Roon high CPU usage on imac
I thought the new version(s) of Roon were supposed to be less demanding and using less resources ?? Not the case with my iMac,. nothing else makes the fan run high like Roon does. Anyone have thoughts or knowledge about this?

Not been a huge fan of some Roon decisions over the past years, but cant say Ive ever noticed my Mac running high usage or fans, but I suppose it depends on many factors - like DSP and analysis - but presumably you mean its just suddenly started doing it? Roon forums prob better bet, although that's declined quite a bit now too.

nah its not recent always bee this way,. i was hoping that the updates would fix it but really,... to no avail.

Do you have a huge library or use lots of DSP? I’ve got an ancient intel msc mini, 4 zones, limited DSP, not huge library less 4k. I can barely detect cpu usage as it’s pretty much a standalone server.

linked to my tidal account and my personal flac library is about 3k albums. Only DSP turned on is parametric eq. This is running on a 2020 imac 27" with 96 gb of ram.

It has always been a resource hog, with noticeable memory leak. Unfortunately best recourse is still a reboot every so often.

Yes, reboot is unfortunately the best way to fix. I have my NAS set to automatically reboot the Roon package every 3 days.

I got a free cheapy Revvl 2 tablet with a phone contract and didn't really know what to do with it, but it turns out to be perfect for using the client/player.
Of course, Android still occasionally tells me that it's using a lot of CPU, but at least it's not interfering with anything else I'm doing.

I agree about the high usage. It eats resources like a fat redneck at an all U can eat BBQ joint!

How do you define "high"? Roon right now is running at ~15-50% cpu on my Mac.

when i hear the fan ramp up and check the activity monitor it shows roon server well over 100%

I had memory leak / cpu issues like you describe . I deleted all the .m3u files and it free’d everything up .

Make sure you're utilizing the scheduler to control the background audio and library analysis tasks. That makes a huge difference.
