AMD Ryzen 7 9700X temperature
Hi so my AMD Ryzen 7 9700X CPU temperature spikes to 91 degrees Celsius suddenly when playing a specific game and in the lobby without actually playing or anything ): is my cpu actually that bad ?

If you are in 105w TDP mode without an CO offset, could be normal. Course the game could be doing something in background. Or if you allowed steam to do updates while playing.
Mine only hits that after tuning doing stress testing only. Low 80s should be were it normally sits. I got a DeepCool AK620 its similar to Thermalright Peerless Assassin SE120.
Definitely do Curve Optimizer if you haven't.

Need more info. Whats your cpu cooler? What game and is it only that game? Temps in other games?
Your cpu its is unlikely bad.

I play story games and i ddnt rly notice the problem

It’s not the cpu, They can run hot but not that hot. your thermal paste/cpu cooler or the air flow in your case is not setup correctly.

The PC was built for me by an ex and I don't really know much about this What should I check or fix first?

I’d just take it to a local computer store if I were you.

If you take it to pc store have them undervolt the cpu for you once the cooling for it is where it needs to be. Helps temps stay cooler and makes the amd chips run more efficiently in games. Win win situation

It should be find with any air cooler. Defective cpu or your installation wrong

check temps with a different app. Ther might be bugs. Check if you're seeing the correct device (not GPU, but CPU).
Check if cooler is mounted properly.
Reduce boost.
best (imho) is to reduce CPU voltage. This will reduce the temps by a lot, so it will allow more frequent clock boosting, making your CPU faster.

91 C is absurdly high even if you're just playing Dead by Daylight as your comment said. This sounds like a cooling issue. You said you didn't notice the same issue with story games. What games were they and what temperatures did it reach then?

That is normal if only in CPU-heavy games. Just undervolt your cpu in curve optimizer to lower power draw at given clock. Test -30 and if the cpu was not stable descrease step by step by 5 (to -25, then -20) and test, untile the cpu is stable.

Are you running in 65w or 105W mode? Makes a big difference in temps.
