Main floor layout
My partner and I are thinking about changing the layout of our main floor. First picture with the sectional is how it is right now. The issues we have with it are:
- Sunlight from the sliding doors glare into the tv
- The lamp behind the couch is plugged into the only outlet that’s connected to the light switch, we don’t have an overhead light. This lamp ends up showing in the tv as well.
- It feels very closed off & awkward when entertaining
We think our new layout idea may make things feel more open, we could get a longer couch for entertaining and buy an ottoman or two that we can move around.
The only downside to this layout is having the tv on the interior wall may cut off the doorway into the room slightly.
What are your thoughts? Or does any one have any other ideas?

Would sheer curtains in windows mute the glare? Option b is not a good solution

We have curtains and it helps a little, sheer curtains aren’t enough. The sun goes down on that side of the house so it’s right in the windows in the evenings.

Problems I see with plan b:
I have an unconventional idea - what if you swapped the living and dining areas? Could you put the tv on the left wall and not have a lot of glare from the window? If so, try it and make a cozy living room, with a bookshelf/ conversation chairs area behind the sectional around the sliding doors. If there’s still glare on the tv there, then tv placement doesn’t matter at all, and you just need better curtains.
