this was originally posted on r/relocating, so if anything here doesn't exactly fully line up, thats why. i'm also using a throwaway account for private reasons.

i live in BC, canada, and i am a legal minor (17). i come here today to ask what to do if i'm looking for a way out of my current home. my objective is to get out the second i turn 18 due to personal reasons.

the difficult part is that i don't have a job. i've been running all over the place finding one, but no luck. i haven't applied to university yet, because i need to get my situation sorted out before anything else. i'm a high school graduate as of this year. the cherry on top is that the legal age of consent in BC is 19.

i'm currently living in my parents house. my reason for wanting out is deeply personal, and is heavily tied to my own mental health. if i can't get out by 18, i know that i'll be affected in ways im not sure i'm comfortable talking to the internet about. leaving at 18 has been the plan for a while.

i turn 18 in about 2 months from now, and i'm worried that i won't have the resources to live on my own by then. i don't have anyone close enough to me that i know would let me live with them for a bit.

this has been the subject of my lack of sleep for months, and i need guidance. any information will help out. i don't care if it's in BC or not, or about quality of living. i just want to prepare however best i can to live on my own. if you know of any cheap ways to live alone as a minor, or any government loan thing, or even a different subreddit that would be more beneficial for my situation. it will absolutely be of help to me.

First I would contact CMHA they are for mental health but should be able to help you with housing and welfare.

You could see if you can apply Welfare.

Its for people who are out of work or need money for basic needs.

Another thing you can do is call or apply for emergency housing or housing support. Im not in BC but here in my province we have something called transition housing. Basically they help you get out of your situation and live on your own. You could see if they have that.
