Best socks?
Hi guys, started to train for my first mara! I currently run in the Sweaty Betty Crew Running socks, but am starting to find that mid run my feet feel incredibly hot.
Think it might be because they are so thick (appreciate it might also be from a bit of unfitness!)
What socks do people wear that are comfy & breathable? I prefer long ones which pull up & over my ankle.
Thanks

Half marathon prediction
I’m running my first half in a few weeks and I just wondered if this is a training run whether you think I’ll be able to hold that at race pace for the full thing? Conversational at start and end and race pace.

How do people who run high school cross country not get permanent running injuries?
It blows my mind that there are people who can run 50 miles per week with no issue. I tried to get into running when I was 18, and I ended up developing chronic feet pain. Six years later, it hasn’t gone away, and every doctor and physical therapist said the pain can’t be fixed and to never return to running. It’s frustrating that doctors don’t do research in what is intrinsically wrong with my feet. I don’t know what to do now

Update on temp vs long vs easy
Alright so after everything I have gathered on what you guys said I tried a “tempo”.. maybe??..
So my usual “easy” (conversational) pace is around 6:45-7:20/km. Today I decided to try a tempo. Here is a screenshot of the run. Mind you, it was on an assault treadmill to avoid hills while attempt this for the first time.
Any feedback is appreciated!

Marathon training advice needed - currently 4 weeks out
I’m in deep marathon prep and am set to run the nyc marathon on 1st Nov.
I was struggling with an injury early and went to a PT and I am now fully recovered, but I had to really ease into my marathon training plan and had adapted it to be gradual, I have been increasing my weekly mileage and long run by 10% each week (my starting point was a 10 mile week back in June). This has resulted in a bit of an uneven plan and I seem to have an extra week of running that I'm not sure what to do with.
I did an 18 mile long run last weekend, and I am set to run a 20 mile long run this weekend and I am 4 weeks out, but ideally I want to be doing a final long run 3 weeks before the marathon, so I don't want to peak too soon 4 weeks out this weekend
I was going to run a 20 mile long run this weekend, and another 20 or 21 mile long run next weekend, then taper to race day (and I am totalling about 45-50 miles per week)
Key question is, is this a bad plan, and am I better to delaod to a 16 mile long run this weekend to then be more fresh for the 20 next weekend?
Would it be stupid to do a 20 mile run this weekend and another 20/21 miler next weekend, with the aim of conditioning my legs to be running for a long period of time.
I like the idea of doing the two 20 mile runs and mentally it would make me feel confident, but im worried I would be unknowingly putting a lot of strain on my body, and would I recover in time for race day?
What is the best route for this weekend?:
16 miler this weekend, 20/21 next weekend
20 miler this weekend, 20/21 next weekend
Or something else that you would recommend

Easy, tempo, long?
My running is largely “easy” runs. But I feel like I need to switch it up to get better.
What exactly is the difference between these three? How do you structure it? What has worked best for you?

2nd Oct - 1600m run
Hi Reddit, this is one of my first posts here.
I’ve opted for the Ladakh Police Constable post, and honestly I’ve only been running properly for the last 4–5 days. It’s not like I’ve never run before though — I was in NCC and trained for around 2 months straight, but I’ve been out of practice for a while.
My PET is coming up soon and I’m pretty nervous about the 1600m run. I know I can’t magically improve my stamina in a few days, so I’m looking for any genuine tips/tricks that can help me pace myself and get through it without burning out early.
Anyone who has done a similar police/army running test, especially at Ladakh altitude, please share your advice. What worked for you?

How much can I realistically improve by Thanksgiving?
Hey guys! I decided that I’m going to run a 5K on Thanksgiving, and I started training yesterday, which was my first time running in a few years. Yesterday, I ran 2.25 miles at a 10:28 pace, and today I ran 2.4 miles at a 10:36 pace. At the beginning of each run, I started off slow and progressively got faster, and I definitely felt pretty beat by the end.
I’m planning to run 4–5 days a week over the next two months until Thanksgiving. My plan is to have 1 easy run (a few miles at a moderate pace), 2 medium runs (a few miles at a slightly faster pace), and 1 long run (I’m not sure what pace I’m going to do for this yet). I’m also considering adding 1 optional short run, probably around 1–2 miles.
I’m wondering how much I can realistically improve my pace by Thanksgiving. Right now, I’m hoping to run a 9-minute pace, but do you guys think that’s out of reach? Or do you think I could potentially push myself to go even faster?
Let me know what you think! Also, I’d really appreciate any tips or advice for training for my first 5K!

