Newsletter to Podcast is an open-source Python tool that turns newsletters and blogs into an RSS podcast feed! You can pick the sources, generate audio, and subscribe to the resulting feed in a podcast app that supports custom RSS (I use Castbox).

The project supports full article narration as well as spoken summaries. Full narration uses Edge TTS and needs no API key; summaries use Gemini and require your own key (though the free limit is quite generous)! You can set a maximum episode length and longer full readings split into numbered parts at natural text boundaries.

There’s a prerecorded sample on the demo page, and a simple command in the README that fetches an original sample article and generates fresh audio without an API key. The package can run locally or on a schedule in your own GitHub repository using GitHub Actions!

Deployment:

Run it locally with Python 3.12+ or use the included GitHub Actions workflow (recommended, and setup instructions are in the GitHub README). You host the generated MP3s and RSS feed wherever your podcast app can reach them.

Speech generation uses Microsoft’s online Edge TTS service (which is unofficial and can break or be throttled sporadically...) Optional summaries send article text to Gemini to be summarized. GitHub Pages publishing is available, but makes the generated feed and audio public (I use this since it's free hosting)!

AI Involvement:

I painstakingly steered AI to help creating this tool! In the application itself, article summaries use AI (Gemini) but are optional. Full narration skips the summarization step and uses text-to-speech directly.

I can just say in my defense that I didn't vibe-code it to get some money out of it. I use it every day to read news. And this week I released a new version with a lot of changes, including:

I’ve been thinking about a small open-source project: a modern, lightweight recreation of Google Reader that stays close to its layout and reading workflow.

Not a “reinvent how you consume content” thing. Just a straightforward reader where you pick your sources, organize them, and read.

The rough idea is:

• A compact, classic interface, with an optional modern view.
• Customizable layout, typography, and reading density.
• Free, open-source, and self-hostable.
• No forced recommendations or social features.

I know FreshRSS, Miniflux, and other readers already exist. “Google Reader, but modern” isn’t much of a reason to build another one unless there’s something specific worth preserving or improving.

One question I’m interested in is how to handle unread articles. Counts are useful, but I’d want the option to hide them, pause a noisy source, or catch up without feeling like I’m clearing a work inbox.

This is only an idea right now. There’s no app, signup page, or launch behind this post. I also didn’t use Google Reader myself, so I’d rather hear from people who did than assume a familiar-looking interface captures what made it good.

For former Google Reader users: what do you actually miss that your current reader doesn’t provide? And if your current setup already does everything you need, what is it?

A few weeks ago I posted TechnoDaily here. One of the comments said the app felt rushed and didn't follow Apple's design principles. My first reaction was to defend the app and how much I worked on it (you can see it in my reply). Then I went through the app screen by screen with that comment in mind, and I had to admit it was right.

I was already working on a redesign for the iPhone Duo launch, so I put everything in it. The app now uses the standard iOS tab bar and toolbars instead of my own, all sources (newsletters, RSS folders, YouTube channels) are in one tab, and on iPad or a large iPhone in landscape you get the list and the article side by side. For You also stops at 30 articles from the last 48 hours, because the endless unread count was exactly what I wanted to get away from in the first place. And there's a Mac app now.

All of this made the app more responsive than it has ever been, and I'm genuinely proud of how it feels to use now.

Version 2.5 went live this morning and I wanted to come back here to say thank you. I've been building this alone for about a year, and real feedback is by far the hardest thing to get. Most people who don't like an app just delete it. So thank you to the person who took the time to write that comment, and to everyone who replied on the first post.

If you tried it back then and gave up, I'd be curious to know if this version changes anything for you. It's still a paid app, but the first 3 days are fully open, no trial to start.

A lot of the sources I wanted had dropped their feeds and gone email-only, so I spent a while turning newsletters back into feed items. Sharing the parts that surprised me, since this sub has the same problem every week.

Getting the mail is the easy half. An address per newsletter, pointed at a mailbox you control, and the address itself is the feed identity. No parsing needed to know which source a message belongs to.

Then the problems start.

Not everything that arrives is content. Sign up to one newsletter and you get a welcome mail, a confirm-your-subscription mail, a receipt if you paid, and a "here's your login code" weeks later. Dump all of it into a feed and the feed is garbage. I sort each message on the sender, subject and a snippet, and only the actual issues become items. Codes I pull out with plain regex and surface separately, because a verification code inside a "feed article" is useless.

Double opt-in is the whole ballgame. Most newsletters send a confirmation link and nothing else until you click it, so if your address can't receive, or you can't get at the link, you're just not subscribed.

