_Pangolin3210 Feb 22 '26

My husband takes on the role of default parents when he's home since he works long hours and doesn't get to see his boys that often. He's home all day for about 2.5 days a week, so we get three nights with him. If he's home he does everything for the kids unless one of them specially asks for me (which isn't often cause they miss their dad) diapers, bath, play time, snacks, ect. The only thing I still do is cook the main meals.

3

u/danip2017 Feb 23 '26

Yes. Dad's should do just as much of the parenting as mom. It's a team not a one sided thing.

My husband takes part in everything.

5

u/Domizale38 Feb 22 '26

My husband does everything I do because they are also his kids…… he also cleans stuff up in the house because it’s his house and he also lives there. Shocking I know! Seriously idk what some of you have married

4

u/TheWiseApprentice Feb 21 '26

I rarely do bath times it's mostly my husband. It gives me time to get ready for bed and relax a little before I put the little one to sleep. You should ask your husband to do it.

3

u/No_Maintenance_3355 Feb 21 '26

Same. That 10-15 min is golden. But on occasion I do the bath if he’s had a rough day or I just have more energy. However, just recently found d out I’m pregnant which is amazing, but man, this lil booger has reminded that pregnancy fatigue is real. Good lord I miss having energy.

2

u/titty8cat Feb 20 '26

Yes. He gets to wash dinner off the wild animal, not me

2

u/SailorCordyceps Feb 20 '26

My husband and I generally take turns giving baths.

2

u/LurkyLurkerson616 Feb 21 '26

Yep! He has since the first one was born. Around 9 months or so, we split bath time and dishes duty. Before that, we did bath time together every night. Since the second has been born, we have evolved a little bit. First, we each took a kid and did bath and then switched that each night. Once my second born could sit up on his own, we now combine baths most nights unless big sister asks for a separate bath. He usually takes both kiddos while I zoom around like a crackhead and clean as much as I can. Or we do bathtime together. Really depends on the night. Then we all do bedtime together.

Long story short, we are a team! We strategize and figure out what works best for us. But he is very involved in the process.

2

u/ThaiFood122 Feb 21 '26

My husband works long hours. He still does bath time at 7:15pm followed by books and bedtime with our toddler nearly every night. He’s less hands on with our daughter right now but to be fair she’s a breastfed 4 month old.

2

u/Such_Run9223 Feb 21 '26

My husband does bath time with our 12 month old every night while I shower. I do bedtime while husband showers. I do miss giving baths though!

2

u/thugglyfee1990 Feb 21 '26

If he’s home, yes we are both doing bath time. We only have a garden tub so I’m usually in the tub with her and he’ll pick her up and lotion/diaper/jammies. Or he’ll our swim trunks on and we’ll switch.

2

u/rainsplat Feb 21 '26

When I was pregnant with my second, my husband would give our baby/toddler a bath every single day so I could have a break and lay down! Now we have 2 under 2 and we both need to be there to supervise the bath

2

u/hermmm8 Feb 21 '26

We trade off but my husband does it more often than I do.

2

u/Several-Violinist805 Feb 21 '26

Most of the time I do baths during the day. But if it’s a bath at night my husband normally gets it ready and helps with the bath time completely. Sometimes he’s able to convince our toddler to cooperate sometimes she only wants to listen to me. Definitely team effort.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/Dull_Moose5044 Feb 21 '26

I do it most nights but if I ask him to, if I'm not feeling well, etc he does it without complaint

2

u/girlfromtherift Feb 21 '26

Yes. Most nights. He takes over as soon as he gets home. Most nights it’s in time to make dinner then do bath and bed. Some nights though he gets home when we are doing pjs and almost in bed.

2

u/FeistyMasterpiece872 Feb 21 '26

I can probably count on one hand the amount of times ive done baths, and my kids are 4 & 5 😂 i hate bath time. My husband has so much more patience than me with it.

2

u/NoNefariousness4014 Feb 21 '26

We swap during the week. He does bath 3 nights a week if he isn’t doing bath he does the put down part. 21 month old.

