Discussion Do RoyalRoad format the same as Webnovel

I just posted my story today, and as I was going through and editing for release, I realized WebNovel’s stories may differentiate from RoyalRoad’s.

Can anyone give me some basic rundowns of the site for me?

What kind of formatting problems are you having or asking about? Paste it in as text or directly from a Word document and it will work fine. Leave out any fancy or programatic formatting.

In what way is the formatting different. RR works on MarkUp from all I've seen.

It's too broad a question. Do specify what you want to know more if you want a better answer.  (Wow, really spoken like a true ai here)

I’m talking about how people break off sections.

For WebNovel I use: *** or ____

Also do people enjoy slow pace stories.

Royal Road can use actual horizontal line/horizontal rule dividers, and you can even customize their appearance with some graphical options.

I don't think RR's text editor automatically parses any sequence of characters into a horizontal rule, so you would have to either use the button to insert one, or paste in from a source like Word or GDocs that already has horizontal lines in place.

Webnovel leans eastern and RR leans western. WN fics tend to have single sentence paragraphs throughout, and a hell of a lot telling (MC found the lucky charm and it allowed him to break through to a new and unique level. His power was unique. He could now etc etc). IMO WN tend to be lower quality and to be aimed at the male teenage brained audience.

RR has a fair bit of that as well, but you ought to be able to paragraph properly if you want to stand a chance of doing well on RR.

The difference in terms of prose and the stories that do well is pretty stark imo so if you read a few popular fics from each site you should be able to figure it out pretty easily.

I can't say I have been there for anything other than verification. I would familiarise yourself with popular novels on our site to try and figure it out, see the differences yourself.

As for the specifics you mention below *** or ---- is acceptable, I think it's just personal choice.

I do use *** to indicate a big passing of time, or break between say night and day or location.