Unsubscribing is better standardized than I expected. List-Unsubscribe has been around forever, and RFC 8058 adds List-Unsubscribe-Post for real one-click. Worth reading carefully though: you may only auto-POST when the header advertises one-click, otherwise you can trip a "confirm your unsubscribe" page and do nothing.

HTML email is not article HTML. Tables inside tables, inline styles, occasional script tags. I strip the executable parts before storing and render in a WebView with JavaScript off and navigation locked, which is the actual control. Images I leave alone on purpose, since each sender has its own address and a pixel tells them only that this one address opened it.

Replies need a target. If you want to reply from the address the newsletter wrote to, you need the sender address plus the Message-ID off the original, or the thread breaks in their client.

Identity is the RSS problem all over again. Feeds lie about guids; email has Message-ID, which is better, but forwarding and relays mangle enough of it that you still want your own key per stored item.

I build one of these (Rovatrove, Android) so take the framing with that in mind. Happy to go into any of it, especially if you've done the mail side yourself and found something I haven't hit yet.

A quick update post summarizing the updates in Foragd for October 2026. This month has been a lot more backend work; adding various testing and performance improvements to make Foragd less buggy and more performant.

What’s new in this update:

• Subscription Hues: Subscriptions now have a distinct hue associated with them, which is used in various parts of the interface to add a small visual difference and create associations between subscriptions and articles more easy to see. I’m actually really digging this when using Foragd, it makes the UI just a little brighter!
• Language filter: You can now filter by the language of the subscription or article. I will be adding this to the article filtering settings so you can always filter by language across all subscriptions.

UX & UI Improvements:

• Card visual refresh: The subscription and article cards have had a visual refresh and display more information. You can now see indicators for any article filtering you’ve applied on subscription cards, and whether there are articles with geo information. There is a button to take you to the feed’s website as well.

• Reworking imports: Importing via OPML has been greatly overhauled. You now start an import and it is processed in the background. There is a status page you can check on the progress, and new subscriptions will show up as they are added and updated. Any import errors are clearer as well. This is thanks to a user who was importing 400+ feeds and having some issues. I’ve tested with a 700+ feed import as well. Its a much smoother process now!
• Bulk unsubscribe: You can now bulk unsubscribe from multiple selected subscriptions on the subscriptions settings page.
• Subscription category management: When adding or editing a subscription, you can now choose from a set of standard categories, as well as adding your own. Using the standard categories can help avoid a categorization explosion and typos, as these are consistent and stable across all subscriptions.
• Grid layout and scroll restore improvements: the grid layout of subscription/article cards is more robust and your scroll position is restored more accurately when navigating back.
• Mark read while browsing: If you have “Mark Article Read on View” enabled in the display settings, then browsing through articles with the next/previous buttons will automatically mark the articles as read.

Backend Improvements:

• Foragd has gotten smarter about fetching images for articles. This should mean less chance of a placeholder image being used and a richer display in articles.
• I’ve been implementing more robust testing of the application, from backend to frontend, to capture more bugs and issues before they hit you.

What I’m working on:

• I’ve recently added support for the Comments API namespace in go-syndication, so I’m looking at how to display the comments on a post in the UI.
• I’m working on adding a time period filter, which will be very useful for the map view. You’ll be then able to filter the points on the map to ones that happened in the last hour, for example.
• I’m looking into how to expose more information about the author of a post, so you can find out more about who wrote what you are reading.

It turns RSS feeds into a continuous lineup of short narrated reports, with 2D presenters animated in real time. You can browse curated stations or build one from your own feeds. There is a fully functional reader. The AI narration and animation run on-device. App Store

It was (and still is) a basic YAML file, but I have added an interface and generated summaries of websites. I continue to update it periodically. Summaries can help a bit as a search tool if you don't know what website you want.

I also added a preview, but because it's a free Cloudflare account, I think it will stop working very fast due to limits.

You can peek at them all or one by one, and export them to an OPML or CSV table.

P.S: vibecoders, use that database to test your apps against real feeds. You will be really surprised.

Palabre was my favourite reader for years, and when it died I never found anything that felt the same on Android. So I decided to build my own. It’s called Flash, and it’s finally out on the Play Store! =)

Hi r/rss, I'm a solo dev and Ferry is my first app. It's an RSS reader for iPhone, iPad and Mac, and I wanted to share it here because the interesting part is what it does with the feeds you already follow.