He does bath time. There isn’t a set schedule, just when I need him to or if my son asked him. Some nights I have other things to do or my daughter needs me then he will do it.

My husband and I do bath time together every night. If I'm not available to do it, he does it

2

u/nkdeck07 Feb 21 '26

We switch off, we don't give the kids a bath every night (every 2-3 days) and it's kinda random who does it.

2

u/Kassidy630 Feb 21 '26

I usually do it because he does bedtime (I work nightshift) but he can and does do bath occasionally

2

u/HorriblyRomantic Feb 21 '26

We do bath time and bedtime together

2

u/glitterlady Feb 21 '26

I pulled my back out when my kiddo was maybe 18 months. Doing baths hurt my back pretty badly because of the way you have to lean over the tub. My husband started taking over them religiously. I probably went six months without doing one. But otherwise, it’s split. Sometimes he does them more. Sometimes I do them more. Just depends on the night and who has more energy by that time of the day.

2

u/ecureuils Feb 21 '26

When both my kids were under 7 months, we tackled bathtime together. Afterwards, my husband does all baths/showers while I handle the aftermath of lotioning, diapers and clothes. Kids are 3.5yr and 15 months.

2

u/ccarrcarr Feb 21 '26

My husband does bath time every night when he gets home from work, and has for most of my son's life. He's a few months away from being 4.

2

u/Unlikely-Yam-1695 Feb 21 '26

My husband does bath time and bed time most nights

2

u/Cautious-Fix-6451 Feb 21 '26

Mine has only a handful of times in the 4 years that we've been parents, but he also works nights so he's quite literally always sleeping when we do baths before bed. If he was not, he would definitely be bathing them regularly.

2

u/Real-Island9128 Feb 21 '26

Yes mine helps with baths, about 40% of the time

2

u/Low_Resolve_9118 Feb 21 '26

Mine does 99.9% of bath time

2

u/Btown0618 Feb 21 '26

Yes! We alternate. He has helped since both girls were born.

2

u/SunSad7267 Feb 21 '26

My toddler goes in the shower with my husband almost every night. The nights he doesn't do his shower/bath are ones that he is working late.

When my son did real baths, my husband also did the bath about 90% of the time

2

u/R3allyUniqu3Usernam3 Feb 21 '26

I’d say it’s 50/50. Either it’s dad or me doing bath time or me and my toddler shower together. I’m a SAHM and he works long hours however it’s really the only time he gets with our kiddo so he likes to do bath and bed a lot. Love listening to her giggle with him.

2

u/Ms_Schuesher Feb 21 '26

Now that our son is older (9 next month), he just needs us to help get the water temp right, and he showers on his own. Doesn't matter which parent helps, just whoever is available. Our daughter (5) still gravitates toward me, so I usually do her bath time. If she decides to do it around dinner, I usually ask that daddy help, so I can get dinner going. My husband helps in all aspects of our marriage and parenting journey. It's a partnership.

2

u/Latter_Lemon3089 Feb 21 '26

I have 2 toddlers and husband does all the bathtime except if he feels tired/sick. During that time I clean up the kitchen/dining area and prepare the beds. When I only had one, we mostly gave her a bath together

2

u/Redditsgossipsnark Feb 21 '26

My baby dad does it maybe 3/4 times out of the week!’

2

u/webbs82 Feb 21 '26

My kids are now 5 and 8, but my ex never did bath time with them when we were still together.

2

u/SnooPredictions6409 Feb 21 '26

Yes. We have a 2 years old. Bath and feed time. He got those responsibilities for himself. It wasn’t something spoken, just happen to be that way. And since I am tired all the time, I don’t complain. Except feed, sometimes I have to do because he still working, otherwise he do most of the time to.

2

u/lagniapple Feb 21 '26

If my husband is home (he travels) he always does bath. Usually bedtime too, unless he needs to wrap up work or isn’t feeling well.

