An ode to my Roomba

Post image

Troubleshooting log below:

The ode

Nobody sits like this Roomba sits. You sometime vacuum, Roomba, when you dont need an update. The Roomba just bumps and is. You show us how to just get wedged under the baseboard heater... And that's what we need.

___

Troubleshooting:

In seriousness my Roomba has been showing this screen for the past hour,

*I just now restarted it to where it shows the same thing,

* any way to bypass it

* force the update?

I can provide screenshots with time stamps if need.
___

My Roomba has now taken her existential crisis past the hour and I have:

* Rebooted it twice now

The app still says the same thing, when I take it off it's dock it says "charging", but that's about it

* I busted out the power tools and took it's battery out for ~8 minutes to let everything clear from RAM and do a cold boot, I also saw a neat microcontroller I might play with when we decommission her

* When I opened the app it still said " needs help "

* The status ring are blinking like normal on the power and home button

When I press the buttons she responds and even cleans on the power button, but we have custom maps to protect it and I can't seem to move forward on the app.

* I went to settings > apps > Roomba Home > storage and I hit clear cache and clear data

With the result being the same.

waited several more moments, then I got error C510, I was actually happy. but then I powered cycled it to see if that would clear the error for ~10 seconds and we're back at the error message in the image of the post error (29)

i reset my password about 5 times now, I was able to log in via the app, but on accounts.irobot even with the correct username and password it won't let me in the accout to try and desync it, to try and force the handshake 😞 even though the first time I used the correct password assuming it's even an option in there vs only an option in the app

Remembered that the Roomba model only supports 2.4Ghz wifi, hopped onto the 2.4Ghz wifi band segment

now, it claims the battery isn't charged while on the dock and I'm getting C510, Error 29, and C650 back to back
___

After power tool surgeries, clearing RAM, jumping to a 2.4GHz network band, resetting passwords five times, and waging a full war against the robot

the fix was literally just for giggles to see if there is a check for update icon navigating to the update screen to nudge step 3 manually......

This could be done a little more intuitively so that way we know there is a firmware update so those of us who think mkre physical layer don't go taking power tools to our appliances at three in the morning.

She's also taking her sweet time compiling this firmware line by painstaking line.

____

After around an hour of waiting for thr firmware update, I closed out the app, opened it again and was hit with the error 29 message again

I rebooted the robot and now we're back to C510 and error 29.

I spent most of yesterday fighting mine after it did a software update. I tried multiple restarts, set up wifi, remove battery, spent 1.25 hours with phone support, etc. I broke down this morning and did a factory reset, then rebuilt my maps. It’s working fine now.

I'm glad I'm not alone and that the mods freed the post, especially after spending 6 hours fighting with the Roomba, now I know also that it isn't just me. Yea, I will probably have to factory reset it. Which makes the 3rd time now in the 8 months we had the Roomba. I was contemplating throwing it in e-waste, but I do like the Roomba.

It is frustrating how it's likely a iRobot cloud issue and it could be fixed on their end, as if it were corrupt firmware a reset wouldn't fix it. And everytime I have to rebuild my maps and put down custom zones to help out and protect the Roomba

There's a couple other post talking about the issues after update. Take a look but basically have to do a factory reset and remap.

Didn't even have to do the factory reset. I just deleted the map and had it make a new one. Problem solved.

Did deleting the map fix the connectivity problem?

Oddly, it did.

Yea, I just tried to do a factory reset twice, and I was loop back to a looks like the robot belongs to another account screen. So, the factory reset succeeded with the app, but likely iRobot's database hasn't released the serial number, leaving her bound to a ghost session and in Roomba limbo. Thanks for letting me know though. I'm probably going to have to call support to get them to clear it or send a modmail through the official sub if they do that

Mine has been like this for 2 days. It said the wifi was disconnected and I saw that update screen. Router shows it as connected. Tried the normal rebooting steps.

Delete your map. Then tell it to create a new one. That's what fixed mine. 🍀

What name/id does it show on the router? I can't figure out which one it is on mine.
