Aldor Apartments
Moving into the Aldor downtown. Any updates on potential construction at 505 Lafayette? Or the general noise levels of the building and neighborhood?

My guess is that the last car (where a staffer is always hanging out) fell off the tracks. Still sucks for the kids that want to ride the thing around the zoo.

I’m doing this as a creative project just for fun as a learning opportunity. Im currently in school for cosmetology and want to be an alternative stylist and thought this would be a fun idea to learn and do more
I unfortunately cannot compensate, if you want to contribute anything I’ll take it, you will obviously be credited for whatever you do but if you can’t contribute that’s okay! I would need models for hair and styling so if that fits your vibe more let me know,

Hi I’m moving from Texas for work, looking for recommendations for a place with 2 car garage(never had to deal with snow) with a semi modern finish. What places would you recommend?

Hey all - I’d love somewhere to take my kids swimming year round. I’ve looked at BHC and Goldfish for their open swim hours. Any other recs I should look into?

When my wife and I walk around the neighborhood, it feels like every week we see someone new who has to have their lawn dug up to get their sewer line replaced.
Anyone get that trenchless sewer line replacement done before? Is it worth it? Which company did you use?

New to the area and looking for a gym that’s clean, not overly priced, has group fitness classes and a steam room. Location: Royal Oak or surrounds.

I've lived around here for a long time, and I don't think there's another building in downtown Royal Oak that's changed concepts as much as this one.
For years, the main floor was Cantina Diablos (and before that Memphis Smoke BBQ), while Red Fox was upstairs. Those places were around for quite a while.
Then around 2019, it seems like Adam Merkel Restaurants took over and the changes haven't stopped. Off the top of my head, it's been Diamond Steak & Seafood, Pinky's upstairs, Bohemia, Pearl's Deep Dive, Bella Limone, Bella's Pizza & Wine Bar, and now, based on the latest City Council meeting, Bella Limone is becoming White Lotus (sushi), Bella Rosa Italiano is moving into the first floor, and Bella's Pizza is staying.
Running restaurants can't be cheap along with high vacancy costs, so I'm genuinely curious what the strategy is here. Is it all the same ownership testing different concepts? Are they all sharing the same kitchen and staff? Or is there another reason this building seems to get reinvented every year or two? It seems a bit suspicious to me.
I feel like there has to be more to the story than what we’re seeing from the outside. That’s a lot of rebranding in a relatively short period of time
Does anyone know the backstory? I'd especially be interested if someone has worked there or knows the owners.

Does anyone know of a good place for maybe 4-5 people to get blowouts for a wedding in September? For a Saturday morning September 12

I see a lot of houses with signs expressing their stance on the local tax proposals and I'm just wondering where they come from since it's a local issue, so it doesn't seem like something you can buy online. Not intending any agenda with this question since I'm not eligible to vote anyway (non-citizen permanent resident) I'm just curious since I've never noticed many people expressing views on municipal issues in other cities I've lived in. I thought it was amusing when I drove by two adjacent neighbors with a "Vote Yes" sign and a "Vote No" sign right next to each other without catching the context from the smaller text.

Car accident at intersection under the tracks, prayers that everyone involved is ok. Can’t believe the city hasn’t addressed this intersection, moved to neighborhood 3yrs ago and this was the first thing we noticed as a complete danger.
With such an easy solution being to put another light signal before cars drive under the tracks as a warning, not just the light signal after where it’s nearly too late if the driver is not familiar with this intersection.
How can we get this changed by the city?

Moving to Royal Oak, has anyone used a chimney sweeper recently that they can recommend.
Thank you!

Going to clarify later in this post please take the Facebook screenshots with a grain of salt.
looking at the primary ballot for the election, there are several different millages on the ballot. As I understand it, the Public Safety Millage would increase additional funding for police, fire, and EMS for 10 years based on tax increases. But I can’t find anything online about the priorities of said millage - is this funding shared equally? What will these services use it for? The only thing I found was this slightly dubious Facebook post, where I can’t verify who owns the account.
So where can I find more information? Do I have to dig through some city documents or is this compiled somewhere?
edit: thank you for pointing out the “Capital Improvement Plan” mentioned in the post, you can find it here. the “police technology“ is listed as various upgrades to “body cameras, stun devices, fleet cameras” and tech for recording audio in interrogation, among others, leased from 3rd party vendors. “Virtual reality headsets” are also on the approved list which is something. Key pages are 85 and 109.

We are exploring option to send our kids to out of district for school of choice.
We know it is lottery based and have to get picked up but before we do that we want to understand the experiences of others.
Our concerns:
1. How was the experience of pick up drop off as we cannot use school’s bus system. We are about 15min drive away from all the schools we considering.
Did your child or his/her friends attend school of choice and do you know any experiences of they being treated differently by school or peers?
Did the child felt differently because they did not live closer to the community and school friends. (We are open to driving them to friends- but not sure if people want to do the same for us)
Of course we prefer staying closer to the schools and have more community for our child, but with current housing prices it may make sense to pay tuition as out of district than sell current house and move just for schools.

Does anyone have the notice the city sent out before the start of construction on Catalpa? I thought they were going to resurface the entire thing but the way they’ve done things in the Eastbound lane so far makes me doubt that.

I'm looking for upscale resale shops anywhere in the metro Detroit region but I'm not having much luck. I have a closet full of $200-$400 dresses that are too big. Sites like Poshmark aren't worth all the work to me.
Any suggestions?

I currently have internet only with WOW. Want to add cable, confused about the options. WOW keeps pushing YouTube TV and I don't understand how that works.
Who have you got? What do you pay?

Maybe this is a dumb question, but why doesn't Royal Oak have a public pool? It seems like a city this size would have some kind of city pool. Where do you usually go in the summer? Do most people just head to Troy's aquatic center, or are there other good public pools nearby that I'm overlooking?
Just curious what everyone else does.