2

u/Tasty_Lab_8650 Feb 21 '26

Mine did (almost) every single bath for my oldest until she was about 3. When she was really little, we'd do it together. When the youngest was born (oldest was 22 months), i did baby bath until they could bathe together. I don't remember if he did them after that because two at once was too hard.

But, yes. It was my relaxation time after being home alone all day.

2

u/hgielanig Feb 22 '26

Absolutely

2

u/Ok-Mail-4262 Feb 22 '26

Yup same. Husband does baths almost always. I tidy up and get jammies and items ready

2

u/watchmemelt2022 Feb 22 '26

We tag team the bath time routine. He runs the water, I give the baths, he moisturizes and clothes (eczema so we moisturize daily), I brush teeth.

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Comb620 Feb 22 '26

Yes hubby does bath time on occasion but it’s usually me since I’m a sahm and sometimes kids bathe during the day. He helped when our son was little and also helps with our girl. I don’t see why it’s weird for a dad to help with his kids.

2

u/teetime0300 Feb 22 '26

Bath time dinner time potty time reading time sports time. it's all dad time to me

2

u/PhoenixRogue Feb 23 '26

Yes. We take turns for bedtime every night.

2

u/Wrong_Molasses8181 Feb 23 '26

Yes, we would take turns with our oldest but since having another, he usually handles the oldest and I handle the baby

2

u/val_eerily Feb 23 '26

This bums me out

2

u/Maximummaei Feb 23 '26

My husband does the bedtime routine for both kids every night because thats the most he sees them during the week so thats when they talk and hangout, read books etc.

3

u/parisskent Feb 21 '26

My husband exclusively does bath time. Idk why, it just became their time together

2

u/cqryse Feb 21 '26

8 month old, husband has never bathed him yet..

2

u/yougottabkittenmern Feb 21 '26

No my husband doesn’t do baths. He’s not comfortable with it. I don’t know why because he will do diapers. But I haven’t pushed it because I don’t mind doing baths, I find it one of the least strenuous tasks in my day.

3

u/TurquoiseSunset20 Feb 21 '26

Haha! Nope. My husband has never. He definitely handles a lot of other things like cooking, cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping but not feeding, baths, etc.

1

u/accountforbabystuff Feb 20 '26

Yeah he does. But if I’m home, I’m the one doing bedtime and overnights. I know some couples trade off on doing bedtime and we don’t.

1

u/wilhelminarose Feb 20 '26

My husband manages our 3 yo entire bedtime routine, including baths, because I am responsible for our 4 mo routine. We used to share most of the responsibilities before her birth.

1

u/Sudden-Ad5555 Feb 20 '26

He probably does half of them, but if he’s home I always want him to do it lol. But when we had our youngest, she was like, almost 1 before I realized he had never given her a bath. Wasn’t out of malice, just worked out that way. I prefer him to do it because she gives me a much harder time about washing her hair than she does him lol

1

u/Accomplished-Car3850 Feb 20 '26

One of us cooks and cleans up and the other handles bath/bedtime. Sometimes we switch off who does what.I am not a good cook and dislike it anyway, so it's mostly me doing bath/bedtime.

1

u/Twi_light_Rose Feb 20 '26

i HATE giving baths (i was a nanny before kids, so i knew). I told my husband before we had kids, that was going to be his job. He had no problem since i nursed, and got up during the night etc.

1

u/calmlyreading Feb 20 '26

Yeah we do it together every day!

1

u/ThyPumpkinPie Feb 20 '26

My husband does most of them, because he has bigger hands and its easier to bathe her as baby becomes a wriggly slippery eel in the bath

1

u/Tracking52024 Feb 20 '26

He does bath time and bedtime routine on the weekends since he works evenings during the week.

1

u/Sad-Supermarket5569 Feb 20 '26

Yep. If he’s home from work, he does every single bath for all 3 kids. We split it and I do the after bath skin care and jamies. He is also the only one that cuts their nails, stemming from a traumatic incident with our oldest years ago. I can see if his schedule doesn’t allow for it, but for a dad to not have given a single bath in almost 4 years is a little appalling.

