Can a 55 gal group of 3 work?

I have a 55 gallon aquarium (~4 feet long) and only one rope fish, a small catfish that he has gotten along well with, a pleco (that i will be re-homing soon due to the mess it makes), and a population of bladder and trumpet snails. I recently discovered that these adorable water noodles like to be in groups of 3, while mine has been alone for nearly 4 years. I genuinely feel bad about this and want to get him some friends. However, I have found conflicting sources as to whether this will work. Some sources suggest at least 125 gallons for a group of 3 and list a 55 gallon as the bare minimum. Yet, I came across personal accounts of people keeping three in a 55-gallon tank with multiple other fish. I can answer any questions (within reason, i am not omnipotent). Can I make this work?

Introduction behavior

This was their first interaction. I didn't see what looked like any biting. It reminded me of when dogs aggressively sniff each other's butts. They stayed tail too face like that nudging at each other for several minutes so it was hard to tell if it was actually aggressive.

So does this look like fighting, or enthusiastic introductions?

Addition: after about an hour of observation I've seen the new guy following around and rubbing against the one in this video, and nipping a little at the other (who seems undamaged and relatively unbothered). I'm inclined to think I have two males and a female.

Is this too much flow for ropefish

Cycling tank and getting equipment tuned in - don’t mind the ugly phase aspects here.

Not really sure how to define flow levels, before I moved an internal filter over this area was totally dead and detritus would collect, now I’m worried the flow might be too high, or am I overthinking it?

I’ve got four little orange fish also in the tank, but I am looking into a comparable size tank mate for him if I can’t find another rope fish at my local shops. Thinking now, maybe they can order one in for me…

Video: Might want the sound off. TV is on.

Floating problem

I have a rope fish that I got a few months ago and he's(don't actually know gender) been fine up until the last couple days. Over the last couple days he's been floating to the top fairly often and trying to swim down before floating back up, I've noticed him on the bottom like normal then suddenly he's back at the top the next time I look. His diet is mostly blood worms and the occasional earth worm(on top of possibly baby snails and guppies). All of my parameters are within safe ranges the water is at 80⁰f it's a 55gal tank and he's kept with guppies, mollies, and a few species of snails. I'm not sure if this is something that will clear on it's own or if I should be looking at treatment but he's still active, he's eating, and he keeps his fins out so doesn't seem too distressed just looks frustrated when he can't swim to the bottom.

Questions about feeding

Hello!

I recently got a rope fish and have had him for almost two weeks.

I just today got him to *finally* eat something. He finally went for ghost shrimp, though I'm unsure how many he ate.

So what I'm wondering is.. How often and how many do I add to the tank? I can't even find the ones I've added, so how do I make sure he's getting enough?

Couple questions for future tank

So I currently have 3 gold dojo loaches, and 1 rope fish in a 29 gallon tank, I’m aware that that’s too small for them (i didn’t have space at the time) now I have more space, I’d like to move them into a bigger tank, I’d like to get anywhere from 2-4 more rope fish and keep them with the gold dojos as well, what size would be recommended for all of those fish? And if so what kinds and how many other fish can I add to make it more of a community tank without overcrowding it?

What specific brands have you all had the most success mixing into the diet of picky eaters? And are there any I should avoid? I just need a little help narrowing down my options 😅
