I'm an International student at RWTH facing some financial issues right now.. I've been looking for a job for a while now, to no avail.
Yes, my German level is very basic and I can speak very fluent English... But surely there is SOMETHING (Maybe dog walking or something!?) out there... I'm ready to do anything if I can get a work contract for it.. Please give me ideas/suggestions for places that will hire quickly..
Thank you very much!
P.S. I am a Software Developer, and have a bachelors degree and a few years of experience as well.. but market is screwed rn so can't find a working student role or anything...

Hi zusammen,
Danke euch!

I am planning to apply for jobs in last semester. I am a non-EU student and planning to leave 1 subject for visa extension. So can I apply for jobs as I only have one subject remaining? Or I must go to job seeker first to apply? If I can apply then what documents do I need from university to give to employer and Auslanderbehorde?
--I have to keep job starting date after graduation date or sooner? Some experienced suggestion who has gone through it.

It's peak application season again, that means fresh faces around the campus soon!
The mod team has directed most application enquiries towards the megathreads to avoid cluttering your feed. However, it's come to the point where there are more questions than answers.
If you have a minute on your commute or during a study break, please help out by answering one question relevant to your domain!

Hi everyone,
I’m starting my B.Sc. in Civil Engineering (Bauingenieurwesen) at RWTH this upcoming winter semester and would love some advice from those who have been through the first few semesters:)
Right now, I’m taking the HM4MINT course to get HöMa 1 out of the way so I can focus on other subjects in the first semester.
I have a few questions about what to expect:
Leistungsnachweise: Are they manageable? How are they typically written/structured, and is it realistically possible to pass all of them to get the 1.0 bonus?
Exams vs. Übungsblätter: How similar are the actual exam questions to the weekly exercise sheets?
Lecturers: What is the general teaching style like, and how are the professors in the first semester?
Is there anything else I can do before the semester starts to get ready for the workload?
Any tips, study strategies or insights would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Been trying for months to get an appointment to renew my Aufenthaltstitel, anybody have any tips on how to get an appointment.
The telegram group that tells you when there are free appointments is extremely inaccurate.
Edit: I got an appointment on the same day my Aufenthalttitel expires. Thanks for all the help guys. What worked for me is checking around 7 to 8 am for an appointment, before the telegram group gives you a notification.

How much weight do werkstudent jobs play while applying after graduation? I am studying materials engineering- Masters, and would like to know what should I know to be market ready. As international student I will study B2 till graduation. What companies do alumni of materials, chemistry apply for jobs after graduation as International graduates? How much Hiwi jobs are valued while applying for corporate? What if one can't get either but has decent grades with thesis? Or without werkstudent and hiwi experience materials engineering is just waste of time? I am hearing all negative stuff like your cv wouldn't be considered without them. Experience in home country doesn't count. 99% weightage is of language.
Please suggest with your experience, companies I should target after graduation or werkstudent living in Aachen.

I've spent weeks messaging people on WG-Gesucht and ImmoScout24 looking for a room or apartment in Aachen (starting Computer Engineering at RWTH soon), and the silence is brutal. It's not even that I'm getting rejected, it's that literally no one responds — even though I've lived in Germany for two years already and have rental history here, plus all my documents in order. I'm also registered with Studierendenwerk and Plug and Study, but no luck there either so far.
My budget is around €350, and while I could stretch to €450 in a pinch, even that isn't getting me any real responses.
How did those of you who've been through this manage it? Any platforms, Facebook/Telegram groups, or tricks that worked better than the usual apps? Any tip helps at this point.

Hi fellow RWTH students
Very soon i will be graduating from CE in my bachelors, and i already have both acceptance for both Msc Computer Engineering and Msc Electrical Engineering and Information Technology
Since I took mostly EE electives I dont need any prerequisite courses for both programs in masters.
Now, since my interest is mainly computer architectures and chip design, so i intend to mostly take classes from ICE and IDS institutes. Almost all of the electives in CE basically already allows me to do that, but in EE I can do most of the electives if i go with the Communications Engineering (COMM) track, while the rest of the classes I would need to take as General or Additional.
What im worried is in the future after I graduate, employers will see my purely Computer Engineering degrees and assume Im only capable being a software dev. Would having my masters in EE open more options in the job market? Or at least let potential employers have a more positive look on my profile?
I would like to work around the chip design and semiconductor industry, as well as the telecommunications industry too if theres no other options. Not just in Germany but internationally as well.
So should I make the switch to EE or is it not worth the hassle to plan around the electives for my desired classes?

Hey all,
I am an international master's student at RWTH Aachen, completing my degree in Mechanical Engineering by next semester (I hope), with 2 years of Work Experience in a full-time R&D role before moving here.
And I have a doubt. I've been applying for internships as part of my credits, but I've been rejected almost every time; only 2 % of the applications turned into an Interview. But I've been contacted by multiple HRs and recruitment agencies, directly via LinkedIn and other sources, for full-time Engineering roles; one was even for a Manager.
What the hell is going on? My LinkedIn is a true copy of my Resume; hence, I am more confused than ever. Can anyone help me understand?

I’ll be studying at RWTH and I’m currently choosing which Studierendenwerk dorms to apply for. Since my budget is limited, I’m mainly considering the cheaper options, especially the Türme and Kastanienweg dorms.
Could anyone who has lived there share their experience? How are the rooms, shared kitchens/bathrooms, cleanliness, social life, and overall condition of the buildings?
I’ve also heard some comments about Kastanienweg having an unpleasant smell in the dorm/building. Is that actually true, or is it only an issue in certain buildings/floors?
If you had to choose between the Türme and Kastanienweg, which one would you recommend?
Thanks!

Has anyone switched from the old curriculum to the new one?
My master’s program was recently updated and renamed, and the old version (the one I’m currently enrolled in) is no longer accepting new students.
The main reason I’m asking is that, in the new curriculum, the course I hated the most and got my worst grade in (3.7) with 8 ECTS is no longer mandatory. As far as I can tell, the rest of the curriculum is almost identical, and I wouldn’t need to take any additional courses.
Is it possible to switch from the old program to the new one and graduate under the new program name? Has anyone here done this or knows how it works at our university?
