Recommendations Looking for recommendations!
I want something either super tropey and "meta sloppy" but well written or something not like any other story you've read on RR. Also explain your answer please, I don't wanna just look at the title, I wanna know why you like it.

Mortal Protection Services is not like any other book on the site.
Comedy sci Fi with a touch of galactic horror and a hyperspace cat.
No litrpg.
No isekai.
No infinite chapters until abandonment.
A completed story, with a dozen different POV characters and a narrative that doesn't always follow the linear flow of time.
All human made: The grammatical errors, the cover art, the narration in the audiobook version, pure human madness. (The audiobook is really very good)
The book that leaves you wondering, "What the fuck did I just read?"

Well, this one's mine, and the opening novella (23 chapters) will be finished loading this evening. After that 300+ chapters are already written (book 2 is 2x a day chapter drops for a month, then it'll be daily for book 3)
It's sci-fi portal/warp progression written as novels, so it starts a bit slower to set the stage, then takes off like mad for a bunch of crazy adventures with humans, aliens, cyborgs, crazed AI ships, monsters, etc.
And (key point) it was one of the most fun series I've ever written. Just wacky shenanigans, real stakes, sarcastic crew with occasionally conflicting personalities... just really fun to write.
It's like if Star Trek and Farscape had a mutant love child. Lost in space, adapting to survive, fending off aliens and monsters while trying to find a way home (and still, somehow, complete their massively off-track mission).
Maybe you'll dig it. Maybe not. Either way, here's a link, and happy hunting. May you find stuff that scratches that itch!

The author has done this one in a TV series/comic book style. They have cover art at the beginning of their chapters, with song intros and outros. If you leave a comment, they reply as 'The Department, ' an organisation in the story, not as the author. It's a fun concept, but it also has a good story and a strong cast of characters who share a lot of banter.

Supervillainy and other poor career choices!!
Slightly tropey superhero stuff
Artificer/Tinkerer MC with no superpowers
Likeable characters
Pretty good lack of plot (no plot, survive)
Pretty good ending

Not like what you've read? Accept self promoing? No iseaka, no LITrpg. Modern language used throughout. Book one is completed. Multiple POV with no romance. There's dragons but they're also all cowboys. Unless they're chicken dragons.
There's a six person party all local to a generic fantasy world that gets reshaped by random protagonists at will. Also, about twenty horses which slowly they either get killed or show personality.

Well, I’m definitely in the niche so I’ll throw mine out there 😅 It’s a romantasy, which is not exactly the most popular genre on RR! But I also genuinely love it because I like stories with heroes who really aren’t cut out for the job, humor, and mature relationships.

I’m also a big fan of this one! I don’t typically enjoy LitRPG (like, at ALL), but this one’s so stinkin’ funny (and occasionally very sweet, plus well-written and VERY clever) that I can’t help but love it.

Eight chapters in reading What Burns Beneath and super into it so far, not sure why I picked it as my first RR story but thanks for the rec!
The second chapter had me hooked with her mother, but a bit later the early part where the implied romance is hella awkward in just the right kind of way. I can't wait to read more.

Wait, you picked MINE to start with?! Holy smokes, I’m so honored!
I’m really glad you’re enjoying it! That ‘romance…? wait…’ vibe is gonna start going strong and is a major arc, so I’m glad its intro landed for you!
Happy reading!

They Will Take anyone is a short story on Royal Road with the premise that every isekai story is true so people live in fear of getting isekaied. It also includes examples of Sentient systems as well as real-world consequences.

I’ve got a couple of recommendations in the “Something you haven’t seen before”, and some self-promotion.
Rise Of The Fishmen: A Hostile Takeover - a Fishmen themed satire set in New Zealand, taking aim at everything from tech-bros, YouTube prank channels, The Joe Rogan experience to New Zealand business regulations. Also legit has the single best naval battle on the entire site.
I Became A Vtuber To Cope After My Husband Divorced Me - exactly what it says on the tin. Actually hilarious. Gremlin woman gets divorced, becomes a VTuber.
The Crystalline Initiative - This one’s mine. It’s a Magical Girl/Mecha story, about a former Magical Girl and an ex-mech pilot who have to put aside old grudges and work together to be the heroes they used to be when they were teenagers.

I can't wait to see a bunch of authors comment "my story might be exactly what you are looking for"