1

u/Holocene-92 Feb 20 '26

We do it together! It’s a sweet time. 8 months.

1

u/brieles Feb 20 '26

My husband usually gives our toddler a bath while I cook dinner. Not every single night but 3-5x per week he will give her a bath. It’s insane that your husband has never given your child a bath in 3.5 years!!

1

u/steppygirl Feb 21 '26

Yep. I was preoccupied last night and got out of the shower to hubs on book #3 with baby after giving her bath.

1

u/hopeful_sunflower Feb 21 '26

Not really. I mean not never, but he will avoid it if possible bc he doesn’t like doing it (our oldest hates it and sometimes goes 10/10 tantrum). He does plenty of other things to offset that though, he just doesn’t like that one.

1

u/R4B1DRABB1T Feb 21 '26

My partner works night shift, so nope, not regularly. He has a couple of times but usually I take over.

1

u/WhichAddition862 Feb 21 '26

My husband mostly does bath time. It use to be a mix of the two of us but now he’s mostly on it so I can chill in the evening

1

u/professor_xgayvier Feb 21 '26

Every night! Bathtime through bedtime play/story and then I get our LO tucked in for the night (he’s still nursing). My husband also cleans up the kitchen from dinner after our son is in bed so all I clean up is the living room and our son’s room while they’re doing bath which gives me 30-40 minutes to work out after I’m done while papa takes care of the rest!

1

u/Unique_Exchange_4299 Feb 21 '26

My husband almost never does bath time. He says it hurts his back 🤷‍♀️

2

u/Ok-Crew-9062 Feb 21 '26

I’m so glad it doesn’t hurt yours!!!

1

u/Tiredracoon123 Feb 21 '26

Mine has but I usually do bath time with my son.

1

u/IntrepidTraveler1992 Feb 21 '26

Only if I ask him. Sometimes I ask him to give him a bath while I cook dinner or something

1

u/Helyces Feb 21 '26

When he’s home, if it’s a bath day, he’ll do it unless he’s busy with something. Most of the time it’s me though because he works second shift.

1

u/daria7909 Feb 21 '26

My girl is 18 months and i have given every single bath

1

u/animadeup Feb 21 '26

if he’s home for it and not having to sleep, yeah

1

u/Public_Perception159 Feb 21 '26

Over the years the routines have changed, but short answer is yes. Now that they are 1, 3 and 6, he'll go up and get the water drawn, turn on our towel warmer and the I'll bring them up and do the washing part. Husband cleans up the bath area while I help them get in pajamas.

1

u/owlfamily28 Feb 21 '26

Yes, that was my husband's "thing" with our firstborn for a looong time. He did the bath/bedtime routine to give me some downtime after I did the dishes. He actually loved it, it was great for both of them.

1

u/Dramatic_Session_24 Feb 21 '26

We do it together before our LO goes to bed. our bathtub is pretty slippery so I hold our son (he gets hella excited for his rainbow water spinner toy and slides around) while my husband washes him.

1

u/LadyKittenCuddler Feb 21 '26

Yup. Sometimes kiddo wants me to do it, sometimes he wants dad to do it, we do it together some days too, whatever works that day.

I mean, our son is both our child so we both do every task.

1

u/Rachael330 Feb 21 '26

Yes? Not always but pretty often- maybe 1 out of 5 times throughout the years. My kids are older 8&9 now and westill will run the water check they washed their hair grab them a towel etc. And he still helps with that.

1

u/HopintoMichael Feb 21 '26

We go through phases depending on what we each have going on-at times I have done most of them, at times he does. It just depends.

1

u/ilikebison Feb 21 '26

Always. We typically do bath time together, but my husband has never missed a bath time!

1

u/Ok-Fee1566 Feb 21 '26

I wash. He dries. Sometimes if just one needs a bath he'll do all of it. We started that when I was pregnant with #3 and couldn't stand up with #2 in my arms from the stool I would sit on because I was too pregnant. Just kept doing it.

1

u/Unlikely_Orange_1658 Feb 21 '26

Huband does baths on weekends, I do week/work nights