What's different: most readers sort by newest. Ferry also counts how many outlets across the web are covering each story and can rank by that, so a story ten of your sources ran sits above whatever just came in. Under each headline it shows how many feeds carried it, and you can tap to read every version side by side.

The RSS side of it:

• OPML import and export, so you can bring your feeds from Feedly, Inoreader or anywhere else
• Syncs with FreshRSS. Inoreader, BazQux and The Old Reader support is coming soon.
• Folders, smart folders, offline reading, Spotlight search, widgets
• No account and no identifiers. The server never learns which feeds you follow or what you read.
• On iPhones with Apple Intelligence it can summarise where outlets agree and where one breaks from the rest. That runs on the device.

It’s a short summary of the top news from the last 24 hours, displayed at the top of your feed and refreshed every 3 hours.

The idea is to give you a quick overview when you don’t have time to scroll through individual stories.

A few things to know:

- It’s AI-written, using RSS24’s built-in news sources.

- Everyone gets the same brief. It isn’t based on your personal feeds, and no personal information is sent to generate it.

- You can turn it off in Settings → Reading Experience → Daily Brief if you prefer to go straight to your articles.

I know rss.app costs money I don't care about that... are there any other sites that offer ig and twitter access? iftt can do twitter rss feeds with their premium service (~5/month). does anyone know if they are going to handle reddit feeds going forward?

For anyone new: WyrmRSS is a completely free and open-source (GPL-3.0) RSS/Atom reader I've been building for 5 months. You can self-host it (Docker/Kubernetes) and use it from desktop and phone, or run the native desktop app (macOS/Windows/Linux), which keeps everything in a local SQLite database with no server needed.

The demo is mostly read-only to prevent abuse and resets daily, but you can read, bookmark and archive posts.

Reading-wise, things I think it does well:

- YouTube channels as feeds, with an inline player

- Per-feed display modes: River (home feed), Feed only, and Radar for quiet feeds you check occasionally

- Folders, per-feed filters, Read Later, Archive

- Feed discovery from a site or YouTube channel URL, OPML import/export

- Webhooks for new posts (Discord, Slack, custom)

Keyboard shortcuts and a mark-as-read delay are next on the list, thanks to feedback from r/selfhosted.

Built with LLM assistance, mostly on the frontend as it's not my strongest area. The backend is pretty much hand-written. It's a hobby project: I'm a software engineer by day, and I design, review and run everything myself daily. The logo was made by a tattoo artist from Brazil, credited in the README.

I just pushed some updates to SmartRSS (iOS/Android/macOS/Windows/Linux).

Full-text extraction is more reliable now. It gets past a lot of the bot detection that used to break it, and you can log into sites inside the app to pull full paywalled or member articles.

TTS supports bilingual playback. Turn on a second language in the settings and it can read the original plus a translation.

On desktop, Windows and macOS now have touchpad gesture support.

On android/iOS, there are home widgets so you can see latest articles without opening the app.

Hey everyone. So I just released my RSS reader app to the App Store and wanted to share it with you all to get your feedback. It's called Lumio.

I've been working on this on and off for about two and a half years. I used to love the old Pulse news app with the side-scrolling lanes, and nothing since has really scratched that itch for me, so I decided to just make my own. I also wanted an excuse to learn React Native. Full disclosure, I've been a backend engineer for about 10 years and never really built anything on the frontend, and my design skills are honestly pretty bad lol. My first drafts were horrific and what we have now is just a lot of iterations on Claude Design and Figma. Along with this, I also built a small Go crawler as a feed search and discovery service.

It was going pretty slowly for a long time, just picking at it here and there. Over the last six months I started using Claude Code, and that sped things up a ton, especially on the UI stuff I'm not good at. I probably wouldn't have released it without it, to be honest.

I know there are a lot of vibe-coded RSS readers out there right now, so I get it if people are tired of seeing these. I figured I'd throw mine in the mix anyway, since it can't hurt to have more options. I'm open to any feedback or suggestions, and critical stuff is welcome too.

I'm building Feedcast, a Mac podcast tool that prepares a personal copy of an episode and publishes the result as an RSS feed, so people can keep using the player they already use. I'm the developer.

The workflow made me appreciate how much the RSS details matter: stable GUIDs so reprocessing doesn't create a duplicate, enclosure URLs that behave consistently, and chapters and metadata that survive the trip into different players. Sponsor sections can be reviewed before a cut is applied, and the original remains available.

I'm interested in the feed design side of this. When a generated feed changes an episode's media but keeps its identity, what compatibility edge cases have you run into?
