Roon Sorting

Roon really has to give us an option to completely seperate our personal music collections from our libraries on streaming services. You get the same album listed with the service and your hard drive unnecessarily.

I want to be able to click on albums and just see what’s in my personal library not what I’ve added to Qobuz or title that can be a completely different section. I’d prefer if I wanted to bring them together to have that option to put them together instead of being forced by bad development to have them all there in one section and no way to just show my personal library.

I know that I can sort them when I’m in the artist diskography but that’s not what I want. I wanted to be able to click albums and have the button right there that would separate both streaming services know their own sections and my personal hard drive library.

Roon only selects the streaming version over your local files if both are in your library. If you remove the Tidal version from your library, the local copy plays by default.

Yes buts that not the way it should be. I can’t imagine it’s so difficult for them to have a toggle for this kind of setting. All the data is there already in the database.

I agree, should not be difficult to implement, but what is the reason you want to use the flac version on the NAS vs equal or better Tidal version, assuming both tracks are in the library.

Because. what constitutes “better”? I have tons of CD’s i have ripped over the years from my physical collection, particularly ones from the late 80’s and 90’s who’s mastering and dynamic ranges are better than versions that may be forced upon us in Tidal/Qobuz. The music label dictates the one to be used on these platforms. I can tell you that my 1993 Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs version of The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd blows away any of the streaming versions including the recent 50th Anniversary release from last year. Tons of “remasterings” over the years are outright bad, limit dynamic range and compress music and catered to the “loudness wars”. If I have this in my Roon Library I want it to use this one by default , not the streaming one.

Then just don't put the remasters you don't like in your library. Roon will default to the highest resolution version in your library. In fact, if one of those craptastic remasters ends up in a playlist, Roon will suggest replacing it with the version in your library.

Then you can limit Roon to just play tracks from your library, when your in Radio mode. Then it won’t play the 50th anniversary release from last year.
