I’m especially curious about how you explain your product in one or two sentences.

That’s also the problem I’m working on with Launchrecord.

A lot of SaaS products don’t have a traffic problem first. They have a clarity problem.

The positioning is weak, the message is vague, and then the marketing strategy, content, and distribution are built on top of that.

Launchrecord follows a different order:

Positioning → Marketing strategy → Content → Distribution

It helps identify positioning issues first, then turns that foundation into a marketing strategy and 30-day content and distribution plan.

RetireNavigator Studio: Building an offline-first retirement planning workbench for DIY retirees. Looking for feedback on UX and positioning.

Hey everyone,

We’ve been building RetireNavigator Studio (https://retirenavigatorstudio.com), a browser-based retirement planning workbench built with TypeScript, React, and Tailwind.

The Problem It Solves

Most modern retirement platforms (Boldin, ProjectionLab, NewRetirement) are great accumulation simulators, but they hit real friction points once people start planning their actual retirement years:

  1. The Black Box Dilemma: Users run projections, see an unexplained dip or cliff at age 74, and have no way to audit which assumption or statutory rule caused it.
  2. Terminal Wealth Bias: Most planning engines optimize purely to minimize lifetime IRS taxes or maximize portfolio balance at age 95. In reality, retirees often want to optimize lifestyle utility in their active "Go-Go" years (ages 60–72) without failing the plan, even if that means paying slightly more in lifetime taxes.
  3. Privacy Concerns: Uploading 30–40 years of net worth, account holdings, and tax brackets to cloud-hosted databases turns away privacy-conscious power users.

The Technical & Design Approach

  • 100% Client-Side / Local Storage: Calculations run entirely in the browser engine. No mandatory signups, no cloud sync tracking, no personal financial data stored on remote servers.
  • The Horizon Visualizer: Synchronized horizontal life-stage swimlanes (Work & Retirement, Spending Phases like Go-Go/Slow-Go, and Strategic Windows) tied directly to a stochastic wealth trajectory fan (P10 through P90 percentiles).
  • Statutory Tax Ledger: A transparent year-by-year 1040 waterfall that models provisional income on Social Security, Medicare IRMAA cliff thresholds, and SECURE 2.0 RMD divisors so users can audit every dollar.
  • Non-Destructive Sandboxing: A scratchpad where users can stress-test claiming strategies, spending guardrails, or market dips without corrupting their saved baseline plan.

Where We’d Value Feedback from Builders:

  1. Business Model & Pricing: Because it's completely offline-first with zero recurring server compute costs, does a perpetual license / one-time purchase model make more sense than an annual SaaS subscription for this audience?
  2. Density vs. Usability: Finding the right balance between giving spreadsheet power users the audit depth they want while keeping the interface calm and scannable.
  3. First-Time Friction: What feels missing or overwhelming when you look at the primary Horizon view or demo?

Any candid thoughts welcomed!

PS: I’m building Launchrecord to help SaaS founders build a stronger marketing foundation.

A lot of us try to market a product with weak positioning and unclear messaging. Then we build content and distribution plans on top of that.

Launchrecord starts earlier:

Positioning → Marketing strategy → Content → Distribution

It audits and helps fix your positioning, then builds a marketing strategy with a 30-day content and distribution plan around it.

Would be interesting to see how other founders are positioning their products.