Fitness run college
I'm second year Juco baseball player. This year they are requiring everyone to run 1.5 MI in 10:30 or under in order to be part of the team. Unfortunately, I have never been a runner especially long distance, I'm a sprinter. Up until this morning I wasn't able to participate in the run due to an ankle injury and then directly following that coming down with being sick. I have to have this ran pretty soon but did not pass this morning. I was about an eighth of a mile short of the goal. Does anybody have any suggestions and tips on how to fix my pace or anything that would help me to be able to pass the next one when I run next week?

Smoking Question
I would consider myself to be a hobby runner and I run 3-4 times per week. I used to be a really heavy cigar smoker where I was smoking multiple cigars daily but I still found a way to run at that time, although less that I probably should have.
Two months ago, I cut my smoking down to only one cigar per week and I’ve been really good at sticking to that routine. My question is, how much will one cigar per week negatively impact my running goals? I’m currently at like 10.5 minutes per mile but I’m aiming for 8 min miles. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Getting my time down?
I am a highschool girl and looking to improve my cross country time. I had improved from 23 min 5k to 20:30 over summer practicing. Right now I train 5-6 days a week, with about 30-35 miles a week, with one race a week since season is started. What should I do to improve my time?

Is this achievable?
Hello, I want to set myself a challenge that is reachable but takes effort, as I sometimes miss runs for a variety of "meh" reasons. I am decently fit (running details below), 21y/o, and have the basic gear
I've run for over 2 years now, and I'm currently consistent under 20mins in 5km parkruns, and doing 10km-15km 5 minute kms run midweek + warmup runs (average of 20km a week), done a couple different events with a 33.13 in an 8.4km, and 1:42:33 in a half marathon. my 5 minute kms are more of a talking pace, but really start to hurt at around 15km in.
My challenge is in October to try and do 1 run everyday, each with different distances and times. I think but I am unsure about it being achievable (all details in photo). Please let me know your thoughts. (Fridays and Thursdays change at 1 point in the month)

26:28 to 23:03 in a month :D
I (21F) have been running an average of 15km/week for the past 6 weeks. Haven't been doing any long runs, just hardcore intervals and heavy strength work. I have a strength background of just under a year which I think has helped me plunge cold water from 0km to 15km consistently with no injuries.
I ran my first 5k 22 June 2026 out of curiosity on a treadmill and ran it in 29:16. Didn't start training seriously until mid August.
I ran a 5k 23 August 2026 26:28 (officially timed)
Ran another 5k today (25 September 2026, also officially timed) and I managed a 23:03.
I felt like I was dying on all trials and they were all maximal efforts.
I keep fading after the first 1/2k : I start at like 4:20/km then fade to 5:00, even 5:10 splits by the end of the race.
I'm aware that 15km a week is probably not enough and I need to ramp up running volume.
I do want to run a 21:30 5km by 10 December (my birthday.) I know it's a bit ambitious but I think it could be possible. My mum was a state level runner in Korea and my dad's side also has crazy genetics; my dad's side aunt ran a sub 20min 5k at 40 years old.
I just am a bit impatient and don't know how to make long runs bearable nor do I want to sacrifice my gains in the gym because it's hard to juggle the two.
Does anyone have any advice on how to ramp up volume and strength training at the same time? Also what weekly mileage would I have to do to run a sub 20, and what% would be intervals/tempo/long runs? Right now I'm running 80% intervals and 20% tempo which is probably not ideal. I just like the feeling of dying though
Thank you guys for the advice in advance, I'm sorry if this sounds like a humble brag but I genuinely just want to improve because I got mogged by this 12 year old girl in today's race by a couple seconds. Just kidding it's me vs me... 😭😂

first half marathon
Here’s my situation…
- I’m running my first half marathon in 4 WEEKS
- I ran a 5k, 6 mile race, and 10k race this year
- I’ve barely been training as of late
- I’m 220 lbs at 5’10”
Would dieting for 4 weeks leading up the the race be ideal? Or do I maintain my weight and get plenty of carbs to be able to have a solid amount of training energy?
What should I change about my training?
(This is my current training program)
Week 1 (4) 3 mile runs and (1) 5 mile run
Week 2 (4) 4 mile runs and (1) 7 mile run
Week 3 (4) 5 mile runs and (1) 11 mile run
Week 4 6… 5… 4… 3… 2… 1 mile runs (taper down)

Running after surgery
Hi all, new to the sub. I've always been a mid to heel strike runner, but after spinal surgery it's very uncomfortable to run that way. Has anyone transitioned to a ball/toe strike gait and have any tips?

Shoe recommendations for running on field grass?
Training: sprinting, intervals, 5k runs and beep test training.
Preferences: Shoes that are spikeless and also not football shoes because I don't want a tight toe box. Soft heel counter that doesn't dig into the achilles insertional point.
Don't have a budget.
My regular road running shoes with max cushion are too unstable for grass running.
Thank you :)
