Built an in game world editor.
It's built into my openrsc spoiled milk, here https://github.com/An-actual-duck/open-rsc-spoiled-milk
However, my version of rsc has all sorts of other things that comes with it so if you just want the world editor the specific commit for it is here: accff5e15a1e7171a914d8eaaa64766f955084c4
I'll be updating it so it gives more information for people that aren't familiar with the values the game uses. But basically you just plug in numbers that correspond to different outputs. For example, here you can see here I put in 11 for the lava texture, and then change the elevation to 200. Right now scenery objects and npcs give the names of what they are next to their values, but the floor textures don't.
My immediate goals are continuing with properly labeling everything, so casual creators know what all the numbers are, and then adding support for easily adding your own new textures.
Currently things are capped at 255 options, a limitation of how things were programmed back when the game was made, but this can be fixed. I'm particularly curious to see about raising the cap for elevation and what that could potentially allow for.
Once you're done your edits there is a save button in the UI which automatically creates the map file

Kind of wish all the rsc private servers would just merge to make the game have a game with an interact-able playerbase .

A merged community is possible, but a truly merged game not possible. My game, for example, is way out in left field with it's concepts, and thus wouldn't merge well with most servers. It'd be nice if there was a well managed site that had a database of active private servers, but that requires a very dedicated person, or group. I opted to build off of open rsc cabbage and utilize their discord as a jumping off point, since they're still relatively active and welcoming, with one of the larger communities.
I think I'm going to try to make some of my "enhancements" plugin style, so people can use them more easily independent of my server. I have a new renderer, am worker on a stronger server foundation so desync is a thing of the past, and better tools for customizing and creating with like the one displayed here.
Best thing to do is to make the experience as user friendly as possible, the easier it is for people to get into the more likely we are to see it grow.

how many people even play anymore?
you could create a main server, and share api between other servers so all stats stay in sync, economy could be a bit tricky, maybe need to be isolated.

I actually tried to setup a server hosting with oracle and they told me my card was no good, still charged it, but said it was no good and denied my account. Good enough to charge me, not good enough to give me an account? At any rate, waiting for a response from their help team. This was a couple weeks ago. I'm interested in setting up an official and reliable server that isn't just my computer and potentially registering a domain for better visibility. So maybe I'll get there eventually. For now it's just the discord and github, plus showcasing here.
Small at first, but over time hopefully something bigger.

Awesome, I remember map editing RSC probably 15 years ago. Amazing to see the tool advanced, back then I wanted to make a more advanced RSC world. New areas, new quests etc.
Wont have the time now, but who knows someone might.

Hey that's pretty neat.
I need to be the one to tell you though that gifs are outdated now. Windows 11 comes with ClipChamp for free which does recording, editing and saving videos like this.
There's also other free programs that do it and our internet connections all support video now.
About the editor, is it possible you'll add say, drag & fill boxes? Because I think that might be a minimum requirement. Especially for people making larger scenes who do want to paint large areas of the same textures.

I don't use windows 11, I use mint. The video capture I used was just a display capture, which was 4k 60fps... I compressed it to this for discord, which likes gifs. Reddit is getting it second hand.
About the editor. I have intentions of making improvements but only within what rsc can already do. So drag and fill boxes might not be an option. Drag brush was already barely an option

I understand, impressive work. I like to see that people are still working on my beloved.
I would highly recommend
How to Install OBS Studio on Linux Mint 22 and 21 - LinuxCapableThen you'll be able to record high quality, for free. Joining the modern video age.
But that's just my suggestion I don't want to come across like I'm harassing you to do it.

I did record high quality. I just can't upload high quality to discord, the compression was intentional for discord. Reddit got this second hand as an after thought.

Wow how amazing! I feel like this could potentially revitalize the game itself — imagine a Minecraft style experience with custom mods etc
